Chapter 2951: Requesting Reinforcement
“Liu Bei?” Zhang Chun had the most bizarre expression when he heard that name. It was just days ago that he’d turned down Liu Bei’s request for reinforcements. How could he lower his pride right now to seek help from Liu Bei?
“That’s right. He has just inflicted two crushing defeats to the Yellow Turban Army and enjoys a glowing reputation right now. He might have a way to deal with the Yellow Turban Army. On top of that, Ji County is not too far away from Zhongshan Commandery,” Murong Qinghe replied.
Zhang Ju interjected with a roar, “The Yellow Turban Army was supposed to invade Ji County, but they suddenly changed their target and attacked Zhongshan instead. Who knows if that Liu brat is behind this?”
Murong Qinghe harrumphed. “The Yellow Turban Army poses a threat to Ji County as well. If they conquered Zhongshan, they would have Ji County completely surrounded. That would put him in a desperate position. I believe that he’d put aside past differences and make a rational choice.”
She quickly added, “But Marshal Zhang will have to show some sincerity to placate him as well.”
Zhang Chun’s expression flickered. He didn’t want to ask Liu Bei for help.
“Marshal, if Zhongshan Commandery falls, the rations we have stockpiled for many years will go to waste,” one of Zhang Chun’s aides said.
Zhang Chun looked at the Yellow Turban Army’s base camp and finally made up his mind. “Fine. As long as Liu Bei helps me push back Zhang Bao, I’ll give him half of our stockpiled rations!”
The discussion proceeded to whom they would send as the envoy.
In the end, the mission was entrusted to Murong Qinghe. It was the natural choice, since she and her Wuhuan cavalrymen were the ones who had the highest chance of breaking out of the Yellow Turban Army’s encirclement. But Zhang Ju was worried that Murong Qinghe would flee, so he forbade her from taking all her subordinates with her.
In the end, both sides came to an agreement. Murong Qinghe would take five hundred cavalrymen out with her to request reinforcements.
Meanwhile, Zu An and Ni Huang were busy communicating their feelings when a commotion broke out. A soldier reported that a platoon of cavalrymen had charged out of Lunu City, and their leader was a beautiful but valiant woman. They were so fast that the Yellow Turban Army struggled to stop them.
Zu An knew right away that it was Murong Qinghe. Worried, he quickly put on his clothes.
That made Ni Huang jealous. “I want to see how beautiful that woman is as well.”
Zu An anxiously stopped her. “That won’t do. She won’t be able to escape if you make a move as well, and there’s no way you can free her when everyone is watching. If she somehow flees from your grasp, it’ll only damage your reputation.”
Ni Huang snorted, “You’re just speaking up for her. Hmph, go and save her yourself. I won’t bother myself with this.”
Zu An laughed. He gave her a huge kiss before leaving.
He rushed to the battlefield, only to see that Murong Qinghe had broken out of the encirclement with her ‘Lightning Movement’. The Yellow Turban Army couldn’t catch up with her at all.
So, he secretly left the camp and distanced himself from the battlefield’s intimidation aura. It didn’t take long for him to regain his cultivation, which allowed him to use Rainbow Morph to intercept Murong Qinghe.
Murong Qinghe was initially taken aback. She thought it was a Yellow Turban Army ambush. It was only when she saw Zu An’s face that she exclaimed in delight, “Brother-in-law!” She leaped into Zu An’s arms, and the two of them embraced.
The other Wuhuans weren’t surprised, since Zu An had already stayed in her tent for the night. The grassland tribes were looser about such matters. If anything, they were intrigued about why their leader had never had a man before this.
At the same time, they admired Zu An. He already has that ice fairy as his companion; how did he win our little princess’ fancy as well?
“Brother-in-law, what are you doing here?” Murong Qinghe asked.
“It’s a long story. Why did you leave the city?” Zu An asked.
“We were traveling to Ji County to seek reinforcements from you. I didn’t expect to bump into you here,” Murong Qinghe replied with a smile.
“Seek reinforcements from me?” Zu An was amazed by Zhang Chun’s shamelessness.
Having guessed his thoughts, Murong Qinghe added, “Zhang Chun is willing to pay half of the city’s rations to you as compensation.”
She also highlighted Ji County’s precarious situation; if Zhongshan Commandery fell, Ji County would be in danger as well. She couldn’t care less about Zhang Chun, but that would put Zu An in trouble.
“Half of their rations?” Zu An’s eyes lit up. “That’s worth considering.”
He pulled Murong Qinghe to the side and explained the current situation to her. Murong Qinghe widened her eyes in shock when she learned that Zu An was currently a guest at the Yellow Turban Army. “How did you do it, brother-in-law?”
“It’s a coincidence. I went there to negotiate with them, but I bumped into a familiar face there,” Zu An replied with a smile.
“Oh. It must be a beauty.” Murong Qinghe looked at Zu An with envy and awe. “As expected of you. It seems that you have lovers wherever you go.”
“Qinghe, when did your tongue become so sharp?” Zu An instinctively looked at her mouth, and the same thought occurred to them simultaneously, causing their hearts to stir.
It took them some effort to rein in their passion and discuss the important matters at hand.
“Brother-in-law, what do you intend to do? How do you intend to earn those rations if the Yellow Turban Army’s commander is an ally as well?” Murong Qinghe asked. It didn’t make sense for them to squander their troops against each other just to earn some rations.
“We need to find a way. You head to Ji County to look for Tingxue and Yun Jianyue. Tell them to deploy our troops here. I’ll liaise with the Yellow Turban Army’s commander to figure something out,” Zu An replied.
“All right!” Murong Qinghe reluctantly bade Zu An farewell before advancing to Ji County.
Zu An returned to the Yellow Turban Army’s general tent to discuss the matter with Ni Huang. The latter didn’t answer; she seemed more concerned about Murong Qinghe.
“She is also a Deity of Lightning soul fragment, which makes her your sister in a way,” Zu An consoled her.
“And that relationship is further reinforced because of you,” Ni Huang remarked. “What do you think it will mean to collect all the universal deities’ soul fragments? Will we fuse as one and cease to exist?”
Zu An was taken aback. He had never considered this issue. He grabbed her hands and said, “If that’s the price to pay, I’d rather not get the soul fragments.”
To hell with that apocalypse! The universal deities can resolve that themselves. It has nothing to do with me!
Sensing his sincerity, Ni Huang lay on his chest. “You’re the best, big brother Zu~”
...
After briefly sharing their warmth, Ni Huang said, “On that note, we just received a request for reinforcements from our boss. The imperial court’s Northern Imperial General Lu Zhi led his elite Northern Army’s Five Divisions to encircle our boss at Guangzong County.”
Zu An was surprised. His initial plan had been to put on an act with the Yellow Turban Army to earn Zhang Chun’s rations, but he wasn’t sure how he could convince them to do so. However, there was no need for that anymore.
