Chapter 2888 - 2889: The Terrifying Vampire Family

-----

"Who the hell brings kids to this place?"

"Are they stupid or something?"

"Aw, are they a family?"

"Let's just kill them already. Look how weak they are. They don't even have Auras."

"I detect not an ounce of Mana inside of them either..."

A group of five assassins clad in black stared down at a family approaching Mount Takao. Leading the group was a stunning red-haired mother with fox ears and a tail, walking beside a handsome father with long white hair. The family strolled casually, chatting as if nothing in the world could touch them.

The assassins readied their weapons. They leaped down, targeting the children first—intending to make the parents suffer and scream as they watched their little ones' throats slit.

"Hm?"

"What?"

The father and mother turned toward the sudden attackers. The assassins seized the son and daughter; cursed knives pressed against their small necks.

"Don't move."

"Your kids are done for..."

"If you want them to live, hand over everything you've got!"

"..."

"..."

The parents exchanged a brief glance before stepping forward.

"Try it."

"Go ahead. Kill them."

"...?!"

A cold shiver ran down the assassins' spines. Never had they expected such a response.

The boldest of them laughed maniacally, pressing the knife harder against the girl's throat to fulfill his threat.

"Then don't cry later!"

CRASH!

The blade shattered into fragments before it could even nick her skin.

"...Huh?"

He looked down in confusion. The girl, with her angelic face, suddenly changed. Her features split apart, revealing writhing tentacles lined with razor-sharp jaws.

"A-Ahh...! AAAAAHHHH!"

The moment he realized she was no ordinary child, she engulfed him, swallowing him whole. Her multiple jaws crushed his body into pulp.

The remaining four assassins stared in horror. Then the boy, held by one of them, seized the man's wrist.

"Bye."

Black and red flames erupted, consuming the assassin in searing agony. His screams echoed as his body charred to crispy black and crumbled to ash on the ground.

"Okay, who's next?"

"You, right?"

The boy and girl turned on the assassins with terrifying calm. Two tried to flee but found themselves frozen in place.

The father simply watched them. By doing so, he halted every movement in their bodies.

Every blood cell in their veins refused to circulate.

It was utterly surreal.

"I guess you've never fought Vampires before... Well, it's not like we are normal ones either."

The man closed his hand. One assassin exploded into a gory mist.

"Well, that was refreshing in a sense. We haven't killed in a while since we arrived here," his wife said with a gentle smile. "Right, Noah?"

"I guess so, Iris," her husband replied. "They were scum, so it doesn't make me feel bad at all either."

The blood was quickly absorbed by the children, who were a little hungry for a small snack. The humans of this world were all delicious due to their cosmic energy.

But since arriving and becoming part human themselves, their bloodthirst had lessened enough that they could sustain themselves on ordinary food alone.

Still, in situations like this—when assassins nobody would miss came after them—it was ideal to let the children feed on the cosmic-energy-rich blood of this world's inhabitants.

"Come on, Dante, Eleanora. We're getting closer. Hurry," Iris called, urging them to rejoin.

The two children ran back, their mouths smeared with blood, which they licked away adorably. Iris pulled out a handkerchief and gently cleaned their faces.

"You're all grown up but still act like feral children sometimes, huh?"

"Sorry, I got too carried away..."

"The smell of blood got me acting a little wild."

"Hm..." Noah gazed into the distance. "I can already see the entrance. Just a few more steps. Come on. We're almost there."

"Ugh, can you tell me again why we're here at all, Harumi?"

"Because this is a secret infiltration mission given to us by our parents, Erika."

A young Dhampir and a Werewolf wandered through the forest near Mount Takao. Behind them walked three other vampires and werewolves, high-ranking members of their respective clans.

They had been dispatched after stealing invitation letters from some random thugs they encountered. Seizing the opportunity, they decided to attempt infiltrating Chaos Gate.

Why had their leaders sent their precious daughters on such a dangerous mission? Both girls were now old enough to begin participating in serious operations.

Their parents considered this task suitable, especially with three seasoned veterans accompanying them. They had also been equipped with teleportation artifacts in case something truly overwhelming occurred.

"But do we have to do it?" Erika sighed. "I'm still processing that Matsuo became all edgy and doesn't want to talk to us... And Frank! Where is he anyway? His family said he went on a trip? To where? He's been missing for a week!"

"He's not dead. The bond we made is still strong," Harumi replied. "He's... I think he's going through some things. I just hope we can see him again one day."

"Bond?!" Erika asked, raising an eyebrow. "W-What do you mean by bonds here?"

"Frank drank a bit of my blood before—not to turn him, but it created a bond," Harumi explained. "So I can feel where he is and if he's safe..."

"Huh~ I had no idea you two were this close! Wow!" Erika teased, bumping her hip against Harumi's.

"I-It's nothing like that..." Harumi sighed. "Haaa... I wonder where Kireina is though?"

"Hm, well, she was so strong that I don't think she's suffering or anything..." Erika said, shrugging. "Well, wherever she is, does it matter anyway? Oh! Look! The cave's over there!"

The three vampires and werewolves called to the girls. For now, they had to separate—their missions, though similar, remained independent.

Harumi walked with three striking vampires. One of them couldn't truly be called a vampire but had been adopted into their ranks nonetheless.

"I know you want to stay with your friend, Harumi, but it's time we move on. We're already here," said a slender lady with long black hair and crimson eyes. She wore a flowing black dress woven from shadows and a wide-brimmed hat adorned with feathers. A thin pipe rested between her lips. Known as Lady Shadow, this enigmatic Vampiress had lived since the Victorian Era. "Our missions, although similar, are still independent. I doubt your mother would be happy to know you're cooperating with the werewolf clan."

"Yeah, you shouldn't stay with them. I dislike dogs. They smell," a large, muscular giant rumbled. His body and skin were stitched together from various parts. His face remained stoic and expressionless, large screws protruding from his neck and head, and his eyes glowed red. He was none other than Doctor Victor's first creation: Frankenstein.

"Come on, Frankenstein, you can't say that about werewolves, can you?" laughed a slender, handsome young vampire with long red hair and purple eyes. He winked at Harumi. He was Dan, a jester-like Vampire. "They can be such adorable puppies sometimes."

"Ugh, why do you all hate werewolves so much?" Harumi sighed.
