Chapter 5006: The Scale II
His voice dropped to something approaching solemnity.
"It is impossible. The door simply does not open for those who lack the key, and the key is not found among the Four Aspects no matter how thoroughly one masters them. Chaos may grant tremendous power within its domain. Paradox may permit contradictions that reshape local reality. Existence may build Civilizations spanning Primordial Realms. The First Tongue may rewrite the very language through which reality expresses itself."
He shook his head slowly, crystallized features shifting with the motion.
"But none of these authorities, magnificent as they may be, can carry a being past THE Second Scale. For that journey, one requires something deeper. Something that predates the Aspects themselves. Something that was present during THE First Cause and remains present still, flowing beneath the surface of what beings perceive as power."
Yggvaros paused in his contemplation and released a sigh carrying weight accumulated since before most Primordial Architects had achieved their first moments of cognizance.
He looked outward, his gaze piercing the white barrier emanating from the tree behind him. Beyond that calm boundary, the storms of corrupted paradoxical proto-matter continued their violent transformation of THE Prima Indifferentia. Blue-gold light pulsed through the chaos, Infinite Absolute Seals scattered across regions that had never known such authority before this current age.
"Infinity is unfathomably difficult to seek at THE Second Scale. Even those who have walked these heights for eons struggle to access more than fragments of its true nature. We sense it. We know it exists. We understand, in principle, what it represents. But channeling it? Directing it? Making it serve our purposes rather than simply existing in proximity to our awareness?"
His eyes narrowed with something approaching genuine interest.
"That requires methodology that most at this Scale have never developed. That requires understanding that most at this Scale have never achieved. That requires either tremendous fortune or tremendous insight, and fortune of such magnitude does not simply occur without cause."
His gaze focused more intently on the blue-gold light pulsing through the storms beyond his barrier.
"And yet someone astounding enough in Our Observable Existence has not only grasped Infinity, but they have spread it openly and freely for all others to see. The corruption carries it. The proto-matter pulses with it. Every corner of THE Prima Indifferentia now holds fragments of Infinite authority that did not exist here before this current transformation began."
Yggvaros raised one hand, his crystallized fingers moving with deliberate purpose.
"Is this merely their own Infinity, personal authority spread thin across vast distances? Or are they pulling from Infinity on the same level as THE Primordial Source, accessing depths that even those at THE Second Scale have found difficult to perceive? The distinction matters greatly, for the implications of each possibility diverge toward futures that could reshape everything we understand about advancement itself."
He waved his hand in sweeping motion, and the corruption beyond his barrier responded to his authority. The paradoxical proto-matter was filtered away, pushed aside by will refined across cycles beyond counting. What remained was pure, distilled from the chaos that had carried it.
Blue-gold Infinite Absolute Seals flowed into his domain, drawn through the white barrier by invitation rather than force.
Many across Observable Existence had already mixed their weavings with this paradoxical corrupted proto-matter and Infinity, their existences accelerating through combination that would either elevate them or unmake them depending on factors they likely did not understand.
Yggvaros had been careful not to touch it himself, maintaining the contemplative distance that had served him well since he first grasped THE Second Scale.
But at this time, curiosity overcame caution.
HUUM!
The weavings of Infinity fell into his hands, and a heartshaking aura erupted from his position with force pressing against regions of THE Prima Indifferentia far beyond his normal influence. The calm boundary around the white tree flickered as power flowed through crystallized fingers that had not touched authority this potent in eons.
Many Undivided Ones and Formless Terrors paused in their distant conflicts in different directions, sensing something that exceeded their comprehension emanating from a direction they instinctively knew to avoid.
Yggvaros pulled his hands back from the particles of Infinity.
"Utilizing Infinity greatly empowers and strengthens one’s Civilization, this much is certain. The authority flows through foundations and expands them, fills gaps that other methodologies cannot reach, elevates potential toward heights that seemed impossible before contact was established."
His voice carried weight now, informed by direct experience rather than mere contemplation.
"But those who channel it also add their power to Infinity itself. The exchange flows in both directions, and I wonder whether those currently mixing their weavings with this scattered authority understand what they contribute to something they cannot perceive. They take, yes, but they also give. And what they give flows toward a source that none here fully comprehend."
He looked down at the diagram he had drawn on the golden earth, at the branching lines leading from the Four Aspects toward that distant singularity labeled Scale of Existence.
"None here truly understand how to access THE Primordial Source. Perhaps those who naturally reach THE Second Scale might perceive pathways that others cannot. Perhaps eons of patient observation might reveal truths that desperate advancement obscures. Perhaps existence is simply too vast and unfathomable for any single consciousness to grasp, regardless of how long that consciousness has existed."
His gaze lifted toward the blue-gold light still pulsing beyond his barrier, toward the Infinity scattered across THE Prima Indifferentia by someone operating from Observable Existence.
"But what I am most curious about is the one who freely spread this authority. The foremost Guider of Infinity, or would they be called THE Conduit of Infinity? The terminology matters less than the reality of what they have accomplished."
Yggvaros rose from his seated position, his crystallized form shifting with motion that pressed against the golden earth beneath him. The white tree pulsed behind him as if acknowledging his contemplation, its dimensions continuing to vary with each moment that passed.
"How did you access Infinity when even those at THE Second Scale have found such access difficult? What methodology do you possess that we lack? What understanding have you achieved that has eluded beings who have existed since before THE Infinite Unfurling itself?"
His questions hung in the calm air of his domain, unanswered by anything except the distant storms continuing their transformation of THE Prima Indifferentia.
Somewhere in Observable Existence, a finite being conducted an endless sea.
And THE Arboreal Warden Yggvaros, First Among THE Sane to Grasp THE Second Scale of Existence, found himself genuinely curious about him!
He thought for a moment before he took out a small white notebook made from the same material as the tree at the center of this place. And in his hands, a white pen burning with authority appeared as he thought for a moment before opening the book that had half its pages filled, and he...began to write.
---
On the matter of Civilizations and their foundations, a lot of confusion persists among those who have not walked beyond THE First Scale of Existence.
It is common for such beings to observe authorities like Infinity and conclude that anything so vast must surely serve as the basis for a Way, for a Civilization, for the fundamental expression of one’s advancement through the hierarchies of power.
This confusion is understandable, for how could something so immense be anything other than what one builds upon?
Those at THE Second Scale know better.
Infinity is not a Civilization. It cannot be made into a Way. One may access it, channel it, allow it to flow through one’s foundations and empower what already exists there. But Infinity itself resists being claimed as personal territory in the manner that true Civilizations demand.
It is the river, not the vessel. It is the wind, not the sail. To confuse the force with the structure is to fundamentally misunderstand the nature of advancement itself.
The Four Aspects of the Oldest Paradox of Existence provide the true foundations from which Civilizations emerge.
From Chaos can spring the Civilization of Infernal Chaos, where destruction and creation dance in eternal cycles that feed upon themselves. From that same Aspect emerges the Civilization of Consuming Chaos, where all things are devoured to fuel further devouring, and the Civilization of Creative Chaos, where disorder births novelty without end.
The variations are as numerous as those who walk these paths, for Chaos by its nature refuses singular expression.
From Existence, the branches multiply further still. The Civilization of Unbound Existence permits one to transcend the limitations that constrain lesser beings, while the Civilization of Bound Existence finds power in accepting those limitations and forging strength from restriction.
The Civilization of Living Existence and its counterpart, the Civilization of Dead Existence, represent the fundamental duality that all things which are must eventually navigate. Higher variations include the Civilization of Transcendent Existence, where the boundaries between states of being dissolve entirely, and the Civilization of Primordial Existence, where one’s foundations touch the very origins from which all differentiation emerged.
Derivatives of wonders, you could even call them.
Paradox offers paths equally varied. The Civilization of Limitless Paradox permits contradictions to exist without resolution, drawing power from the tension between incompatible truths.
The Civilization of Dual Paradox maintains precisely two contradictory states in permanent opposition, while the Civilization of Recursive Paradox folds contradictions within contradictions until the very concept of resolution loses meaning.
Some speak of the Civilization of Resolved Paradox, though there is dispute whether true resolution remains paradoxical at all.
The First Tongue branches into linguistic expressions too numerous to fully catalog. The Civilization of Qi channels the fundamental energy underlying all speech and expression, while the Civilization of Logos builds foundations upon the rational structures through which reality organizes itself.
The Civilization of Phonemic Authority focuses on the individual sounds that compose meaning, and the Civilization of Lexical Dominion concerns itself with the accumulated weight of words combined into greater wholes.
Some pursue the Civilization of Silent Tongue, finding power in what is not spoken, while others walk the Civilization of Primal Utterance, seeking the first sounds ever differentiated from potential into expression.
All of these Civilizations exist. All of them can be walked by beings who achieved THE Second Scale and beyond. All of them draw from the Four Aspects in configurations as unique as the beings who claim them as of course, you do have those who purely claim Chaos, Paradox, Existence, and The First Tongue...well, not really The First Tongue as that is a hard one.
But you will never find one at THE Second Scale who speaks of the Civilization of Infinity.
For Infinity empowers Civilizations. It does not become them. Or so it is believed. On this, there really should not be an exception.
Those who attempt to make Infinity their Way find themselves conducting force without foundation, channeling authority without structure, wielding power that flows through them rather than from them. The distinction is subtle but absolute.
One may ride the river, but one cannot become the river while remaining oneself. One may harness the wind, but one cannot be the wind while retaining the identity necessary to harness anything at all.
This truth is rarely discussed among those at THE First Scale, for they have not yet perceived the difference between empowerment and foundation.
They see Infinity scattered across Observable Existence and conclude that someone must have built a Civilization upon it. They observe its effects and assume those effects represent advancement along familiar paths. Their confusion is forgivable, for they see only the surface of depths they cannot yet fathom.
And one should not even begin discussing THE Primordial Source.
Where Infinity is misunderstood, THE Primordial Source is simply unknown. Where Infinity can at least be perceived and channeled and directed toward purposes, THE Primordial Source resists even acknowledgment of its nature.
Those at THE Second Scale sense it as one senses a presence in a darkened room, knowing something exists without being able to identify what that something might be.
And unlike Infinity, which flows freely for those capable of conducting it, THE Primordial Source has never been accessed in Observable Existence as far as we can confirm.
Perhaps it cannot be channeled. Perhaps it can only be touched, briefly, by those who stumble upon it through fortune rather than methodology. Perhaps it is not a force at all but rather the absence from which all forces emerged, and attempting to channel absence is a contradiction even Paradox cannot resolve.
These questions remain unanswered.
They may remain unanswered forever.
