Chapter 3596: Xueyan’s Dao Embryo
Xueyan stared at Lin Mu for a second longer before breaking into an excited grin. His tail began to wag again, though this time with a bit more restraint than before.
"As expected of Honored Master!" he said eagerly. "You’re absolutely right. I used my Dao Embryo to amplify it."
That answer immediately drew the attention of the others.
Daoist Chu’s brows rose slightly, while Meng Bai leaned forward with clear curiosity. Even Cattaleya, who usually focused more on direct combat than subtle mechanics, showed interest.
Spatial Dao Embryos were rare enough to begin with, and any insight into them was valuable.
Lin Mu’s interest deepened as well.
"A Spatial Dao Embryo?" he asked. "Show me."
Xueyan did not hesitate even for a moment.
If anything, he seemed delighted at the opportunity, almost like a child proudly showing off their crafts to their grandparents. He quickly adjusted his posture, straightening his back as his expression turned focused.
The playful enthusiasm faded just slightly, replaced by a more reverent seriousness.
"Of course," he said.
A moment later, the air around him subtly shifted.
HUMMMMM
It was not a violent fluctuation, nor was it something that would alarm an untrained observer. But for those present, especially Lin Mu, the change was unmistakable. Space itself seemed to tighten, as if gently acknowledging something about to emerge.
From Xueyan’s body, a faint silver glow began to manifest.
Then, slowly, a structure appeared.
It was encased within a Dao Shell, a protective outer layer that preserved and stabilized the Dao Embryo. The shell itself was shaped like a box, smooth and geometrically precise, its edges faintly shimmering with spatial distortions that were too subtle for most to notice.
Within that shell, the Dao Embryo revealed itself.
It was roughly the size of a hand, elongated yet balanced in proportion. Its surface carried a soft silver sheen, neither metallic nor ethereal, but something in between. The most striking feature, however, lay at its center.
It was hollow.
And within that hollow space, there existed a spool.
A delicate, intricate spool around which threads were wrapped.
But these were not ordinary threads.
They shimmered faintly, each strand composed of condensed Space Dao Traces, so fine and precise that even looking at them felt like observing the very fabric of space being woven into form.
The threads seemed to shift ever so slightly, as if alive, responding to unseen forces. They did not move chaotically, but with purpose, like something that understood its function deeply.
Meng Bai’s eyes widened in recognition.
"...Is that... a weaving shuttle?" he asked, his voice filled with amazement.
Xueyan’s face lit up immediately.
"Yes!" he said excitedly. "It’s called the Void Soaring Shuttle Dao Embryo!"
Lin Mu observed it in silence, his gaze unwavering. This was only the second Spatial Dao Embryo he had ever seen besides his own. Even Temple Head Xing Duyi had not reached the level required to form one, which only emphasized how rare this truly was.
Spatial Dao Embryos were not like others.
They were not merely a result of comprehension.
They required acknowledgment from the Spatial Dao itself.
And that alone made them incredibly difficult to obtain.
’For Xueyan to have formed one as his first Dao Embryo...’ Lin Mu thought deeply.
That was exceptional.
Lin Mu could also sense that this was indeed Xueyan’s only Dao Embryo. There were no secondary Dao fluctuations, no hidden auras. Everything pointed to this being his sole and primary foundation.
That made it even more impressive.
He spoke after a moment. "What are its abilities?"
Even though he knew about it a bit, he still wished to learn from Xueyan first hand.
Xueyan straightened further, clearly eager to explain. His earlier exhaustion seemed to be forgotten entirely as he began speaking with animated enthusiasm.
"I haven’t unlocked all of its abilities yet," he admitted honestly. "My master said I’ve only just begun to understand it. But the one I used just now is one of its simpler functions."
He gestured toward the shimmering threads within the shuttle.
"These threads allow me to ’weave’ a path through space," he explained. "Instead of forcing my way through like most movement techniques, I create a direct line of travel by aligning space itself."
He paused briefly, ensuring they were following.
"When I activate it," he continued, "my body is compressed into that line. Not physically, but spatially. I become a singular trajectory. That’s why I can pass through attacks and defenses."
Meng Bai nodded slowly, beginning to understand.
"So it’s not just speed," he said. "It’s... alignment?"
"Exactly!" Xueyan replied, clearly pleased.
"But," he added, his expression turning slightly sheepish, "to make it stable and powerful enough to actually work in combat, I have to use the Dao Embryo to reinforce the path. That’s why it consumes so much Qi."
Lin Mu understood immediately.
The base technique was efficient.
But Xueyan was over-amplifying it.
Not out of necessity, but out of caution and lack of complete mastery.
He was compensating for instability by pouring in more power.
It worked.
But it was not optimal.
Lin Mu’s gaze softened slightly as he looked at the young foxkin.
There was no doubt.
Xueyan was talented.
Very much so.
But he was still... learning how to refine that talent.
And for the first time since meeting him, Lin Mu saw not just an enthusiastic disciple, but a cultivator standing at the threshold of something far greater.
And perhaps...
Someone he could truly have fun guiding.
Lin Mu listened quietly as Xueyan explained what little he knew about his Dao Embryo, his expression calm but his thoughts active.
The concept of the Void Soaring Shuttle Dao Embryo was already fascinating, but the mention that its true Dao Skill had yet to be unlocked made it even more intriguing.
A Dao Embryo that could already perform such feats without even using its proper Dao Skill meant that its true potential was far greater than what had just been displayed.
