Chapter 4219: Lured Over

Chapter 4219: Lured Over

Astral Anura glanced at Greater Sancte Green Lotus. Why does that sound like something Seventh Bro would say? Everyone’s getting led astray by him.

As for luring the technological civilization to the seven-colored land, Lu Yin discussed his concerns with Greater Sancte Green Lotus and the others, though naturally not in front of the Seven-Treasure Anuras.

There were pros and cons to such a move, and no one could easily make a decision on it.

Ultimately, it all hinged on a single sentence.

“The technological civilization knows that we have human forms. Do you think that Obscura doesn’t? We disguised ourselves as members of Obscura when rescuing the Seven-Treasure Anuras. If the Blacklight Civilization ever encounters someone from Obscura in the future, they can also learn of our existence from them. The red coffin is quite conspicuous.

“The human form doesn’t necessarily implicate our human civilization—it could also indicate Obscura. Obscura has a far better understanding of our civilization than that technological civilization. To that technological civilization, the human form alone proves nothing.”

That comment from Greater Sancte Green Lotus dispelled the others’ doubts. They were always going to pin the blame on Obscura, and Obscura could easily inform the Blacklight Civilization that the human civilization was the one that had taken action. Either way, humanity would not be able to escape the consequences.

They had originally decided to frame Obscura as the culprit because Obscura was not an easy target to retaliate against. However, there was nothing preventing Obscura from telling the Blacklight Civilization the truth. After all, Obscura was not a united civilization.

As for luring the technological civilization across the Aevum Inch, the first thing to consider was not even the human civilization, but rather Obscura. According to Ancestor Shan’s words, the nearby region of the Aevum Inch was considered Obscura’s ecosystem; Obscura was the shield of their region.

There was one benefit to drawing the technological civilization over that Lu Yin and the others could not refute: doing so would allow them to more clearly understand the technological civilization. If they could confirm that the technological civilization was not a match for humanity, then striking first would grant their human civilization a way out. They would have to face the technological civilization sooner or later, and using the Blacklight Civilization as a testing ground was not a bad idea.

How could one reap benefits without taking risks? Some risks had to be taken.

Lu Yin only spent a short time exchanging a few brief greetings before taking Old First and the other toads through the Gate of Laws to a distant region of the Aevum Inch.

Master Ku Deng froze. It would have been one thing for Lu Yin to suddenly appear, but why had a bunch of toads arrived with him?

Old First and the other Seven-Treasure Anuras were similarly stunned by the sight of Ku Deng. Another Immortal? Just how many Immortals did this human civilization have? Was it already a fishing civilization?

Lu Yin greeted Ku Deng and then vanished.

He returned to the location where he had previously encountered the technological civilization. This place was actually quite dangerous. To join Obscura, Lu Yin had been tasked with destroying the Thorn Civilization, and to do so, he had placed a gate at the same location. After all this time, the technological civilization must have tightly locked the area down. Lu Yin was not even sure if the gate was still there.

He teleported over, and a gate stood before him. The connection to the Thorn Megaverse was still in place. Ovoid lights floated around the gate, some large and others small. These were the ship-like constructs of the technological civilization, and they were capable of unleashing terrifying attacks.

Lu Yin did not even know what had happened at the Thorn Megaverse, other than the fact that Kuang had failed to complete their mission. An Immortal-level battle must have played out, likely involving more than one or two Immortals. Since the technological civilization had ended up the ultimate victor, their combat power was easy to imagine.

Lu Yin and the others were detected the moment they appeared, and enormous needle-like projectiles appeared from every direction.

They were not unfamiliar to him. The first time Lu Yin and Greater Sancte Green Lotus encountered the technological civilization, they had also been targeted by this kind of attack. The attack had not been too threatening, but that had also only been one needle. This time, there were hundreds, and they approached from all directions.

Old Fifth glance around at them. “I’ll clear these out.”

Lu Yin stopped the toad. “Don’t bother. We’re not here to start a war.”

With that, he left a gate behind and fled.

Where he had just stood, the needle-like weapons pierced the void.

Far away, a voice rang out within one of the massive oval lights. “Beep! Unknown creature has vanished. Beep! Unknown creature has vanished.”

“Activate absolute analysis.”

“That’s not necessary. The absolute analysis can’t see through an Immortal’s movements. Zoom in on what was left behind.”

“Is that... a gate?”

“It’s another gate. Last time, the gate led to a different megaverse—no, a megaverse where two cosmic civilizations were at war. The empire suffered great losses due to that incident. If the Third Fleet’s mainship hadn’t arrived in time as reinforcements, we would have lost that battle. Now, there’s another gate before us. Send a report to the empire immediately.”

“Beep! Report sent successfully.”

“There must be another civilization behind this gate as well. They want to use us, to cause a civilizational war that eradicates that civilization.”

“What do we do? Ignore it? These gates are very durable. The empire has been analyzing it, but we can’t destroy it.”

“Wait for the empire’s response. Whether we use it or not, if there truly is a megaverse behind that gate, it will bring new resources to the empire. As for the creatures that are trying to use us, we’ll catch them sooner or later. The empire is already developing a new weapon, one that will prevent them from escaping.”

Lu Yin was very curious about the detection range of the technological civilization, but this was not the time to test that. He could not afford to make them wary, lest he delay their arrival at the seven-colored land.

He preferred to go and observe the seven-colored land.

He teleported across the Aevum Inch, quickly taking Mister Mu, Old First, and the others back to the seven-colored land.

Finally, they arrived back outside the Seven-Treasure Anuras’ homeland.

Not for the first time, Old First and the others marveled at the convenience of teleportation.

Lu Yin was also grateful that they had attempted to obtain teleportation. How could such an innate gift normally appear in humans? It had never happened before. But through multiple coincidences, it had ultimately been cultivated into existence, becoming an absolute means for Lu Yin, and possibly one day, an absolute means for their entire human civilization.

It was an ability that only a fishing civilization could hope to possess.

If the Seven-Treasure Anuras had possessed the ability to teleport, they would have become a fishing civilization long ago. Why would they have feared a mere Blacklight Civilization?

Within the Seven-Treasure Anuras’ homeland, the Blacklight Civilization had not discovered Obscura’s gate yet. Lu Yin had hidden it within one of the fractured mountain peaks in an utterly inconspicuous location. Obscura’s gates did not produce any sort of grand phenomenon that announced how extraordinary they were with just a glance.

In fact, it was the opposite. Obscura’s gates were extremely discrete and easy to hide. If not, it would be impossible to use them discretely.

Only if one actually stared at a gate would they feel the sorrow that the gates induced, or the extraordinariness that each gate possessed.

However, without seeing the gate, who would care about a broken mountain peak or an unremarkable gate?

Lu Yin and the others watched the seven-colored land from far away. He had left a pathfinding stone that carried his consciousness behind, allowing him to see its surroundings. Unfortunately, that consciousness was sensed by a Blacklight creature, who crushed the pathfinding stone with a foot, leaving Lu Yin unable to see anything clearly.

Lu Yin’s vision from a distance could not compare to Old First’s.

The toad did not dare to use Astral Anura’s Eye. He could only watch from a distance, barely able to make anything out.

If Old First was able to see into the seven-colored land, Huo could also see the toads and humans, which was why he was being extremely cautious.

Time flowed on, and half a year passed in the blink of an eye.

Old Fourth started to grow anxious. “That technological civilization isn’t going to refuse to come, is it?”

“Impossible. No civilization can refuse exploration, especially not a fishing civilization. As long as that technological civilization is actually a fishing civilization, they will definitely come,” Old First stated with conviction, more confident than anyone else present.

Mister Mu mused, “It’s possible that what they experienced with the Thorn Megaverse made them cautious. This time, they’ll only come after fully preparing themselves.”

“The Thorn Megaverse?” Old Fifth asked curiously.

Lu Yin nodded and then explained how he had once manipulated the technological civilization into destroying the Thorn Megaverse, bluntly stating that he had done so as part of his test to join Obscura.

Old First and the others had no particular thoughts after hearing the story. The destruction of the Thorn Megaverse had nothing to do with the Seven-Treasure Anuras. All they cared about was how much longer it would be before the technological civilization arrived.

This was the nature of the Aevum Inch. No species would feel even the slightest bit of sympathy for an unrelated civilization that had already been destroyed.

It was not being numb, but rather that such emotions were simply unnecessary.

Civilizations were as numerous as the stars in the Aevum Inch. At every moment, civilizations were being destroyed. No one had that much sympathy to spare.

Also, the very fact they were able to hear about a civilization’s destruction indicated that they also possessed the power to destroy other civilizations and might have even done so. If not, they would not be qualified to hear about such things, or even the term “Aevum Inch.”

For any powerful creature that roamed the Aevum Inch, which one had a civilization behind them that had not destroyed other civilizations?

Such things were as natural as a creature seeking food.

“It looks like we’ll have to keep waiting. It won’t happen soon,” Old First said.

Lu Yin’s eyes flickered. “Not necessarily. The gate to the Thorn Megaverse is still intact. After that incident, the technological civilization would have prepared in advance. What they’re waiting for now isn’t reinforcements from their own civilization, but for those preparations to be fully set in place.”

Old Fifth’s eyes went blank. “As smart as I am, I still don’t understand anything you’re saying.”

Old Fourth remained calm. Even if you don’t understand, there’s no need to say it.

“There’s movement,” Mister Mu warned.

Everyone looked over.

The seven-colored land flared with light. After that, the void shattered. Fighting broke out quickly and suddenly, catching the Blacklight Civilization completely off guard.

The technological civilization’s means of fighting was dazzling, to the point where Lu Yin and the others were unable to see anything clearly.

When two civilizations met, each would want to suppress the other. Everyone wanted to destroy everyone else.

In the distant universe, lives were ended, and lights grew dim. But more lights joined the battle. The Blacklight Civilization was not the Thorn Megaverse. In fact, the two were incomparable to each other. This time, the technological civilization had kicked a steel plate. Even when one of their massive ovoid lights appeared and unleashed an attack that Lu Yin and the others could not make sense of, other than the fact that it was powerful enough to threaten an Immortal, the light was still eventually torn to bits by Huo.

War erupted quickly, and it also ended quickly.

Old First’s expression was grim. “That technological civilization underestimated their opponent.”

“Is it possible that this is the extent of the technological civilization’s strength?” Old Fifth asked.

Old First looked over at Lu Yin.

The young human’s expression was heavy. “No matter what, give the technological civilization one more chance. I’ll retrieve the gate first, or else the Blacklight creatures will destroy it.”

He then vanished, appearing on the mountain peak in the seven-colored land.

Both Huo and Duan were near that mountain, their enormous eyes peering into the wreckage with suspicion and wariness.

This was where the technological civilization had just emerged. The instant they had appeared, they attacked without hesitation, slaughtering vast numbers of Blacklight creatures, and even unleashing a strike that left Huo uneasy. It did not understand the nature of that attack, only that it tore things apart, utterly and completely.

Huo had recognized their attacker as a technological civilization.

So there really are technological fishing civilizations. Even the idea of such a civilization was terrifying. Who knew what sort of weapons they might have developed? Once a weapon was capable of unleashing the power of an Immortal, then as long as sufficient resources were available, the weapon could be used to attack endlessly. This was not something that any cultivation civilization could match.

Technological civilizations had no karmic chains. That was what made them so frightening.

Huo had expected the next creatures to arrive to be the fishing civilization with the absolute means of teleportation. It had even already prepared itself to die in that battle. The sudden arrival of a technological civilization was completely unexpected. They had also arrived so fast and so suddenly.
