Chapter 4622: Registration
After a pause, the Lousai creature continued to explain, “Once one cultivates the power of Tide, they may apply to become an enlightenment god. Once one cultivates the power of River, one may apply to become a combat god. And once one cultivates the power of Return, one may enter the Divine Palace for an audience and be enfeoffed with a megaverse.
“Once one cultivates the power of Space, one may take a divine envoy as their master. All divine envoys are Immortal beings.
“Last is the power of Origin. Once one cultivates this power, they may enter the Divine Palace, and with the Divine Palace’s help, attempt to break through to become an Immortal being. If their breakthrough succeeds, they may themself become a divine envoy.”
Lu Yin was surprised. “How do you know all of this so clearly?”
“This is common knowledge. Every civilization in the cosmos under the Divine Palace knows this. The Divine Palace uses this knowledge to encourage creatures to cultivate,” the creature replied.
Lu Yin nodded. That was normal enough. However, this place really was different from the Aevum Inch that he had been in before. There, there had been no communication between cosmic civilizations. Once two foreign civilizations encountered each other, massacre was the most likely outcome, as well as the reset of a megaverse. Here, there was actually a unified cultivation system here.
How strange.
“Are the civilizations here not destroyed?”
“They are. Any that fail to meet the Divine Palace’s requirements for offerings are simply destroyed.”
“Does that happen to many?”
“A great many.”
Lu Yin’s eyes flickered. Apparently, the cultivation system here was not fully unified after all, but rather selective. Offerings of time were required. As he thought back to the Aevum Inch before the Primacy Paths’ powers had descended to devour and harvest various powers, the outline became clear.
The Death Megaverse’s presence in the previous region of the Aevum Inch was what had changed things there. The Primacy Paths’ powers had ignored that area for too long, which had led the harvesting of various powers to become violent and forced.
Alternatively, this region had long since fallen under the control of the Primacy Paths. Thus, the power here was harvested in an orderly manner. Since time was being harvested in this manner, the same must also be true of Karma, Fate, Life, and so on.
The Divine Palace should be the local representative that harvested time on behalf of the Temporal Primacy Path.
Glancing at Lu Yin, the creature respectfully said, “Now that the Divine Palace has confirmed the existence of an Immortal being, it will certainly come to extend an invitation. The Lousai race hereby congratulates the new divine envoy on his appointment.”
“Congratulations for the divine envoy’s appointment.”
“Congratulations...”
Lu Yin looked at the various creatures sprawled across the ground. He casually waved a hand, strengthened their bodies, and then vanished by teleporting away.
An invitation to the Divine Palace? That would not do. At the very least, his true body could not join the Divine Palace. If that happened, as soon as the Divine Palace took one look at him and saw his complete karmic chain, there would be trouble.
He needed to use a clone to learn about the Divine Palace. He wanted to see just what kind of existence this representative of a Primacy Path was.
Especially what that talk of Sequences meant.
The fact that the white figure had invited him to join the Sequences of the Life Primacy meant that other Primacy Paths could also extend invitations. Perhaps the representatives of the Primacy Paths were referred to as Sequences.
After leaving the previous region of the Aevum Inch, Lu Yin found everything unfamiliar.
He also did not know where the Death Megaverse had gone. His skeleton clone could not be used for the time being. It could only continue sleeping in its place of seclusion.
One enemy after another had disappeared. The Mudwater Dominion, the Divine Realm, the Plume Immortals, and even Obscura—who knew how long it would be before he encountered them again? What would be the circumstances of their next meeting? He truly looked forward to it.
After moving far from the Lousai race, Lu Yin brought out his divine energy clone and looked around. He quickly found what he was searching for.
The Divine Palace used altars to allow its various gods to appear and resolve matters for different civilizations. Not all of those gods could stay within the Divine Palace. The distances were too far. No matter how miraculous the altar’s ability was, it could not be that powerful.
It was very likely that the gods were scattered throughout the cosmos. Whatever spirit-communing god, transmission god, or enlightenment god each civilization contacted was simply the nearest one.
The altars might allow them to quickly connect to a certain location, but there had to be a limit for each altar’s distance, and each use had to also consume resources.
Lu Yin was lucky, as he had already found one. He teleported close to the god that he had found and then moved towards it.
A short distance away, a figure was sitting cross-legged atop an altar, the void distorted as the creature deliberately put on an act of being mysterious.
Lu Yin approached and coughed once, startling the figure on the altar. “Who’s there?”
It had not sensed any creature approaching it.
Lu Yin greeted it. “Hello.”
The figure instantly turned to look at Lu Yin. It was a strangely shaped creature, and its form somewhat resembled a starfish, though it had a round head that bulged upward. It was rather uncomfortable to look at.
Still, its cultivation was decent. It was a Dukkhan.
“Who are you?” the creature asked warily.
Lu Yin smiled. “Don’t be nervous. I just happened to pass by. You should be one of the Divine Palace’s gods, right? I want to join the Divine Palace to cultivate there.”
That creature stared at Lu Yin. “Where are you from?”
“A civilization that hasn’t been discovered yet, and one which also doesn’t wish to be discovered,” Lu Yin replied.
Although the Divine Palace ruled over the entire region of the Aevum Inch, it did not have full knowledge of this region. Any given megaverse was tiny in the scope of the cosmos. From the Lousai race, Lu Yin had learned that the Divine Palace was constantly discovering new civilizations.
The creature let out a sigh of relief. “If your civilization does not wish to be discovered, then why did you come out?”
Lu Yin shrugged. “My cultivation has reached the limit, so I want to change to another method. It’s said that the Divine Palace’s cultivation methods can lead one to become an Immortal being. I want to give that a try.”
“You want to change your cultivation method now?”
“My current cultivation system will never give me a chance to become an Immortal being. I don’t have a choice.”
“Fine. Register.” As the creature spoke, something that looked like a roll of cloth unfurled before it, extending towards Lu Yin.
However, once the roll of cloth approached Lu Yin, it suddenly swept to the side.
He had not expected things to go too smoothly, and a single step took him out of range of the attack. “What is the meaning of this?”
That creature rushed off of the altar, wielding a strange weapon. It did not stab or slash with the weapon, but rather slammed it sideways towards Lu Yin. Each step the creature took caused its weapon to grow a bit heavier as it charged at Lu Yin. Its entire body seemed surrounded by tides, carrying an unstoppable momentum. Even the void was shoved aside.
Lu Yin watched on calmly. This creature was shockingly weak.
How should he put it?
If this creature was placed within the Human Trio, it would be considered only the most average of Dukkhans. Although its tide-like power was continuous and unending, no matter how continuous it might be, if it could not achieve a certain level of force, it would never be able to harm a powerful enemy.
Lu Yin raised a finger.
Bang.
There was a small sound, and the strange weapon stopped.
That creature gaped in horror. Had this unknown being really blocked its full-powered attack with just one finger? How was that possible?
There was a cracking sound, and the strange weapon split apart, starting from the point where it touched the finger. The crack continued to spread, until ultimately, the entire weapon shattered and fell.
Lu Yin smirked. “Still want to fight?”
That creature knew that it was helpless before this being, and it stared at Lu Yin in horror. “Just who are you?”
Lu Yin shrugged. “I am strong, and your attack failed, so let’s talk now. Why did you attack me?”
That creature grew increasingly nervous, and it hurried to kneel to Lu Yin. “I am sorry, respected powerhouse. This lowly one has offended you.”
Lu Yin was rendered speechless. Was kneeling to worship someone more powerful a popular move here? No matter what, this creature was still considered a god. Did it have no dignity whatsoever?
“...Why did you attack me?”
“This lowly one is an enlightenment god of the Divine Palace. If I can find a new civilization, it would be a great achievement. It might grant me the chance to enter the Divine Palace and recultivate, using the Divine Palace’s resources to attempt a higher-level method and possibly reach the level of a combat god. So...”
Lu Yin laughed. “Did you not think that you could lose? I approached you without a sound and without you sensing anything. Couldn’t you see that?”
That creature fully prostrated itself. “It is possible that it was merely some kind of aura-concealing technique.”
Lu Yin shook his head. “Mountain, Moon, Illumination, Dusk, Reverse, Tide, River, Return, Void, and Origin. You have cultivated to Tide, so you should know how to cultivate all the powers before Tide, correct? Tell me.”
If he could encounter creatures actively cultivating each of these powers, he would be able to understand the powers with just a glance, but doing so would waste too much time. It was better to just ask this creature.
This put the creature in a difficult position. “Respected powerhouse, these powers can only be cultivated after one joins the Divine Palace. It is necessary to first register.”
Lu Yin sneered. “Do you believe that I can poke you dead with one finger?”
That creature hurriedly explained, “The power of Mountain is cultivated by relying on mountains.”
“I know that.”
“The power of Moon is cultivated alongside the moon. What is cultivated is the moon’s radiance...
“The power of Dusk cultivates an ability that is like darkness yet not darkness...
“The power of Reverse cultivates the method of stillness...
“The power of Tide cultivates the endless, continuous motion of the ocean...”
Lu Yin listened quietly. No matter how he listened, he felt that these powers were very ordinary. Was it because his perspective was too high? In the past, the Fifth Mainland had cultivated stellular energy that originated from the Origin Progenitor, who had created that power before becoming an Immortal.
None of the powers cultivated by the Divine Palace were inferior to stellular energy. In fact, some were even stronger. It could only be said that Lu Yin’s perspective had risen too high, causing him to look down on such powers that had been purposely spread by mediocre Immortals for various civilizations to use.
The powers had mundane names like “Moon” and “Tide” and were also related to the moon and the ocean. However, that moon and ocean did not refer to those of a single planet, but rather to all such bodies within the Divine Palace’s range, which was an enormous territory.
Only an Immortal could accomplish something like that.
Cultivating these powers was merely a progression, a test of a cultivator’s talent as they climbed upward one step at a time. Only after reaching Return did one count as having entered the door and was qualified to enter the Divine Palace for an audience.
“You are an enlightenment god, correct?”
“Yes.”
“Register me.”
The enlightenment god heaved a sigh of relief. As long as this unknown creature was willing to register, everything would be fine. It could not wait to help Lu Yin register.
That same roll of cloth came out again, but this time, it stopped in front of Lu Yin. He needed to leave an imprint of his own form on the cloth.
After thinking for a moment, he left an imprint. It was a figure of mist.
The appearance of the imprint was rather similar to the black streams that concealed the creatures of the Death Megaverse, but Lu Yin was merely using mist to conceal his true form.
The human form was rather eye-catching, even if he did not know whether humans meant anything special in this region of the Aevum Inch. After finally managing to escape from the gaze of several civilizations, Lu Yin did not want to return to that situation again.
Additionally, there was another reason: he was not registering with the Divine Palace with either his true body or his divine energy clone, but rather another clone. This was a clone that had not cultivated any power and only possessed physical strength. Although it had not cultivated any power, it did possess one special ability: the Immortal Lord’s power of growth.
The Immortal Lord had a green power of growth. That power’s characteristics were uniquely distinct from other powers. Lu Yin had obtained some of it in the past, and he had stored it in his inner universe. He now placed it within this clone, so that it could continuously nourish the clone.
Growth was a process that no living being could avoid. Ancestor Lu Yuan’s ability to grow the innate gift of teleportation also stemmed from a similar power. There was a chance that this green power of growth might bring about a different kind of surprise in the future.
Looking at the form on the cloth, this enlightenment god was stunned. “Respected powerhouse, you must imprint your own form.”
Mist surged out around Lu Yin. “Did I not?”
The enlightenment god looked at the form on the cloth and then back at Lu Yin. It did not dare to argue. It simply rolled up the cloth, put it away, and bowed. “Your registration is already complete.”
Lu Yin grunted in acknowledgment and then casually waved a hand. The enlightenment god fell to the ground, already dead.
This creature would definitely report to the Divine Palace on everything that had happened with Lu Yin’s registration and ambush, and such a hidden danger could not be left alive. Besides, the creature had not been good. It had wanted to find Lu Yin’s civilization so that it could report it for merit.
