Chapter 2004: 24.265 Sixth Violet Star - Before Sunset
With the temporary merging of the groups from the elven and dwarf races, before the sun completely sets, they decided to take a short rest in some hidden area within the ruined city. Elf Vera sat with the group of dwarfs while his team were mostly hidden watching the area just in case the human found them.
Dwarf king Garan looked at Elf Vera as if observing him and couldn’t help but asked, "Lord Vera, are your people not going to show themselves?"
"I think it’s better if they don’t. Your people won’t be able to hold themselves back." Elf Vera said as he drank a green tea that was hanging in her waist after reheating it over the fire.
The dwarfs in the area upon hearing the words of Elf Vera couldn’t control themselves to glare at his direction. The loyalist of the Dwarf King tried to warn them but the hatred in the hearts of these dwarves was amplified by the fact that their race was destroyed. They now hate both the elven and human races.
Dwarf King Garan speaks, "Is the Lord coming over to meet your king?"
"Of course! The old place is already not willing to accept us. The elder elves still wanted to try curing the current Elf King." Elf Vera said. "But such a thing is a dream that cannot be achieved. I checked on him before leaving. His soul is almost used up. It was unknown how the enemy had controlled his mind."
The King of Dwarf Garan who had witnessed himself how the Elf King Valerian had fallen in such a state. That mutated beast... No, that is already a monster of the unknown emitting an evil aura that can be hardly ignored. Just being stared at by that monster gives him a feeling of death.
"I... I’ve seen it. The thing that turned Valerian in such a state. It was something that can no longer be called a beast. It’s like a monster with an incomplete and grotesque shape. He used just one tentacle to touch Valerian’s forehead and injected something in him!"
"Whatever the thing that was injected in his head is what turns him into a crazy thing. A mad being that was completely under their control. No matter how many times I tried to remember... That isn’t something a human can do. It’s a monster that wears the face of the human marshal, Gu Ying."
Dwarf King Garan was filled with fear as he recalled what happened during the last ruler meeting where he almost died. Elf Vera upon seeing the vivid fear on the face of the king of dwarfs made him realize that their enemy might be a being beyond their means. Something that shouldn’t have existed in this world.
Elf Vera said, "You mean something unknown is possessing the human marshal?"
"Yes! That aloof and indifference stare as if looking at you as lowly as an ant. Eyes devoid of all kinds of emotions, it was something that cannot be found in a human!" Dwarf King Garan said.
One of the loyalists of the Dwarf King approached him and whispered something that woke Garan to reality. As the king of his race, he shouldn’t have shown such a broken side of his. This would just give more fear to his people making them lose their mind and hope of survival.
Dwarf King Garan said, "Pardon me for making a joke of myself. I hope Lord Vera doesn’t mind."
"It’s alright. This is something everyone must learn. As our enemy, if the Human Marshal is no longer the original one or he has been replaced by something else, then what you said can be considered proof of his change," Elf Vera said. "There is one question that runs in my mind though. If he is no longer a human, how come no one else from the military noticed it. Did the humans all turn blind or... Most of them were already under the control of the monster in the Marshal’s body."
"If this is the case, then the possibility of the humans being used as cannon fodder is something they will never avoid." Elf Vera said. "Then most of those from the upper echelon of the military might have fallen under his control as well."
"Controlling the Elf King to cause the fragmentation of the alliance. Taking over the human race. The extermination of the dwarf race. After this, they would most likely try to eliminate the Elven race as well. They might also be preventing people from spreading the news to the borderlands. This is to avoid the rulers of the beastmen race from returning here."
"If that’s so then... they might also be planning to launch an attack on the beastmen race as well." Elf Vera said. "For that they might need to find a reason first. A reason that would make the humans attack the beastmen race’s territory like how they had done with the elves and dwarves."
Dwarf King Garan said, "The question is what would trigger the humans to see the beastmen as their enemy."
Everyone fell into deep thoughts. Among them Elf Vera and Dwarf King Garan were the ones trying to find the possibilities that will cause a trigger between the human and the beastmen race. All of the sudden, Elf Vera’s eyes wander in the area looking at the dwarfs and finally at his people. As if he had realized something, a deep frown paired with a gloomy look appeared on Elf Vera’s face.
Dwarf King Garan noticed this huge change in this elf warrior’s expression and demeanor.
He asked, "What’s wrong? Did you guess something?"
"Yes... There is only one way for the beastmen to get involved and be seen by the human race as another enemy. These things had something to do with us and our group." Elf Vera said.
"What do you mean? Please elaborate," said the king of dwarf, Garan.
"In the eyes of the human race, both the elven and the dwarven races were enemies who had caused the destruction of the alliance city. Caused the death of multiple humans in the process. This is especially true when the craze elf king had ravaged the area that day."
"The military only need to see our group entering the ancient forest and they can use us to entice the human race that our three races were planning on exterminating their race."
"Humans must be waiting for us to appear near the ancient forest. Once they capture the scene of our group entering the forest, they will have reason to spread within their race that the elves, dwarfs and beastmen were collaborating on how to destroy the human race." Elf Vera speculated.
The King of Dwarf, Garan said, "That would be enough reason for them to launch an attack on the Ancient Forest. This human marshal is much more sinister than I expected! Since it is like this, we must find a way to approach the ancient forest without letting the humans know. We cannot let them attack the Ancient Forest! Or we wouldn’t be able to face the rulers of the beastmen race once they returned from the borders."
"Actually, all messengers from the borders might be killed by the humans as well. It is almost impossible for the people at the borders not to reach out to the city especially when the beast waves still haven’t ended yet." Elf Vera said. "No matter what... It seems that we cannot appear near the ancient forest together."
"You mean some humans are waiting for us to approach the ancient forest?" Dwarf King Garan asked.
Elf Vera responded, "This possibility is huge. It is something that will truly happen. Us elves can use invisibility for a moment. Individuality, it can last for a few minutes. But to use it in a group it would only last for a few seconds."
"Don’t worry. We have no plans on moving through the surface as we go nearer the ancient forest. We will move through undergroud." King of Dwarf Garan said.
Elf Vera said, "That is a good plan. The only problem is whether the beastmen race will accept our group."
"No need to worry. The former elf king is your superior. He will definitely not ignore you and your race. Moreover with former elf king Vega on their side, you should be able to enter the ancient forest." Dwarf King Garan said.
Shaking his head, Elf Vera said, "It depends on the situation. I do not think that humans will easily give up on us."
The elf warrior suddenly asked, "How did the humans find your kingdom? Isn’t it supposed to be located deep underground?"
The dwarfs also looked confused. After all, the sudden arrival of the military from the human race was abrupt and something they didn’t expect. However, the fact that they had found the entrance meant that the human had already guessed that the dwarf race lives underground.
Dwarf King Garan said, "We also don’t know. They had just appeared one day and attacked our kingdom. Aren’t the rumors that the new human marshal isn’t human or possessed by something? Maybe it was he who had found out that the dwarf race lives underground."
"That is also possible. Then our plans to approach the ancient forest must be something he will never expect. The problem is how to do it?" Elf Vera mumbles as he falls deep in his thoughts, trying to find their path of survival for this situation.
