Chapter 3948: Caladara’s Wrong Idea

Ximao quickly continued. "Yes, that’s what I thought too. We can’t use the same rules on them."

"Of course we can’t," Caladara agreed. "In this kind of case, we must kill them straight away. No need for observations. No need for anything. Why haven’t you eliminated them instead?"

"Because someone is obviously protecting them," Ximao said. "Without the Judgemental Eye, we wouldn’t even have noticed this. This kind of cover, the energies of beings from outside the empire. Only someone like you, Senior Caladara, could hide it. I... I wanted to use them to perhaps find my way up."

"So that’s how it is!" Caladara finally understood Ximao’s motives. "Do you think it is that easy? Let’s say the one who hid their traits is indeed someone at my level. Do you think he could bring you up? I might as well tell you this, I definitely can’t."

Rean shrugged. "Sorry, but we can’t talk about it. Our memories are sealed by the same person, so there is nothing we can do about it."

"Oh?" Caladara liked the challenge. "Then I might as well give it a try."

She pulled Rean over, and her Golden Power immediately entered his body. She was trying to Soul Search Rean right there and then, caring little for the damage she could cause to Rean’s soul.

Caladara had a smile on her face at first, but slowly, it disappeared. It didn’t matter how she tried it. She simply couldn’t extract anything whatsoever from Rean’s soul. "What kind of seal is this? I’ve never seen one this strong. Is this even a seal?"

She pushed Rean away, pulling Roan next. Then she did the same to Celis and Kentucky, but the results were the same. She got nothing from them. In fact, she couldn’t harm their souls at all, such was the protection their souls had.

Naturally, it was the Celestial Soul System that barred all attempts. As long as it was harmful, no one could touch the twins’ souls.

Caladara was forced to give up. She could easily kill them here, but that wouldn’t give her the answer she was seeking. Even worse, she got the wrong idea. ’Something of this level... this is dangerous.’

In her head, whoever put those seals there was someone she shouldn’t easily anger. If she just knew the truth... Of course, the twins’ group wouldn’t tell her anything.

Caladara turned in Ximao’s direction, releasing him from her suppression. Perhaps Ximao’s actions actually were the correct ones. "What do you know about them?"

Ximao immediately shared all the information he had about the twins’ group’s past.

"What a bunch of bullshit!" Caladara immediately recognized all the errors. "Born in the Surute Region of the Panpasin Country? Ha! You guys truly did a good job covering your tracks. The tribe where you were ’captured’ was destroyed, how convenient. Pretty much no clues remain anymore after this Green Cluster war or whatever."

Caladara knew the rules. Outsiders, regardless of whether they are Balance Breakers or not, were to be killed. She would have done that already, had it not been for that ’seal’ in the twins’ group’s souls. "Speak, what is your objective? Is it also something the seal prevents you from talking?"

Roan shook his head in response. "We have no objectives. At least, no objectives related to the Werdlem Empire. We were brought to this place against our will, and all the work we have been doing so far is for the sake of leaving this place."

"Leaving this place?" Caldara expected many answers, but not that one. As mentioned in the past, outsiders invading the Werdlem Empire is nothing new. It happened from time to time. There was no doubt that from the time the twins arrived in the Werdlem Empire to now, a few others likely entered the empire as well. Yet, it was truly rare for them to manage to make it to a universe ranked in the A category. The reason, obviously, is the outsider traits they carry.

The twins’ group surpassed that hurdle, got someone influential enough to cover their traits, and arrived here. All of that so they could leave? "Aren’t you going in the wrong direction? If you want to leave the empire, you shouldn’t be moving to the central area."

"It’s all about strength," Kentucky commented. "Without enough power, how can we leave the Empire’s Bubble? Look at our level, we are just Space-Time Realm experts. Do you think we could break out of the bubble? Also, even if we could, then what? We have no idea where we are in the Great Void, so we couldn’t go home once we left, either. So, on top of power, we also need information. That’s why we are here, making a name for ourselves."

"Enough, Kentucky," Roan intervened. "There is no need for you to tell her more information about us."

Caladara couldn’t confirm whether they were telling the truth or not. However, she was absolutely sure that their levels were truly at the Space-Time Realm Middle Stage. That’s something she couldn’t understand herself.

Yes, outsiders invade the empire from time to time, but they never come here with such a low level. The twins didn’t know this. Outsiders are usually in the Celestial Realm, or, at the very least, Divinity Realm experts, but the Divinity Realm ones were helped by Celestial Realm Experts to get inside. They had to be that strong in case they needed to leave the bubble.

And that wasn’t all. Just having the cultivation wasn’t enough. If you came inside, you’d better have a plan of escaping, as the power of Divinity and Celestial Realm Experts was still not enough to break out of the Empire’s Bubble.

So, it all came down to their comment that they were brought here against their will. Why would anyone go through the trouble of breaking into the Werdlem Empire’s Bubble just to throw a few ants in there? A few ants that didn’t even want to be there! Whoever brought the twins’ group here... were they expecting this group to cause trouble over time? That seemed like a very idiotic approach.

Why? Simple! If you want someone to grow strong in the Empire, you might as well invade it and recruit some kid from the faraway Universes in the Werdlem Empire. That kid would indeed have the traits of someone born here, so he would never be caught. You just had to support that kid from the shadows, and if you are strong enough to enter the Empire’s Bubble, you definitely can help this kid reach a very high level in the future.

Using the twins’ group, who obviously have the traits of the outsiders, didn’t make sense. If not for that cover, they would have been caught a long time ago once they approached the higher-ranked Universes. The hurdles were just way too inconvenient. So, yes, this approach was very idiotic...

...or so it should have been. However, Caladara didn’t forget what she just saw. This small group of four was caught by the Judgemental Eye, which ended up bringing Caladara here. Their strength was not something you would find anywhere, even in the Rank A Universes. They literally jumped over an entire Realm to attack her just a minute ago.

Was it the trick behind all of this? Their potential? The kind of talent that you would never find in a million years? Four of them? If that were the case, then the Werdlem Empire’s higher-ranked Universes would indeed be the best place for them to develop.

Caladara was in a dilemma: kill them and anger whoever was trying to protect them, or let them go and pretend she saw nothing. Of course, once again, there wasn’t anyone really protecting the twins’ group. Caladara just thought that there was someone because of the so-called ’seal’ in their memories and souls, which was actually the system’s power.

First of all, they said they didn’t want to be here and wanted to leave. Were they telling the truth? Caladara would be an idiot if she simply believed their words. All she could truly believe at the moment was their strength and the seal in their souls. Those were the only concrete facts she had... although the seal part was wrong.

"Hum... I guess this is worth a try." She pointed her finger at them, and once more, four rays of Golden Light entered the twins’ group’s bodies.

It wasn’t something harmful this time, though. It sank inside, disappearing a moment later.

Seeing that everything went smoothly, Caladara nodded in satisfaction. "Hehe! Rather than look for an answer, I might as well wait for the answer to come for me."
