Chapter 3722: A Priceless Gift
A while later, Lin Mu’s thoughts drifted toward the utterly absurd mountain of gifts currently piled within his ring.
The dwarves had gone completely overboard.
Since most of them had no idea what kind of gift would be appropriate for someone capable of helping forge the Twin Void Pillars, they collectively decided to simply give him everything valuable they possessed.
The result was terrifying.
Entire mountains of refined ingots, immortal ores, forging materials, rare crystals, spirit woods, Spirit flames, and countless other resources now occupied enormous sections of his ring.
There were enough materials there to bankrupt entire empires.
Some dwarves had gifted barrels of ancient liquor.
Others offered armor pieces.
Some handed over strange trinkets or artifacts passed down through generations.
One particularly emotional mountain dwarf even gifted Lin Mu a giant stone chair because he claimed "a true legend needs a proper sitting rock."
Lin Mu still had no idea what to do with that.
He appreciated the sincerity behind the gifts, yet the sheer quantity was overwhelming.
Especially since he no longer needed most of the elemental materials for cultivation purposes.
Still, he knew such resources would eventually become useful.
At worst, they could support future endeavours, disciples, or allies.
Compared to the dwarves, Lin Mu’s companions had actually not given him anything yet.
Mostly because they remained trapped somewhere between depression and existential crisis.
Daoist Chu currently lay face down atop a table mumbling incoherently about unfair heavens.
Elyon was drinking quietly while staring into the distance with hollow eyes.
Meng Bai sat nearby attempting to calculate cultivation ages using his fingers again for reasons unknown.
Cattaleya had apparently entered a new phase where she aggressively challenged dwarves to physical contests just to reassure herself that Lin Mu was not superior at literally everything.
The twins and Shrubby, however, had prepared a gift.
And honestly, it might have been Lin Mu’s favorite.
Shrubby proudly dragged the item over while the twins hovered nearby excitedly.
It was a signboard.
A somewhat crooked signboard.
The plate itself had clearly been forged from random scraps of high grade immortal metals found around Mantleheim. The surface shimmered with dense immortal energy while traces of Yin, Yang, and fire energy flowed through it naturally.
Apparently Shrubby had melted the metals together using his flames while the twins refined and balanced the energies using their Yin and Yang Qi.
The result looked simultaneously priceless and ridiculous.
The front side displayed crudely carved images.
There was a vaguely human shaped figure meant to represent Lin Mu.
Beside him stood a giant cat which was clearly Shrubby.
Two noodle-like snakes represented Xiao Yin and Xiao Yang.
And finally, a tiny fluffy ball in the corner represented Ashy.
Below the figures were unevenly carved words.
"Lin Mu and the beast’s home."
The handwriting was terrible.
The carvings looked like a child had made them.
One of the twins had apparently tried carving decorative flowers and accidentally made something resembling exploding cabbages instead.
Yet Lin Mu stared at the signboard silently for several long moments.
Then he started laughing softly.
It genuinely felt more personal than the mountains of precious ores and treasures.
The beasts immediately brightened seeing his reaction.
Shrubby puffed his chest proudly while the twins hissed excitedly and pointed at different parts of the signboard.
Lin Mu carefully rubbed the surface of the signboard.
Ignoring the questionable artistic quality, the actual material itself was utterly terrifying.
The dense energies contained within the plate were enough to make many high grade immortal weapons look mediocre in comparison.
If an immortal expert saw it, they might mistake it for some legendary defensive treasure.
Instead, it was literally a house sign.
Lin Mu suddenly imagined future beasts discovering the Sleepscape and finding an incomprehensibly powerful immortal artifact hanging outside like some ordinary decoration.
The thought made him laugh again.
"This is great," he said honestly.
The beasts immediately became even happier.
Shrubby almost knocked over three nearby dwarves with his tail while wagging it proudly.
Lin Mu carefully stored the signboard separately within his ring instead of placing it with the other gifts.
That alone showed how much he valued it.
After all, treasures could always be gathered again.
But gifts like this were different.
The grand celebration within Mantleheim finally came to an end several days later, though many dwarves argued that it had only stopped because their liquor reserves had temporarily run dry.
For nearly two weeks straight, the hidden city had remained louder and livelier than ever before.
Songs echoed from the forge halls day and night, contests of strength and drinking were held in every district, and countless tales about the creation of the Twin Void Pillars spread among the dwarves like wildfire.
Even after the official banquet ended, smaller celebrations continued in corners of the city. Some dwarves still sat around massive stone tables retelling the same stories with increasing exaggeration after every mug of ale.
By the end of it, Lin Mu had become something of a living legend among them.
The human who had helped forge impossible weapons.
The hundred year old immortal monster.
The spatial cultivator who could shape even the stubborn husk.
The young master who drank alongside dwarves for over a week without collapsing.
Several new titles had already started circulating among the younger dwarves and every time Lin Mu heard one, he found himself increasingly unsure whether to laugh or sigh.
Still, once the festivities settled down, Lin Mu finally had time to focus on himself again.
The last five years had brought changes so profound that even he had yet to fully process them all.
He had completed three elemental cores.
Obtained two new Dao Embryos.
Improved his understanding of multiple Daos.
Forged weapons that even transcendents regarded as miracles.
And most importantly, his overall strength had undergone another enormous transformation.
Back when his Water Core had first reached completion, Lin Mu had taken time to understand the changes it brought to his body and cultivation. Yet afterward, the constant forging process and all the events surrounding it had left him with little opportunity to properly acquaint himself with the Earth, Metal, and Fire Cores.
Now he finally had the chance.
