Chapter 4512: See Ourselves
Roan and Vancuger kept moving for a few minutes until Roan was certain no one had followed them. Only then did they stop in a back alley. It wasn’t deserted, but very few cultivators seemed to pass through there, making it a good enough place for them to talk without attracting too much attention.
Roan briefly looked around as they stopped, making sure there was no one nearby who might be interested in their conversation before finally turning his attention back to Vancuger.
"So... how were you able to survive after touching the pillar?" Vancuger finally asked again.
Roan shook his head in response. "Let’s just say that my soul is very good, so the pillar wasn’t strong enough to pull it out of my body."
Vancuger’s mouth twitched. Even Law Gods couldn’t resist the pillar, so how could Roan possibly do so? He was certain the reason was something else, but it was obvious that Roan didn’t intend to explain it.
"If you don’t want to talk, so be it. In any case, I only followed you to give you a warning. You caught quite some attention earlier. You’d better lay low for a while. People around here aren’t exactly known for forgetting when someone unexpectedly survives something like that."
Of course, Vancuger had followed Roan because Roan wanted him to. "I’ll deal with whatever comes for me. For now, I want to ask you something. Have you ever seen a navy blue and golden rock with a soft texture before?"
Vancuger was completely lost. "Navy Blue and Golden Rock? I’ve never heard of anything like that, let alone see one. First of all, how can a rock be soft?"
Roan wasn’t surprised by the answer. He just wanted to confirm it anyway. "Alright, what about Navy Blue Energy Threads? They probably spread all over Dlaval City and into the Godly Creatures’ Territories."
"What are you even talking about? Is this related to the pillar somehow?" Vancuger asked, his confusion growing.
"Probably," Roan nodded. "I sent my Godly Sense inside it, and what I saw was this rock I’m talking about."
There was no point in hiding that fact. Roan had only asked about it after touching the pillar, so it was obvious that whatever he had seen was something he discovered because of the pillar. Besides, Vancuger had already proven himself useful by knowing a considerable amount about the pillar and the legends surrounding it.
"I’m still amazed you are talking right now after going suicidal," Vancuger answered. "Anyway, Navy Blue Energy Threads? Maybe some races have attacks that create such things, no? Are you looking for someone who can do that, perhaps?"
"No..." Roan pondered for a moment. All he had seen was a closed space and the threads connected to the womb, disappearing into the distance. He had no idea what they led to or where they originated. There was also the possibility that they didn’t even belong to the same thing he had seen inside the pillar. "Forget about it."
Roan turned around and began to walk away, apparently having no intention of continuing the conversation.
But then, Vancuger suddenly thought of something.
"Wait... Navy Blue Energy Threads... Could it be related to the Ghost of Woster?"
Roan immediately stopped and turned his head. "What did you say?"
"The Ghost of Woster. Don’t tell me you don’t even know that," Vancuger explained.
Roan nodded this time. "Obviously, I heard about it. Anyone who tries to go too far will eventually meet the Ghost of Woster and get killed by it. Cultivators nearing the end of their lifespan or stuck at the Peak Stage of the Law God Realm often try to leave this place by going far away. But as far as I know, all of them died to the ghost."
"Good. I found it strange you knew nothing about the pillar. At least you know about the ghost." Vancuger then entered the main topic. "Anyway, there are many legends about the Ghost of Woster. The main one is the story you just told me. But another story I heard is that the Ghost of Woster uses thread-like attacks, entangling its victims. It just so happens that those threads are blue, maybe even navy blue."
Roan looked in the direction of the city’s exit, his mind already going far beyond it. His thoughts connected one thing to another: "Death... Yin Energy... Souls... Threads... Ghost of Woster... Luxa... Fire... Yang Energy... Rean..."
A theory began to form in his mind. Luxa was awakened by Rean’s presence. Or, to be more specific, by his extremely pure Yang Energy. The strange womb where Luxa had been found had also been connected to countless threads, although those threads had behaved differently from what Roan had just seen. Now there was that Navy Blue and Golden Womb, something that seemed strangely similar to Luxa’s origin and was connected to those mysterious threads.
’Could it be?’
Vancuger was completely lost by Roan’s muttering. "What are you talking about?"
Roan shook his head. "Here, take it."
*Zush!*
Vancuger caught what Roan threw at him, and his eyes immediately widened when he saw what it was. It was a Godly Crystal, but it wasn’t a simple one.
"GODLY PREDATOR CRYSTAL!!!"
Roan began to walk away again. "That’s your reward. Judging by the speed you moved, you are a Low-Level Aura God, aren’t you? This Predator Crystal should prove very beneficial to you. Make sure to use it wisely and don’t let others know you have it. This city has no laws, so if someone finds that a puny Low-Level Aura God has a Predator Crystal, you will receive quite a few unwanted visitors."
Vancuger felt a chill run down his back and immediately threw the crystal into his own Spatial Ring. He had never expected to receive such a big reward in this place, especially from someone he had only met a short while ago. In fact, he couldn’t help wondering if Roan even understood just how valuable such a crystal was to someone at his cultivation level.
"Thanks... Are you sure you are giving it to me? I’m not giving it back."
Roan didn’t even bother answering. He simply left the alley and entered the wide street, soon disappearing into the crowd.
—
’Celis.’
Roan’s appearance changed with Rean’s Body Transformation Skill as he contacted Celis through the soul connection. He then explained what he had seen before asking, ’Those threads, do you think you could find them?’
Celis was following Thery and Arcis as he answered. ’Why would you want that?’
’Because Sister Orb detected remnants of the Glogau Great Void Echo,’ Roan explained. ’Unfortunately, the system couldn’t extract it.’
They obviously knew that Glogau was Thery’s Great Void.
Celis pondered for a moment before contacting Sister Orb and including her in the conversation. ’Sister Orb, why did the system fail?’
[It wasn’t really a failure per se, but more a case of having nothing there to absorb in the first place,] she explained. [The system only detected the remnants, not the energy itself. Most likely, it is present where Roan saw the Navy Blue and Golden Womb. However, it was obviously not in the pillar, so my system was helpless.]
Rean joined the conversation as well. ’Do you think there is another fox inside?’
’They should at least be connected, no?’ Kentucky asked as well.
Roan didn’t seem to care about what could be inside, though. ’Whatever is inside doesn’t matter. We need to find where it is.’
’You seem to have a theory, Roan,’ Rean pointed out.
’I do,’ Roan confirmed. ’The Ghost. Don’t you think it is strange that so many cultivators know about it? Everyone says it kills anyone who gets too far. If it kills everyone, then who saw it and came back to tell the story?’
Rean immediately understood where Roan was going. ’This story is being purposely spread.’
’Exactly.’ Roan agreed. ’The question is: by whom and why?’
’So, what do you want to do?’ Celis asked.
Roan pondered for a moment. ’Seems like we need to see this ghost ourselves.’
