Chapter 4370: The Bird King
The numbers increased even further as the other megaverses dispatched 10 million people.
After gathering everyone together, Lu Yin took them to the outside of Manifest City, and then they all went in.
No matter what, he had to try.
What did it mean for tens of millions of people to enter Manifest City at once? The city instantly boiled over.
This was different from when Che had captured an entire civilization and thrown all of the creatures into Manifest City. For example, the Golem Civilization had been completely unprepared. Later, even when they initiated their Thousand-Form Night March, it had only happened long after they entered Manifest City. By that time, many of their kind had already died, rendering a unified command impossible.
Besides, saying that an entire civilization had been sent into Manifest City was really just a concept. The numbers could not possibly have been an entire civilization, as Manifest City would have been stuffed full long ago if that were the case. At most, a million creatures from the Golem Civilization had been sent in.
Before anyone entered the city, Lu Yin reminded them that, as long as there was no threat to their lives, they were not to expose themselves for the time being. He wanted to find the right opportunity.
Most people would not face lethal danger at the beginning, but even if only a small portion did, with tens of millions of people entering at once, that “small portion” was still a large number.
For instance, some people transformed into fish, and by sheer bad luck, were caught by a fisherman and soon tossed into a pot.
Some people turned into crickets and would have to fight another cricket, only to lose.
Some people turned into firewood that was about to be burned. There were more and more such examples.
In fact, there were far, far too many situations. The transformed people who were in danger started to move, and even if only tens of thousands of them were in danger, their actions were still enough to make Manifest City boil over.
Lu Yin, transformed into a bird, was able to see everything clearly. Seeing what was happening, he did not wait and immediately sent the signal.
There was a signal that everyone entering the city had agreed upon, and as soon as they received that signal, everyone was to act.
This signal was also the same one that Lu Yin agreed upon with the Immortal golem.
What followed was a scene rarely witnessed in Manifest City throughout multiple ages: a riot erupted.
Chickens, ducks, fish, meat, tables, chairs, benches, and absolutely everything else imaginable started to riot. It was as everything had gained sapience, and they all marched towards the main streets.
The people of Manifest City were dumbfounded, and they all hid inside their homes. But what was the use of that? Every household had some animal or object moving inside of it. The entire Manifest City seemed to be moving.
The golem was stunned. When had it ever seen such a spectacle in Manifest City? What did this mean? Were there really this many creatures from its own civilization? Not only that, but they were cooperating far too well.
No one dared to resist. Once the numbers reached a certain point, resistance ceased to hold any meaning. Seeing knives and swords hopping about only caused people to become even more terrified.
Lu Yin kept sending alternate signals. He directed everyone’s movements to take control of the city’s two main streets. Even those who tried to resist a bit found themselves suppressed.
At that moment, Lu Yin was the king of Manifest City. Aside from humans, everything else had to obey him.
Even so, he still had no feeling of controlling Manifest City. Lu Yin kept flying high in the sky. Those who had previously shot arrows at him were currently trembling, not daring to move.
The bird was king.
As for the other creatures who had entered Manifest City, they also started moving along with everything else. They did not know what was happening, only that such a massive upheaval would benefit them.
Lu Yin saw the leaf, which was again stabbed by a piece of bamboo. It still had not escaped. At this moment, it was bouncing excitedly on a chair.
He also saw slippers, and more than one pair. Some creatures actually turned into slippers?
With everyone hiding in their homes and the transformed creatures of Manifest City following Lu Yin’s commands, he issued orders for a while, but it was all useless. There was still no feeling of gaining control over Manifest City. Did he really have to transform into a human for it to work?
Disappointed, he could only direct all the creatures toward the city’s gate. Some had already taken the chance to escape there, but escaping was pointless. There were guards posted outside.
It was possible that such an incident had never before occurred in all of Manifest City’s history. In the past, Manifest City had belonged to the Fifth Rampart. The Fifth Rampart had controlled Manifest City and would have never done such a thing.
Later, the city had fallen into Che’s hands. He had tried every possible means to gain control of Manifest City, and he had also tried to use numbers once, though not to the same extent as Lu Yin. After all, Che had sent in creatures from a civilization that was not his own, and they would have never obeyed him. Lu Yin still did not know what Che’s true form was.
Seeing that it was impossible to gain control of Manifest City with this method, Lu Yin could only lead everyone out.
All of the city’s occupants stayed hidden in their homes. Only after all of the creatures had left did people slowly step back out. They had lived through a nightmare.
Outside Manifest City, the crowd of heads looked like a sea. Tens of millions of humans were continuously emerging from the gate, but sprinkled in among them were many other creatures. Seeing that they were surrounded by humans, each of those creatures shrank back, not daring to move. Chu Songyun, Dan Jin, and others stood guard outside of the crowd. The power of those who had reached the pinnacle of strength beneath the Immortal realm pressed down like a heavy force. Farther away were Kang Tian and Greater Sancte Awe Gate.
Even if an Immortal appeared, they would still be in trouble.
Lu Yin was the last to leave Manifest City. When he emerged, he found all the humans standing on one side, and there were tens of millions of them. The other side was a far smaller crowd. There were only a few hundred thousand, and there were all different kinds of creatures present, though the golem’s kind stood out as the dominant species.
A glance revealed creatures from at least a hundred different civilizations. Che really had not been idle over the years, and he had thrown in plenty of experiments. A considerable portion had escaped and either been dealt with by Che or successfully escaped. The ones that had stayed behind were only a small portion of those who had been unable to escape, like the golem that had been wedged in place.
The Immortal golem was also present. Its body was large, and it was being watched closely. After all, it was an Immortal.
Yet the golem did not dare act up, even before Lu Yin exited the city. Awe Gate’s aura was much too sharp, and she was clearly not someone to be provoked. Not only that, but Kang Tian was standing at her side.
This human civilization was truly formidable.
Lu Yin’s gaze swept over all of the various creatures. “I know that there are Immortals present. Come out.”
There was no chance that Che had captured only one Immortal in his bid to take control of Manifest City. Most of the creatures had merely been experiments, and the Immortals alone were Che’s real hope.
Yet Lu Yin could not understand something; if an Immortal truly did manage to seize control of Manifest City, what did Che intend to do then?
Manifest City was said to possess the strongest defenses of any mirebound artifact. If an Immortal took control of Manifest City, could Che do anything at all to shake it?
This question had troubled Lu Yin from the moment that Manifest City had been turned over to him.
All of the foreign creatures glanced at each other. They did not know each other either, so they spread out, wary of all others.
They had each been stuck inside of Manifest City for so many years, living with different appearances. Their time there had been truly miserable. Now, they had finally escaped, only to find that this human civilization controlled whether they lived or died. At this moment, many creatures felt utterly lost.
As Lu Yin stared, a figure stepped forward, drawing everyone’s attention.
The figure had the appearance of a piece of seaweed, and they were only about a meter tall. They moved as if crawling across the ground, yet as they moved forward, the aura of an Immortal shook the area, causing all nearby creatures to tremble and quickly fall back.
Lu Yin stared at the figure, his eyes flickering. This creature was indeed an Immortal, but unfortunately, their aura was withered. Clearly, they had been severely injured, and their combat power might not even be a match for Chu Songyun’s.
“May I ask... which Rampart do you belong to?” The figure spoke in a hoarse voice, low and weak, yet their words caused Lu Yin’s eyes to bulge wide.
“You know the Nine Ramparts?”
Awe Gate waved a hand, and Kang Tian immediately led the tens of millions of humans away. At the same time, Chu Songyun pulled the foreign creatures back, clearing space for Lu Yin and Awe Gate to speak with this Immortal.
The figure slowly picked itself up. On the bottom of the black seaweed, a pair of sapphire-blue eyes appeared, and they seemed to appraise Lu Yin before glancing at Awe Gate. “Very good. Very good.”
“What’s good?” Lu Yin asked.
“Human civilization still has hope. You are not an Immortal, and yet you stand before Immortals. That is very good.”
Lu Yin exchanged glances with Awe Gate. She was unperturbed. All of the human Immortals had grown used to having Lu Yin step forward in everything. No matter if it was a question of strength or responsibility, Lu Yin was qualified.
At this moment, hearing the words of this seaweed being, it sounded quite friendly toward human civilization.
Lu Yin looked at the seaweed. “You should say something that we can understand.”
“Of course. I am You Wu, You Che’s master.”
Lu Yin and Awe Gate were both shocked. “You’re Che’s master?”
“For you to be able to freely enter and leave Manifest City, you must have either wrested it from Che, or he must have purposely gave it to you. Either way, you must know Che, which means that there is no reason to hide my identity. This day was bound to come. You have been used by Che,” You Wu spoke slowly, announcing something that was of absolutely no surprise to Lu Yin.
He had expected Che to be using him. Rather, it was expected by all of human civilization. Che had returned Manifest City, using a claim of guilt, but only Che himself knew the truth behind his actions.
It was possible that he had spoken the truth, but that possibility was tiny. Lu Yin was more inclined to believe that it was a matter of exploitation.
In the same manner in which Che had tried so many times to have other Immortals gain control of Manifest City, returning the mirebound artifact to a human civilization might be just another experiment.
The only question was: if Lu Yin truly did take control of Manifest City, how would Che seize it back? With Obscura in the picture, the rules of Obscura could not be broken. Also, the current human civilization had grown extremely strong. How would Che take it back?
With these doubts, Lu Yin looked at You Wu. “Please enlighten me, Senior.”
You Wu looked at Lu Yin. “Which Rampart do you belong to?”
“Please enlighten me first,” Lu Yin insisted. He would not trust a stranger just because of a few words.
You Wu laid back down. “Human civilization... when the Nine Ramparts rose and spread across the cosmos, I was lucky enough to once save a human prodigy in Aevum Inch. As the ages flowed on, that prodigy eventually shone brilliantly, serving as the star of an era and eventually becoming the Rampart Warden of the Fifth Rampart. His name was Xiang Xue.”
Lu Yin’s expression turned solemn. Rampart Warden of the Fifth Rampart? Xiang Xue?
“Xiang Xue was loyal and honest. He possessed peerless talent yet no arrogance. In gratitude for my life-saving grace, he specially allowed me to enter the Fifth Rampart. During that era, human civilization dominated the entire region, having no equal. Foreign creatures all regarded being able to enter a Rampart to be an honor. It was an age in which, for humanity, there was exchange with other civilizations and even communication. Human civilization held absolute initiative.
“I entered the Fifth Rampart, and I took my disciple, You Che, with me.
“You Che!” At these words, You Wu’s emotions suddenly spiked. “That beast betrayed me! He betrayed the Fifth Rampart! He betrayed the kindness that Xiang Xue showed us! He is a beast!”
Lu Yin narrowed his eyes. Betrayal? Another betrayal?
Che had once said that he had not betrayed anyone, but his words could not be trusted. Obscura would forever be human civilization’s enemy.
Awe Gate clenched her fist. She hated traitors.
“You Che and I are not human, so to call his actions ‘betrayal’ is, in truth, a bit presumptuous. But in Xiang Xue’s eyes, You Che was no different from any other prodigy of human civilization. In that era, he was even known as the Fifth Rampart’s Young Master Che. The human geniuses all accepted him.” You Wu lay prostrate in the outer space, staring into the distance while continuing to bow low. “I’m sorry, Xiang Xue! I’m sorry! I failed to discipline my disciple. I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I’m sorry...”
Lu Yin could not resist interrupting the creature. “Senior, please continue.”
