Chapter 4498: Fireworks

It was a conservative plan. Nonetheless, everyone followed it. They increased the amount of time they spent going out to fight Godly Creatures so they could adapt faster, but they still avoided contact with the cultivators of this place as much as possible.

They could do something like kidnapping a lower-level expert, but considering that Coyui was stronger and had already told them everything he knew, there wasn’t much point in doing that.

Rean and Thery estimated that they would need another twenty to thirty years. Considering they had already spent ten years there, they should be done by around the thirtieth or fortieth year. And so, the years went by without much to speak about. On top of the ten years they had already spent, another ten went by in a flash. Unfortunately, it would take another ten years at the very least, probably more for Thery and Arcis, who were adapting slightly slower.

Twenty-six years had passed since they arrived in Woster Prison. Normally, it would take another four years before anyone reached the 70% adaptation mark. However, something unexpected happened.

*Rawr!*

*Crunch, crunch, crunch...*

*Gulp!*

Rean smiled as the fox swallowed another Godly Creature’s Crystal. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary so far. He had gone out to hunt with her countless times during these years, after all. They had long since developed a comfortable routine whenever they went hunting together. Rean would deal with anything dangerous that got too close while the fox focused on hunting and absorbing the crystals. At this point, seeing her devour another crystal was hardly worth a second thought.

"Alright, time to go back. Come here, girl."

The fox jumped onto his shoulder, and Rean prepared to leave. But then...

*Dum-dum... Dum-dum... Dum-dum...*

"Hm?"

Rean looked at the fox on his shoulder as he suddenly felt her body pulsating. At first, he thought she was simply reacting to the energy she had just absorbed. However, the sensation quickly became stronger, and he could even feel her body trembling slightly against him.

Her fur began shifting between its pure white color and the red-golden fur she usually displayed during a fight. Before long, a terrifying change followed.

*Vushua!*

Her body suddenly burst with the same red-golden flames, but they were several times more intense than anything she had released until now. Rean was forced to take her off his shoulder, as even he couldn’t resist the heat.

Once she hit the ground, the sphere of red-golden flames continued to expand, and so did the temperature surrounding it. Rean quickly retreated several steps, his expression becoming serious as he watched the phenomenon.

He couldn’t sense a normal breakthrough like those of cultivators. There was no obvious surge of cultivation aura, no familiar fluctuation of energy, and no clear indication of what was actually changing inside her body.

That made the situation even more mysterious.

Fortunately, Rean was out hunting. If this had happened inside the vault, she might have completely melted their only Teleport Array out of Woster. Worse, the sudden eruption of energy could have damaged the airplane or even forced everyone to abandon their hiding place.

’Roan, Celis, Kentucky, are you seeing this?’ Rean immediately connected to the others.

’Yes,’ Roan answered with a nod, narrowing his eyes. He was inside the airplane with Celis, while Kentucky was flying somewhere else.

’This is going to attract some attention,’ Celis commented. ’We never hunt too far from the Ashen Hills, and the traffic of cultivators around here isn’t exactly low.’

’Any idea what is happening to her?’ Roan asked.

Kentucky was the first to answer. ’I can only think of one thing... She’s having a breakthrough.’

Rean and Celis nodded. Considering how long they had been helping her grow stronger, it made sense that she would eventually have a breakthrough. Not only that, but the fact that it had taken her almost thirty years to reach this point was actually rather slow. But, at the same time, her strength had been increasing even without a breakthrough, so much so that the twins’ group had begun wondering if her race even had breakthroughs at all.

Still, the timing wasn’t entirely surprising. For almost three decades, the fox had constantly hunted Godly Creatures and absorbed their Godly Crystals. She had also spent all that time in an environment saturated with an absurd concentration of Godly Pressure. Whatever her cultivation method was, there was no doubt she had accumulated an enormous amount of energy.

There was one thing the twins’ group had never managed to perceive: the fox’s cultivation. It didn’t matter if they touched her and sent their Godly Senses inside. They simply couldn’t detect any kind of cultivation within her.

They could tell that her energy was stored in her golden and red eyes, but that would mean she had two cores. The problem was that even Celis admitted that although her eyes stored the energy, they didn’t really look like cores. At least, they weren’t cores like the ones he and Kentucky had possessed in the past.

Furthermore, her eyes weren’t crystals like those of Godly Creatures. That only added to their confusion regarding her cultivation method. Last but not least, her own bloodline always consumed some of the Godly Energy she absorbed before the remainder could reach her eyes.

At the end of the day, they simply couldn’t tell what realm she was in. Or perhaps it wasn’t even correct to call it realms at all.

Rean took a few steps back, staring at the giant ball of red and golden flames. The flames continued to burn violently, but their expansion had finally slowed. For a moment, Rean wondered whether he should approach her again. However, the heat alone made it obvious that doing so would be pointless. He could only wait and observe.

’Kentucky, bring Celis here. He will be able to feel what is happening inside better than any of us,’ Rean asked.

’Alright!’ Kentucky immediately turned around and shot back toward the airplane. It would take him at least an hour to arrive with Celis, though.

Rean continued watching the fox in silence. He couldn’t help but wonder what kind of changes she was going through. Perhaps this wasn’t even a breakthrough at all. Her existence had always been full of mysteries, and this was simply another one to add to the list.

"Hm?"

Suddenly, Rean’s eyes turned toward another direction. He immediately took flight, and soon, he saw it: a group of cultivators rapidly making their way toward his location.

Rean’s expression became slightly awkward. He had already expected that the fox’s breakthrough would attract attention, but knowing that and seeing cultivators actually rushing toward them so fast were two very different things.

"Well, it isn’t exactly easy to hide such big fireworks."
