Chapter 2617 - 2618: Choose Your Path

-----

"My brothers and sisters, or whatever remains of them… They want to honor their legacy one last time. Step into the circle, young man. You will become the last Angelic Knight."

"I had no idea I needed to do a trial… this is completely new; the System never even told me about this…"

"Your "System" must be a powerful tool, but also… it feels like it is not exactly a separate power from your own."

"W-what do you mean?"

"You're the Son of an Overseer, are you not? You possess what some simply call a "Trait", a powerful fragment of the Origin World that is born within your Soul Origin, which connects directly to the Root of All Creation. Hence, it creates a power that defies the laws of reality."

"M-Me? The Son of an Overseer…? Wait… Why… Why do I recognize that title?"

Frank fell silent for a moment, his eyes widening, as he suddenly started seeing more memories, more images within his head.

"Ugh… My father…! My father… Who disappeared so long ago…! Are you saying he is… a cosmic being or whatever?!"

"Most likely… I suppose we do have something in common, both of our fathers abandoned us."

"A-Ah… Hahah…"

Frank smiled lightly, despite this revelation, he didn't feel as shocked as he thought he would.

It was as if deep down, he already knew that.

"…I apologize. Was that too rude? It has been eons since I last talked with someone... Perhaps I've grown out of touch."

"No… It's fine… I just… am still wondering a lot of things. But I suppose… Even though there isn't a timer, there's this sense of urgency within me. I think I have to hurry up."

"Yes, the circle has been formed. Step into it. This Divine Circle will take you to the Heavenly Sanctuary of Trials. You will face a Challenge there. You must overcome it, and be given the title of an Angelic Knight, the last one that will ever be born."

"…"

Frank remained silent for a moment, he thought a lot of things, but at the end, it wasn't like he had any other option right now.

"We are running out of time, young man… The power that I and my brothers and sisters have… it is slowly decreasing; you must take a decision."

Frank sighed.

"Fine, but you… you and your siblings are coming with me once this is done, alright?"

"Huh?"

Michael was surprised as Frank spoke like that, confused about what he could even mean.

However, she felt like this was perhaps destined to happen.

The child of an Overseer appearing out of nowhere… In their abandoned cathedral.

It couldn't be a coincidence.

"How exactly are you planning to do that?"

"I don't know… but if what you said its true, if this System is not just something attached to me, but a power that comes from my own soul… Then I'll find a way."

Frank slowly walked towards the golden circle, as it began spinning around once he stood in the middle of it.

"Wait for me, White."

FLASH!

As he disappeared, engulfed by light, Michale stood there, glancing at the circle.

She began to wonder what other experiences her other alternate self had experienced.

And the she glanced at her brothers and sisters, trembling, small cracks spreading through their bodies, the same as her.

"My siblings… Are you really doing this? For him?"

As they remained in silence, suddenly…

"I feel like it's the right thing to do."

"He came… all the way here… I pity him…"

"We cannot disappoint the boy… Can't we?"

"I see sincerity and love in his heart, but also… a hidden darkness. He is going through a lot."

"Whatever the outcome of this trial will lead to… it might change the fate of billions of souls."

"Michael… Perhaps our mission is yet to be over."

If she could smile, she would be smiling as she heard their voices resonating from their statues.

"Yes… perhaps that's not wrong, my brothers and sisters."

.

.

.

Frank opened his eyes again, finding himself in another place entirely.

This place… couldn't be easily described, but what Frank immediately noticed was that it wasn't a normal building.

When he heard he was going to a Sanctuary, he imagined some sort of special, heavenly building in the skies.

But not this…

"Everything is made of light… and stars?"

Frank realized he was in the interior of some sort of gigantic hall, the walls, floor, ceiling, even the decorative areas, everything was made of small stars and light, of constellations spinning around.

As he took a step forward, the floor beneath him shone brightly, showing a cosmos reacting to his steps.

He felt strange… Was this just magic, an illusion, or real stars?

"This can't be just stars, right?"

As he looked around, confused, he suddenly noticed there were three doors, made of connected stars and golden blue light, and beautiful nebulas everywhere.

"Doors…"

He looked at the doors in silence and then realized that he had to choose between the three doors.

"What is this place?"

He walked into the door at his right side, noticing it had something engraved, made of stars.

Letters he couldn't understand, but that he actually did.

[Path of Wisdom]

That's what he could read from it.

The letters wasn't the only thing there.

Several aligned stars showed what resembled a big eye, shining beautifully, as if it were a whole galaxy.

"And that one… what is it?"

He walked at the door to the right, noticing another series of words, accompanied by a heart.

[Path of Courage]

"…"

And lastly, he looked at the door behind him, which showed the image of an open palm holding a star.

[Path of Humility]

"These are paths… I see, but what do I do with this? Do I choose one? Wait, that's it, huh?"

Frank quickly realized he had to choose a path for his trial.

Whatever that meant, he didn't know.

The system wasn't appearing to guide him like always.

He was on his own.

"Okay then…"

Which Path would Frank choose?

Wisdom?

Courage?

Or Humility?

"I can only assume what they mean… Perhaps how the class ends up becoming is defined by these Paths. If that's the case, then I cannot just choose whatever."

He gripped his fists, beginning to think a bit deeper.
