Chapter 4509: No Touch
Going back an hour or so...
Near the borders between the Central and West Districts, one could find the Egoslau Hotel, one of the most famous hotels in Dlaval City. The hotel alone had over a hundred floors, and although it wasn’t the only building of such a height, it still caught a lot of attention due to how heavily ornamented it looked from the outside.
In Dlaval, power mattered most, so to keep such a luxurious hotel running without anyone causing trouble, it showed that its backers were all prominent experts.
Everyone knew that if you caused trouble in Egoslau, even if you were a Law God, you would most likely have terrible days going forward. There were plenty of places in Dlaval where strength alone could solve problems, but Egoslau was one of the few places where even the strongest cultivators would think twice before acting recklessly.
Naturally, in such a dangerous environment like Woster, such security was worth a lot, so the fees to stay in that hotel were sky-high.
It was exactly this hotel where Rean, Flugel, and Lukay had just arrived. They went to the counter, meeting one of the workers behind it. "Hello, friend. We would like a room for the three of us."
The worker bowed respectfully. "Absolutely, good sir. Will it be one room for each of you, or are you staying in the same one?"
"The same one is fine," Rean nodded.
"Very well," the worker continued. "Any preferences? We have rooms for all kinds of guests, so let us know if there is anything in particular you would like."
"The type of room matters not," Rean said. "All I need is for the room to be on the very last floor or at least near it."
"That’s definitely not a problem," the man nodded. "However, this good sir must understand that such rooms are the best in the house. The price is definitely as high as the floor itself."
"Not a problem," Rean smiled. "So, how much is it?"
"For such a room, we charge one Godly Predator Crystal per week," he finally answered.
Rean couldn’t help but take a deep breath. He truly didn’t expect that a simple room could cost all that. Nonetheless, he quickly recovered, bringing out four Godly Predator Crystals from his Spatial Ring.
"Here you go. I would like to rent that room for four weeks."
The worker was quite surprised. Rean, Flugel, and Lukay didn’t seem that well off. Yet, Rean had casually produced four Godly Predator Crystals for a hotel room. The worker immediately became even more respectful. "I will arrange your room straightaway, good sirs."
A few minutes later, Rean’s group got to the room, followed by a servant of the hotel. Rean went to check outside, looking over the city from the enormous windows before nodding in satisfaction. "Yes, this will do. This will do nicely."
Rean could see the city extending far into the distance. For him, that was the most important attribute, especially since he wasn’t renting the hotel for his own stay. The higher they were, the more of the city they could observe, which was exactly what he wanted. Or, to be more specific, the fewer obstacles would be in their field of view.
Then, he turned to the servant. "You can leave now. Make sure that no one enters this room without our permission. Also, there is no need to check on us during our stay. We have everything we need with us already."
The servant nodded and bowed. "Understood, sirs. I’ll take my leave now."
Finally, with the servant gone, Rean and Flugel nodded at each other. "Shall we?"
*Zush!*
As one of the most expensive rooms, it was obviously enormous. The fact that Godly Sense and Celestial Sense didn’t work in Woster made it even more attractive, as the room could be used without worrying about anyone outside noticing what they were doing through their senses.
That said, Rean brought his airplane out right in the center of the room.
"I’m going to put the concealing arrays around," said Flugel.
Without wasting time, he brought out many materials and began his work. He carefully arranged the materials around the room, making sure that the concealment would cover everything they intended to do inside.
Rean, too, didn’t stay still. His airplane was constantly upgraded by himself, so he had already made it quite modular. Because of that, his own work didn’t take up much of his time.
Part after part of the airplane’s network beacon was removed and brought outside. Just ten minutes later, the airplane was already stripped of it.
Following that, Rean sent his airplane back inside his Spatial Ring and began to reassemble the beacon in the middle of the room instead. The beacon used the airplane’s energy source arrays to work, so Rean was forced to build a simple array right there just to feed it for the time being.
Finally, as Flugel finished setting up the concealing arrays, Rean finished his work on the beacon.
The beacon worked in the same way as the Besgol Network. It generated a signal that could travel very long distances. As long as the RCs were within that beacon’s range, they could communicate with any other RC inside that same area of effect. Since Woster’s lack of functioning Celestial and Godly Senses made communication considerably more troublesome, having a stable network like this was going to be extremely useful.
"Phew... it is done," Rean said with a smile.
*Tun!*
Sure enough, Lukay, Flugel, and Rean’s RCs immediately responded to the newly acquired signal.
In the very next seconds, a call arrived.
-Seems like it worked.-
Rean smiled, using his mind to answer the call. ’Yes, Senior Arcis. Everyone should be in range. Also, you can use this network to find the exact location of anyone else with our RCs.’
-Good,- Thery joined the call as well. -We will make good use of it. Just make sure it stays up.-
’It shouldn’t be a problem,’ Rean assured. ’For the next four weeks, that is.’
Rean also contacted Roan and Kentucky, and the two confirmed everything was fine. Only then did Rean turn back to Flugel and Lukay. "Alright, that’s about it."
Flugel nodded. "Good. Let’s get out of here. We still have many vaults to investigate."
"The closest one is actually only a kilometer from here," Lukay said, checking the information they bought. "It is in front of a guild, from the looks of it. So they have guilds here too, uh?"
"We might as well check it. Anyway, let’s go," Flugel said, and their group left.
—
Meanwhile, somewhere else...
Roan had a reason to act alone this time. It wasn’t that he wanted to carry out his own investigation and had no objective in mind. Instead, ever since he arrived in Woster, he had been feeling something stirring somewhere within the city.
It was something subtle. Something that seemed to react to him.
The only ones who knew about it were Rean, Kentucky, and Celis, so they didn’t get in his way either.
At first, Roan had simply assumed that it was his imagination. Woster was an incredibly strange place, after all. The isolation of the prison, the absence of Celestial and Godly Senses, and the overwhelming Godly Pressure could easily make someone more sensitive to things they would normally ignore.
But the sensation hadn’t disappeared.
If anything, it had gradually become stronger.
Roan walked through the crowd, not attracting anyone’s attention. The paths were really large, which made sense considering just how many cultivators were passing through them every minute.
Experts of all kinds walked past one another without giving each other much thought. In a place like Dlaval, unless someone deliberately revealed their strength, there was little reason to pay attention to a random cultivator.
Roan preferred it that way.
He continued forward for some time, following that strange sensation without showing anything on his face. He didn’t know where it was coming from, but something deep within his Yin Energy kept reacting whenever he moved in a particular direction.
Then, at an intersection, he stopped.
"Here it is..."
Roan’s eyes narrowed.
On the right side of that intersection, there was a stone pillar.
Nothing about it looked particularly eye-catching. It was only three meters high, and the stone itself looked old enough that it could have been standing there for countless years. The marks on its surface had long since worn out, making it impossible to read whatever had originally been carved into it.
There was no aura coming from it that an ordinary cultivator could detect. There was no powerful energy fluctuation. There wasn’t even anything particularly strange about its shape. It was simply... there.
And yet, Roan could feel it. The moment he approached, the sensation inside his body became noticeably stronger.
He stopped directly in front of the pillar and examined it carefully. ’Why are you reacting to me?’
Roan reached out. His fingers were just about to touch the ancient stone when—
"I wouldn’t touch it if I were you. Unless you are attempting suicide, that is." A voice suddenly echoed from the side.
Roan’s hand stopped in midair.
His expression remained unchanged, but his eyes immediately shifted toward the source of the voice.
