Chapter 2868: Like Yesterday
Zu An had a good grasp of the Conqueror King’s strength. Even if the latter was at a disadvantage, there was a chance that Defiant Providence wouldn’t have been able to kill him. He'd thus needed a backup plan in case Defiant Providence failed.
So, he'd transformed into Jiang Luofu via Myriad Transformations, and when the Conqueror King let his guard down after killing Defiant Providence, the Poisonous Prick claimed his life.
Obtaining Death’s authority had greatly strengthened the prowess of the Poisonous Prick. Even envoys of universal deities couldn’t resist its powerful death energy.
Zu An siphoned away the Conqueror King’s immense strength, causing his experience bar to surge ahead. Ahh~ Devouring the cultivation of others feels as marvelous as ever!
That thought horrified Zu An. No wonder people call skills like the Essence-Sucking Skill demonic skills. They can easily affect a person’s temperament.
He quickly purged all miscellaneous thoughts and proceeded to clean up the battlefield and the Conqueror King’s corpse.
To be honest, Zu An could have probably slain the Conqueror King with the help of Jiang Luofu and the Little Fiend Empress without reaching out to Defiant Providence. However, he hadn’t wanted the two women to take the risk, and he had to consider the aftermath.
In history, Dorgon had accrued many ailments from fighting on the battlefield. During a hunting trip, he'd fallen off a horse and died.
But the Conqueror King was a top-notch expert of the Myriad Worlds, so how could he die from falling off a horse? Without a strong justification, the Annihilation faction’s upper echelons would thoroughly investigate the matter, and they would have been put in danger.
Fortunately, the Conqueror King had courted his own death.
A few days ago, he'd gone to the prison to humiliate Defiant Providence and Tasina. He'd even gone around bragging about his exploit, so everyone in the Annihilation faction’s upper echelons knew about the matter. That laid the groundwork for Defiant Providence’s desperate vengeance here.
And indeed, when other members of the Annihilation faction finally arrived and learned about the ‘events’ that had transpired here, they didn’t doubt a thing at all.
Even the Conqueror King’s aides were only doubtful about how Defiant Providence had escaped from the prison cell. They didn’t suspect another person of being the murderer.
A purge followed soon after.
Zu An worked with Jirgalang and Oboi to suppress Suksaha’s troops.
The little emperor, Confounding Crossroads, cooperated with them, having grown tired of the Conqueror King’s arrogance. He understood that he was a puppet, and it was only a matter of time before he would need to steal power for himself.
Now that his biggest threat had been eliminated, he could finally step onto the forefront. Naturally, he was enthused. He even promoted Jirgalang, Oboi, and Zu An.
The group transported the Conqueror King’s corpse back to the capital.
Ajige, an aide whom the Conqueror King had left to guard the capital, stepped forward to receive the Conqueror King’s casket. He had briefly considered using this chance to kill off Jirgalang, Oboi, and the others to regain control over the little emperor.
However, after learning about the Conqueror King’s death, the supporters of their group had scattered. It also didn’t help that Ajige was a tyrannical person and had never been popular, so he failed to rally the remaining members of the group together.
After some fighting, Ajige was captured.
Zu An thought it was a pity, since he couldn’t absorb Ajige’s cultivation in front of so many Annihilation’s upper echelons.
Nevertheless, the Conqueror King’s death came as a relief to not just him, Jiang Luofu, and the others, but the upper echelons of the Annihilation faction as well. A joyous atmosphere suffused the capital.
The little emperor even hosted a banquet in the imperial palace under the pretext of celebrating his son’s birth, but everyone knew that he was celebrating the Conqueror King’s death. It also doubled as an opportunity to pull the other upper echelons of the Annihilation faction over to his side.
Zu An might have contributed greatly to the Conqueror King’s death, but he wasn’t an Annihilation worshiper in the end. The rewards he received paled in comparison to what Jirgalang and Oboi were bestowed.
But he didn’t mind it. Instead, he found a chance to slip into the forbidden palace.
Jiang Luofu had been on tenterhooks in recent years. First Dissonant Melody, then the Conqueror King. Trouble had kept knocking one after another, refusing to grant her any peace.
She hadn’t expected Zu An to quietly eliminate two powerhouses just like that. The other women were right. This man is a miracle-maker.
“Ah Zu, what do we do next?” They might have caught a breather, but the path ahead of them remained dark.
The Annihilation faction still wielded the absolute advantage in this world. The Reproduction faction had been wiped out, and the Order faction was barely holding on. No one could stop the Annihilation faction from conquering the world.
And once they did so, the Annihilation Progenitor would be able to assimilate this world and obtain a tremendous amount of power. All of them, including Chu Chuyan, Isabella, and the others, would die.
“Let’s celebrate this victory for now and not think about the troubles ahead. Worst case, we’ll just defect to Annihilation,” Zu An replied with a smile. He used intoxication as an excuse to kiss Jiang Luofu’s cheek, ear, and neck.
“Stop messing around...” Jiang Luofu read between the lines. She understood that many things couldn’t be spoken aloud. It might only be a private conversation between them, but there were no secrets before the universal deities.
The most important thing was that she trusted this man, so she didn’t probe further.
The Little Fiend Empress rolled her eyes. Are these two treating me like I’m non-existent?
Not wanting to be a third wheel, the Little Fiend Empress went out to keep watch for them. They were currently in the imperial palace, the heart of the Annihilation faction.
Jiang Luofu understood that as well, so she hammered Zu An’s chest awkwardly. “The Little Fiend Empress will be making fun of me for this.”
Zu An was unbothered. “Principal Jiang, when did you become so shy?”
That address brought Jiang Luofu back to her time in Brightmoon City. She put on a stern expression and said, “I’d never have let you through the academy’s doors if I had known you were such a brazen student.”
“That feels more like you.” Zu An looked at the woman before him. “Those empress dowager clothes look awful on you. Come, change into this.”
He reached into the Brilliant Glass Bead and took out an office lady's outfit... and, naturally, a classic pair of black stockings.
Jiang Luofu had the most peculiar look on her face. “You’re on beat with the Conqueror King.”
“I see we have a common sense of aesthetics.” Zu An burst into laughter. “I got these from Dreamland. It’s definitely better than the outfit you found inside the dungeon back then.”
Jiang Luofu’s face reddened.
She had obtained similar clothes from a dungeon in the Cultivation World, and she had been extremely fond of them. When she ventured into the Myriad Worlds, she learned that they were professional attire in technological civilizations, and that they carried certain connotations. Since then, she had started dressing more conservatively.
That said, she still preferred that style of dress. Since she was dressing up for her lover, there was no need for her to hide.
“Turn around.”
“I’ll put it on for you.”
“Pui.”
In the end, Zu An had to turn around. He heard a series of movements behind him. “Are you done yet?”
A leg gently kicked his body. He turned around, and his breathing quickened.
The clothes automatically tightened to be a perfect fit. There were no unnecessary crinkles, and the subtle tightening around the waist shaped out Jiang Luofu's jaw-dropping curves. Her white silk shirt was buttoned to her collarbone, and she exuded an air of nobility. Yet that only tempted one to sully her.
But what was more eye-catching were her slender legs. The smooth, shimmering texture of the black stockings that covered her from toes to thighs was simply too alluring. The domain between the stockings and her skirt left much to the imagination.
Her long hair was tied neatly behind her, leaving only a few strands to hang by her ears. They added a touch of coyness to her cold demeanor.
She even wore a pair of delicate glasses. She looked at him with a proud, teasing voice, saying, “Student Zu, what mischief are you up to this time?”
