Chapter 4608: Rejection
’So tired...’ Luxa’s Godly Sense reached everyone.
Rean held her up with a smile. "You can go back to sleep if you want. We have plenty of time to talk later."
Luxa shook her head and jumped back onto Rean’s shoulder. ’I’m good. Need Godly Energy.’
Rean immediately passed her a Godly Beast Crystal. "Then eat this one."
Luxa happily took it with her energy and began chewing on it piece by piece. ’Happiness!’
"Ahem..." Aurundi’s lightning crackled impatiently around his core. He had been waiting long enough. "Luxa, that thing you did with Rean... what was that?"
Luxa looked at him for a moment before thinking back to what had happened during the fight against Doluno’s group. ’Ah! What happened back then?!’
Everyone felt helpless, but Rean used his own Godly Sense to explain everything that had happened. Naturally, he wanted answers as well.
’Oh! So we won!’ Luxa focused pretty much only on the part where Rean explained that they had defeated Doluno, though.
"Luxa," Aurundi said more directly, "how did you suddenly change into that energy form and enter Rean’s body?"
’Hum...’ Luxa tilted her head to the side as she tried to remember. ’I... felt strange. At that moment, I just wanted to help Rean, but I also knew I wasn’t strong enough to stop Doluno. So I thought about how good it would be if I could give my energy to Rean instead.’
She continued thinking for a while before her eyes seemed to brighten with understanding. ’Then... it was as if something clicked inside me. I could feel myself and Rean as if we were the same Yang Energy. I was just following that feeling... and it turned out like that.’
Luxa then looked at Rean accusingly. ’You used way too much of my energy at once! As soon as I ran out, that feeling disappeared, and our Yang Energies weren’t the same anymore. I couldn’t even move!’
"Sorry, sorry..." Rean apologized with a bitter smile. How the hell would he know how much energy he could use there?
Roan was interested as well, and he was almost certain Lunelle had gone through the same process. In fact, Lunelle’s case was probably even more straightforward. She simply wanted to protect Roan, without putting much thought into anything else.
That gave Aurundi the opening he had been waiting for. "Luxa... would you be able to do the same with me?"
Luxa looked at Aurundi, sensing the Yang Energy around his core. Her expression immediately twisted. ’Bleh... disgusting.’
Lightning exploded around Aurundi’s core for a moment. He had to force himself to calm down so he wouldn’t kill Luxa right there. "Ahem... if you ignore this ’disgusting’ feeling, would you be able to merge with me instead?"
Luxa seemed to think about it. ’I don’t know. I remember the feeling, so... maybe? It’s just... I don’t think it will work. You and I are lacking something.’
"It might be the connection Rean mentioned," Celis said. "After all, his Yang Energy was the reason Luxa was born."
"Can we at least give it a try?" Aurundi insisted.
Luxa looked toward Rean, who nodded back at her. "It would be a suitable test. Nothing good will come from an ability that you don’t even understand."
’Bu-But his Yang Energy smells so bad...’ Luxa complained.
"Wh-What about mine?" Lukay asked. He was also a Voltari, and his curiosity got the better of him.
’Same thing.’
Luxa didn’t hesitate in the slightest.
"Is there anyone you’ve seen whose Yang Energy isn’t disgusting besides Rean?" Kentucky asked.
’Yours isn’t too bad,’ Luxa answered. ’Rean is still better.’
Kentucky immediately turned toward Aurundi with a proud expression. "See? I’m not disgusting."
Aurundi’s lightning flickered around his core. "What exactly are you trying to say?"
However, he quickly returned to the topic at hand. "No, forget it. Luxa, you won’t mind at least giving it a try, right?"
Luxa nodded. ’Alright, I will give it a try.’
"Good!" Aurundi’s lightning brightened with excitement. "Let me know when you recover enough to try it out."
’I can try it right now. I only fell because Rean used too much energy,’ Luxa explained. ’If you don’t use too much of my energy, it should be fine.’
Aurundi certainly wasn’t going to waste such an opportunity.
The fox jumped from Rean’s shoulder to the floor of the airplane while Aurundi’s core floated in front of her. Luxa then touched it and focused on the same feeling she had experienced before, and, surprisingly, Aurundi could actually feel his Yang Energy interacting with Luxa’s.
However...
*Bzzz.*
*Crack!*
*Arrrrgghhhhh!!!*
Aurundi’s core immediately cracked as a tremendous scream escaped him. It felt as though something had tried to rip apart his core, soul, and energy all at once. He could actually feel what was happening. His own Yang Energy was turning against his body.
No... it wasn’t exactly turning against him. It was being pulled apart, and as a result, everything connected to it was being dragged down as well.
It was being devoured!
*Bang!*
A burst of energy suddenly erupted between Luxa and Aurundi, but only Aurundi suffered from the impact. His core was sent flying and slammed against the wall of the airplane.
"Aurundi!" Rean immediately rushed to his side. "Shit!"
’Life Style, Instant Recovery!’
A burst of Light Element entered Aurundi’s core, and although the process was slow, Rean immediately began repairing the crack. Healing Spirits was much, much harder for Rean due to their special constitutions.
Aurundi himself had already lost consciousness.
Everyone stared at the scene with stunned expressions before slowly turning toward Luxa. "What happened?"
Luxa looked down at her paw, seemingly confused by what she was feeling. A large amount of Aurundi’s Yang Energy remained in her body. ’It... It wasn’t on purpose. His Yang Energy immediately fought against my own, so I just reacted. My body ended up eating it.’
Then...
*Blehh...*
Luxa suddenly vomited onto the floor. Pieces of the Godly Crystal she had just eaten spilled everywhere, but that wasn’t all. Some of Aurundi’s Yang Energy was mixed into the disgusting mess as well.
It was obvious that Luxa’s body—or more likely, her bloodline—absolutely hated Aurundi’s Yang Energy.
"Ah!"
Aurundi suddenly regained consciousness. "What happened?"
Rean gave him a bitter smile. "Senior, we told you it would be dangerous, didn’t we?"
*Ugh!*
Only then did Aurundi notice the tremendous pain in his soul and the crack running through his core. "This... is going to take some time to heal."
Rean sighed. "You were lucky I was here. Without me, I doubt your soul and core would have held together."
Aurundi knew Rean was telling the truth. "Yes... I suppose that’s the price for my own greed. I just had to know."
Rean nodded before explaining what Luxa had told them.
"Yes, that makes sense," Aurundi said after hearing the explanation. He then remembered the moment when he had tried to merge with Luxa. "She wasn’t the only one. I couldn’t control my own Yang Energy either. I don’t know if a type of energy can have feelings, but for a moment there, it truly felt like my Yang Energy was terrified. It reacted out of despair... or at least, that’s what it felt like. Maybe I’m going crazy here..."
Roan shook his head. "You’re not crazy. However, you’d better not try it again. In fact, Rean and I will have to think twice before attempting this ourselves again. For now, let’s return to Besgol."
Aurundi agreed immediately. "Yes, let’s go back."
He was about to settle down when something suddenly occurred to him. "Wait! Your plan had Rean separate from you, fly ahead, and prepare a trap for the Natak Region Experts, right?"
"So?" Rean and the others asked.
Aurundi’s lightning crackled as he turned toward Rean. "You had weeks to work on your array, but Besgol is only five days from here. Why the hell didn’t you go to Besgol first and ask for help?"
Roan snorted. "And scare our prey away? I would never let that happen."
