Chapter 4557: Seeing
The Lepidarch was shocked. He still has such a vast amount of Stillness left? How can he maintain this technique across such a distant range?
It did not know just how far Lu Yin's Cosmic Art could extend for. Afraid that the skeleton might escape, the Lepidarch hurriedly gave chase.
It had originally planned to wait until Lu Yin made it farther away and only move after the Cosmic Art was no longer able to stop its Myriad Metal Qi from breaking the sourcebox arrays open.
However, the Lepid had realized that it could not wait. If Lu Yin escaped, it would be too late for regret.
At the same time, a great distance away, Thousand Machinations opened its eyes. As expected, he was hiding his limits.
Humans were skilled at hiding their strength, and this remained true even after one became a skeleton.
The Abyssal had already suspected that Lu Yin had hidden how much Stillness he could absorb with the Cosmic Art, and now, Thousand Machinations was seeing stars that surpassed the supposed limit.
However, this was still not enough. There was no way Lu Yin could escape with just this.
It had always been impossible for someone who was not an Immortal being to deal with an entire fishing civilization. Lu Yin had understood that, and Thousand Machinations was naturally even more aware of that fact. All along, this mission had been intended to test Lu Yin's true limits and partly to ensure that a smaller price was paid.
The Lepidarch was right; it had no bones, so it did not fear the Death Megaverse. Any being from the Death Megaverse would have to suffer a large increase in their karmic chain in order to kill the Lepidarch. Lu Yin alone did not.
Seeing that the Lepidarch could not hold back from pursuing Lu Yin, Thousand Machinations' lips curved upward. Has he reached his limit or not? Let me see.
While moving through the Aevum Inch, Lu Yin was struggling to ensure that the stars of the Cosmic Art continued revolving. It required a terrifying consumption of Stillness, and he was about to run out.
Once he was out of Stillness, the sourcebox array on him would be the first to lose its effect, and then the Cosmic Art would also fail. When that happened, the Lepidarch's Bloomdance Transfer alone would be enough to kill him. There would be no need for those four Immortal Lepids to do anything at all.
Lu Yin glanced back. "Lepidarch, I have already obtained what I came for. If you keep chasing me, don’t blame me for risking my life."
The Lepidarch shouted sternly, "What will you use to risk your life? Junior, I will kill you without question. There is no existence that can save you."
Although Lu Yin had the Mirrorlight Art, it was impossible for him to scan all the directions of the Aevum Inch. He had not found Thousand Machinations, so he could only flee with his head down, occasionally retaliating with Yan Gate's First Needle.
However, Lu Yin had fought repeatedly on the Lepidarch Continent, right under the Lepidarch's eyes. The Lepidarch was well aware of all of Lu Yin’s methods. The First Needle and Endless Recall simply could not do anything to the Lepidarch.
Lu Yin checked how much Stillness was still within the Three Deaths Art that he had left behind. This is bad. Thousand Machinations is trying to get me killed. Do I really need to have my true body come over? But Thousand Machinations is definitely watching from the shadows.
Lu Yin did not know whether Thousand Machinations would act when he encountered a truly desperate situation. Before, when Dark Prisonbone had crippled him, Thousand Machinations had offered a small bit of help, but the bear’s experiment was already over. There was no guarantee that the Abyssal would save Lu Yin today.
There was only one life, and once the skeleton clone died, it would be gone forever.
Lu Yin looked around and then suddenly fixed his gaze in one direction. There it is! Thousand Machinations' Abyss.
You still aren’t revealing yourself even now. If you don’t show me any kindness, then don’t blame me for dragging you down!
Thinking of this, Lu Yin changed directions and headed towards the Abyss. He could see the Abyss, but the Lepidarch could not. It was a considerable distance away, even beyond a two-law powerhouse’s sight.
Lu Yin wanted to lure the Lepidarch over to the Abyss. When the time came, even if Thousand Machinations did not act, Lu Yin would still be able to absorb Stillness and use that to endure until the Lepidarch was worn down. It would become a competition of attrition.
On the other side, Thousand Machinations was surprised. Can he sense the Abyss?
The Abyssal had given Lu Yin his mission in order to ambush the Lepidarch. Lu Yin should have no idea how to find the Abyss again. He was simply too far away. Without Thousand Machinations leading the way, how could Lu Yin possibly find his way back?
As for seeing it, Thousand Machinations had never even considered that a possibility. Seeing the Abyss from such a distance was something that no being in the entire Death Megaverse could do, including the seven Abyssals. Thousand Machinations had no idea just how Lu Yin had managed to locate the Abyss.
However, even if he were farther away, Lu Yin would still be able to see it.
There was no time now to consider the possibility of Thousand Machinations becoming suspicious or anything else; surviving was what mattered most.
If Thousand Machinations ultimately decided to target Lu Yin, in the worst case scenario, his true body would appear. Thousand Machinations could not be expected to have any advantage over Lu Yin’s true body. His true body was capable of directly fighting against three-law powerhouses.
Across the darkness of the Aevum Inch, one creature fled as the other pursued.
The Lepidarch was extremely fast, its speed far surpassing ordinary Immortals. After all, it was a Lepid. Each flap of its wings allowed it to directly catch up to Lu Yin, but with the help of the Cosmic Art, Lu Yin was able to repeatedly avoid the Lepidarch's attacks. A star would occasionally detonate while Endless Recall and First Needles were constantly released. Those attacks did make the Lepidarch somewhat leery.
Even so, the Lepidarch still did not reveal its true body and only attacked with Myriad Metal Qi. It was still determined to first exhaust Lu Yin's Stillness.
The faster Lu Yin fled, the more Stillness that he consumed. Given the distance between him and Thousand Machinations' Abyss, it would take him some time to arrive, and his Stillness simply would not last that long.
He also had no time to calculate carefully. He could only run as far and as fast as possible.
Time continued to pass. Thousand Machinations was now certain that Lu Yin knew the direction of the Abyss. As the human skeleton fled, his direction never varied by even the slightest bit.
How does he know the location of my Abyss? A rare trace of doubt appeared in Thousand Machinations' eyes.
However, it was also clear to the bear that Lu Yin would not be able to reach the Abyss. His Stillness could not last for that long.
Whether on the Lepidarch Continent or in the Aevum Inch, the Lepidarch's most effective tool against Lu Yin was to stall. It had been dragging things out all along, wanting to wear down Lu Yin's power until he was completely exhausted.
It should clearly be able to deal with him, yet it kept dragging things out. Why?
Lu Yin looked back. Unfortunately, even if he found the reason, it would be useless. The gap between him and the Lepidarch was simply too great.
The consumption of using both the Cosmic Art and his own sourcebox array meant that Lu Yin was fated to not reach the Abyss.
The Three Deaths Art only contained enough Stillness to release the Cosmic Art at its limit one more time. Let alone the Lepidarch, but even the four Immortal Lepids would force Lu Yin to detonate it all to escape.
As the Lepidarch pursued Lu Yin, its shock only grew. This skeleton actually possessed astounding reserves of power. This was beyond unreasonable. Forget the fact that he was not even an Immortal—even most Immortal beings did not possess this much raw power. The Stillness that this creature carried was at least as much as what a two-law Immortal should have.
Still, he should be close to his reaching limit.
Much farther away, Thousand Machinations watched calmly. Soon. He’s almost at his limit.
Lu Yin looked at the distant Abyss. He had only covered about half the distance, despite fleeing for so long. He had already conserved as much Stillness as possible, but no matter how much he tried to conserve it, there was simply no time for him to cover the remaining distance. Did he really have to fight the Lepidarch? Retreating to the Abyss was the best choice, but if it was impossible to escape that far, it would only be an unreachable dream. Striving for the impossible would easily drag him to his death.
He looked around, searching for some other way to escape death.
It did not take long for him to see a megaverse. He stared at it, seeing all kinds of creatures living within it.
He looked back at the Lepidarch, changed directions, and started making his way to the megaverse.
Seeing Lu Yin change direction, Thousand Machinations frowned. He can definitely see extremely far. He saw the Abyss, and he just found that megaverse.
He actually changed direction to go to that megaverse. This is a bit problematic.
**
A disk floated peacefully across the Aevum Inch. It was some distance away from Lu Yin but directly in his escape path. This disk was a Thread of Heaven, and creatures from many different civilizations were inside, exchanging information.
Of those creatures, some mentioned the Lepidarch Continent, confirming it as a fishing civilization and warning other creatures to be wary of it.
Others mentioned the Death Megaverse, though they had virtually no knowledge of it. They only knew that it was the greatest darkness.
Within this large disk, communication was conducted through disks. They were shrunk down countless times over and randomly floated around, marked with characters that were unique to this Thread of Heaven.
"If there were an Immortal being, we could feel at ease."
"Wrong. Sometimes having an Immortal being makes things even less secure. Some fishing civilizations may not be interested in ordinary civilizations but will absolutely target an Immortal being."
"Exactly. Having an Immortal being is a double-edged sword. Having one grants an advantage when facing ordinary civilizations, but against powerful civilizations, such a powerhouse is as conspicuous as a lighthouse."
"It shouldn’t be that serious. I think that an Immortal being should be enough to protect a cosmic civilization."
"You are too naive."
"The master of this Thread of Heaven is an Immortal being, right?"
"Do not discuss that."
"Huh? Did things just shake?"
"It seems so."
"It really shook..."
The cosmos had been calm, but an instance later, it shook. The master of the Thread of Heaven grew wary and peered into the distance. What was the cause of this sudden heart-pounding dread?
A moment later, a shadow abruptly appeared. It had moved so fast that the master of the disk was horrified.
It was indeed an Immortal, but only a very ordinary Immortal. It harbored kind intentions and had created a Thread of Heaven in hopes of offering certain civilizations a bit of shelter and knowledge. Its only defining trait was its speed, but the speed that it considered fast was far too slow when compared to the shadow that flashed by.
The Immortal froze, not daring to move at all. It could only remain in place.
The next instance, a suffocating pressure swept over the disk, causing the entire Thread of Heaven to tremble. The creatures within almost lost consciousness while the master of the disk forced itself to resist the urge to flee and remain still. That was because it knew that it simply could not escape.
This shadow possessed amazing combat power, and it was far faster than the master of the Thread of Heaven.
It could not move, and it would be best to not even resist. It was an Immortal being and its greatest protection was the increase in its killer’s karmic chain.
Lu Yin swept past at an extremely fast speed, merely turning his head to glance at the disk. A Thread of Heaven?
He saw the carvings on the disk. An Immortal?
He looked away after just a glance and continued to race across the cosmos.
Still frozen in place, the master of the disk saw Lu Yin, who was just a skeleton. It thought of that civilization that brought death. This creature was definitely from that civilization. Fortunately, this skeleton simply swept by and did not make things difficult for it.
Just as the Immortal was about to let out a sigh of relief, an even more terrifying pressure fell upon it. At this moment, the entire cosmos seemed to be overturned. Its entire body grew countless times heavier, rendering it unable to flee even if it wanted to try.
It slowly looked over. In the distance, it saw a huge colored Lepid flapping its wings as it drew closer.
The master of the Thread of Heaven was stunned. What kind of day is this? Is that THAT fishing civilization?
The creatures within the Thread of Heaven had just been discussing these two civilizations. There were only these two fishing civilizations nearby, and both had just appeared. Could they have been drawn over by the discussion inside? Damn it!
The Lepidarch flapped its wings, its enormous body instantly arriving beside the disk. Instantly, every creature present felt that they were being watched. This was the Lepidarch.
At this moment, the master of the disk felt that disaster was about to befall it.
