Chapter 4591: The Eternal Consciousness Realm
Lu Yin took a step forward, memorizing everything about it with his consciousness. Although he only covered the distance of a single stride, every detail of that distance was imprinted in his mind via his consciousness. He recalled it over and over, and after taking that step, Lu Yin continued to replay the memory of it.
He remembered it. He had remembered a step.
However, merely taking one step and remembering it left him mentally exhausted. It felt as though he had memorized an entire book all at once. This was because he had forced himself to remember it with his consciousness.
Next came the second step. He stepped forward again, still recording with his consciousness. He remembered the second step as well, and also the third. He proceeded, one step at a time, forcibly imprinting every step into his memory via his consciousness. Each step taken was forcibly memorized to ensure that he did not forget his progress.
The process was exhausting, but for some inexplicable reason, he felt that this was what he should do, even if he did not understand the meaning of doing so.
An opportunity to become invincible. Invincibility. How could that possibly be easy to attain?
Unfortunately, Old Ancestor Shan had not explained anything clearly. Even Old Sixth did not know what this opportunity for invincibility was.
Lu Yin continued walking through the carvings of the scroll, step by step. Soon enough, he arrived at the etchings. He looked at the lines. He had to remember them, as well as the entire carved scroll. However, judging by his current condition, that did not seem possible.
He raised a hand and touched the carved lines, forcing himself to memorize them with his consciousness.
He took another step forward.
Lu Yin’s eyes suddenly flared, and a light flashed across them. A scroll appeared in his mind at that moment, the same scroll that he was currently wandering through. However, the scroll in his mind was blurry, practically nothing more than a blank expanse. The only markings on it were the few steps he had just taken and the carved lines that he had memorized.
The carved scroll had appeared inside his mind. More precisely, it had appeared in his memory. Along with its appearance, there were three words: Eternal Consciousness Realm.
Was this the Eternal Consciousness Realm?
Lu Yin kept his hand upraised and felt the etchings. His gaze went blank as he considered the words that had appeared in his mind and the blurry scroll. Sensing them, he felt a vast and unfathomable power.
As an Immortal, Lu Yin was strong enough to put up a fight against even a three-law supreme powerhouse, and yet this power still gave him a feeling of unsurpassed majesty. His intuition told him that if he could perfectly reproduce this Eternal Consciousness Realm within his mind, then he would experience an extraordinary transformation.
He did not know what this Eternal Consciousness Realm could be used for, only that even with his current strength, simply starting the process was incredibly difficult. This was something prepared solely for Immortals.
The Immortal realm was the endpoint of cultivation, but in some ways, it also seemed to be just the starting point.
It was merely that most Immortals were unable to even touch that starting point. It was simply too exhausting.
Lu Yin felt that his consciousness was unable to continue on. Earlier, more than half of his consciousness had been consumed just to make the scroll appear, and his remaining consciousness had also reached its limit.
He had to find a way to replenish his consciousness.
He greatly desired to continue copying this Eternal Consciousness Realm, but his consciousness was insufficient. He could only withdraw for the time being.
Seeing the etched scroll slowly sink back into the void, Lu Yin released his consciousness, and it reappeared.
His eyes lit up. This was excellent, as it meant that not much of his consciousness would be devoured each time he wanted to see this thing. Otherwise, even if he devoured all the conscients in a hundred Consciousness Megaverses, it would still be useless.
The scroll disappeared again.
Lu Yin guessed that Old Ancestor Shan must have tried to memorize this scroll as well. He must have started copying down the Eternal Consciousness Realm but had failed to complete the process. What made Old Ancestor Shan stronger than Lu Yin was that the ancient toad had known of the power of the Eternal Consciousness Realm, which was why he had declared it an opportunity for invincibility.
But none of the other Seven-Treasure Anuras had the ability to even force the Eternal Consciousness Realm to appear.
What about Thousand Machinations? Why did the Abyssal know about this opportunity for invincibility?
Lu Yin returned to the Tianyuan and went to find Twenty-Fifth. “Did Old Ancestor Shan ever make you cultivate consciousness?”
Twenty-Fifth blankly stared at Lu Yin, their expression very simple and also completely stunned. “How did you know?”
“He really made you cultivate it?”
“Mhmm.”
“And what happened?”
“I didn’t like it.”
Lu Yin nodded and patted Twenty-Fifth on the head. “Go play.”
The toad was left even more astonished. “Ancestor also patted my head back then and told me to go play. Human Lord Lu, how do you know everything?”
Lu Yin pursed his lips tightly. He could now understand Old Ancestor Shan’s helplessness. These little toads were hopeless. If even one of them could have worked hard and cultivated consciousness, Old Ancestor Shan would not have had to say anything at all, but the ancient toad had clearly understood that not even he could completely copy down the Eternal Consciousness Realm with his consciousness. Even if his descendants had worked harder, who knew how long it would have taken them to reach the same height as their ancestor, let alone be able to successfully copy down the etched scroll.
An opportunity for invincibility. Invincibility really was as difficult to obtain as ascending to the heavens, even for an old three-law monster.
The next time he went to see that carved scroll, it would have to be after his consciousness was greatly strengthened. Without a drastic improvement, there would be no point in going.
Returning to that place seemed rather far off in his future.
Next, he needed to kill the Lepidarch.
***
More than 200 years’ travel from the Human Trio, the Lepidarch’s massive body slowly flew forward, heading almost straight towards the human civilization.
Even if Furball had not shared the trajectory with Lu Yin, humanity would have soon noticed the butterfly’s approach. However, it was quite possible that a delayed detection would have led to an unavoidable battle.
Lu Yin’s skeleton clone stood in the Aevum Inch and opened a gate. Old Sixth walked out.
This was the method that the toad had given to Lu Yin as a means of contact. They glanced sideways at Lu Yin. “You still insist on fighting this battle?”
Lu Yin replied, “It must be fought.”
Old Sixth rolled their eyes. “Do you know how much this battle will cost me?”
“Thank you.”
“This isn’t a matter of thanks, but my karmic chain.”
“I will compensate you.”
“Forget it. I still remember when my old man mentioned human civilization and said to not get entangled with you. I never thought that the civilization that we would end up the most deeply entangled with would be you humans.” After a pause, Old Sixth said, “One condition.”
Lu Yin looked over. “Say it.”
Old Sixth very somberly stated, “Cause less trouble.”
Lu Yin nodded. “Don’t worry.”
Old Sixth was left speechless. They stared at this human skeleton and then glanced back at the Trio. Could this man really cause less trouble?
“I called Cyan over to help out as well. Your reason for helping me deal with the Lepidarch is that, when Devouring Trace was killed, I saved your life. Make sure you remember that.”
“That’s logical enough.”
Lu Yin took out another gate and opened that one as well. Furball emerged from it. Their enormous figure caused Old Sixth to unconsciously rise up until they were level with Furball. This way, the toad did not appear lesser to the other being.
Speaking of which, this thing clearly resonated with only one cosmic law, so just where did it get the confidence to be so massive? Was it not afraid of being beaten up?
Furball glanced at Old Sixth with evident wariness. This was a two-law expert who had even managed to become one of the Death Megaverse’s Abyssals. This toad possessed incredible strength, and even if Old Sixth had not reached the peak of two laws, that was merely a matter of time. This toad was likely not much weaker than Hong Xia.
“Senior, the Lepidarch is just ahead.” Lu Yin revealed an entirely different attitude, showing a measure of respect towards Furball.
Furball nodded, then glanced back at Old Sixth. “Thank you, for helping with this battle.”
Old Sixth raised a brow, not knowing just how Lu Yin had managed to rope this Immortal being in. The toad could tell that this member of Obscura was genuinely grateful.
Damn it! I’m clearly helping this guy deal with a powerful enemy, and yet this is the attitude that I have to deal with? This is like being sold off and then having to help the seller count the money.
“I owe him my life. This is just repayment,” Old Sixth stated.
Furball said nothing more. They turned to face the Lepidarch and clenched their fists. “Then... attack!”
“Wait a moment. We still need to make some preparations,” Lu Yin said.
Some time later, Furball raised both hands. Old Sixth and Lu Yin each stood on one of the green giant’s palms as Furball frantically ran towards the Lepidarch just like when Lu Yin had asked Furball to frighten the Lepidarch before. Furball’s momentum shook the cosmos.
Far in the distance, the Lepidarch was quietly flying along when it suddenly grew rather uneasy. It stared straight ahead. Something was approaching.
What is that?
The Lepidarch stared into the distance. A small cyan spot appeared, and it quickly drew closer and closer. Pressure swept over, accompanied by Furball’s roar. It was as if a crazed giant were charging towards the butterfly.
The Lepidarch was shocked. That thing again?
It felt like deja vu. The exact same scene had played out before, and at that time, the green giant had said that they were just passing by, but how could this furious charge be them just passing by?
This time, the creature was putting off even more pressure than before, and they were even erupting with cyan divine energy.
The Lepidarch hurriedly changed direction, but Furball also changed direction and continued charging towards it.
The Lepidarch shouted, “You are courting death!”
Myriad-Metal Qi gathered before the butterfly and then was released in a slash.
Streams of Myriad-Metal Qi shot towards Furball like raindrops. The giant roared again, the sound tearing the void apart and pushing layer after layer of space away. The massive dining table took form, and the giant pulled their hands back. As the hands moved back, Old Sixth and Lu Yin leaped onto the table, one jumping onto the spoon and the other into the pot.
Furball grabbed the spoon and the pot, and then smashed them down.
Clang.
The void trembled, and the cosmos swayed. There was a massive surge of divine energy as the spoon and pot collided with the Myriad-Metal Qi.
The pot was pierced through, and Lu Yin dodged to the side. Furball could not compare to the Lepidarch’s power. After all, the butterfly was a peak two-law Immortal, and even just its Myriad-Metal Qi was enough to suppress Furball.
The only thing that the green giant could use to fight back was divine energy.
This was also the entire reason why they had managed to force the Lepidarch back the last time they had met.
Divine energy, much like Stillness, possessed an overwhelming advantage over other energies.
The spoon was also cut apart by the Myriad-Metal Qi.
Furball directly hurled the spoon and pot at the Lepidarch before pushing the dining table forward with both hands, ramming it ahead.
The Lepidarch flapped its wings, and Butterfly Blooms appeared on Furball. Their aura instantly weakened, though it was unknown what power had been absorbed. Then, there was a deafening boom as Furball received a barrage of attacks from the Butterfly Blooms. It forced them to retreat step after step: Bloomdance Transfer.
The broken spoon and the perforated pot were both hurled at the Lepidarch. It flapped its wings to blow them away, only for Old Sixth and Lu Yin to simultaneously charge out.
“Little butterfly, come!” Old Sixth roared, their steel fork fiercely stabbing forward.
Lu Yin released an eruption of Stillness. One palm released Endless Recall, while the other unleashed the Duality Seal.
The Lepidarch was surprised by the two that had been hiding within the pot and spoon. These three wanted to surround and kill it.
Infinite Expansion.
Old Sixth’s steel fork struck nothing. The Lepidarch was clearly right before the toad’s eyes, yet it was also infinitely far away.
Endless Recall and the Duality Seal also failed to connect.
The sneak attack had failed. The Lepidarch’s cosmic law stretched space out endlessly, suppressing all powers that had not surpassed infinity.
Lu Yin had experienced this before, and yet he still felt utterly helpless upon facing it again.
When he had decided to ambush and kill the Lepidarch, he had also made preparations. First, he had placed a Grand Clarity sourcebox array to protect both Furball and Old Sixth’s bodies, isolating them both from the Lepidarch’s Butterfly Blooms and Bloomdance Transfer. Second, he had studied this move. If they could not overcome this cosmic law, they would never be able to win.
To break a cosmic law, one needed to either suppress it with pure power or with another cosmic law. This was precisely the same as how Greater Sancte Green Lotus had been prepared to face Hong Xia’s Absolute of No Absolutes with the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm.
There was another option as well, which was to find a flaw in the cosmic law.
