Walker Of The Worlds

Chapter 3771: Surprising Young Man

Chapter 3771: Surprising Young Man

The countless colors streaking past the transparent barrier of the teleportation channel created a dazzling sight.

Rivers of silver, blue and violet light flowed endlessly around them while distorted images of worlds occasionally flashed by in the distance before they finally arrived within the Void.

Little Bull grabbed his head and the young man swayed.

"Everything’s spinning!" he exclaimed.

He Jian quickly reached out and steadied him.

"Easy there."

Little Bull blinked repeatedly.

"The sky is moving."

"The sky is not moving."

"It is."

"It isn’t."

"It definitely is."

The old man laughed.

"That’s just the spatial channel."

Little Bull stared at the flowing lights.

Then he immediately shut his eyes.

"It’s still moving."

This time even He Jian chuckled.

The old immortal guided him toward a comfortable position.

"You’ll get used to it eventually."

"I don’t think I will."

"You will."

"I don’t think so."

He Jian found himself smiling more and more whenever he spoke to the young man.

After spending years around disciples who constantly worried about cultivation rankings, resources, inheritances and hidden opportunities, talking with someone as simple as Little Bull felt surprisingly relaxing.

Most young cultivators would have been trying to understand the mechanics of the teleportation channel.

Little Bull simply wanted the spinning to stop.

After allowing him several minutes to recover, He Jian suddenly took out a small scroll from his storage ring.

The object appeared rather ordinary at first glance.

Little Bull immediately became curious.

"What’s that?"

"A place for us to stay."

The scroll unfurled itself as golden runes lit up across its surface. Then the tiny roll rapidly expanded. Fabric spread outward, support beams appeared and formation arrays activated. Within moments a large tent nearly ten meters wide stood before them.

Little Bull’s mouth slowly opened.

Then opened wider.

Then even wider.

"How did that fit in there?" he asked.

He Jian had expected many questions.

Still, the sheer astonishment on the young man’s face amused him.

"It’s an immortal tool."

Little Bull walked around the tent twice, touched the fabric, poked one of the support beams, looked back at the tiny scroll, back at the tent and finally back at the scroll again.

The old man laughed.

"Come inside."

Little Bull quickly followed him or rather was pulled by him inside.

The interior proved far larger than the exterior suggested. Several rooms had been arranged within the structure alongside furniture, cultivation mats, bookshelves and even a small kitchen area.

Lin Mu naturally recognized the principles involved.

The construction was similar to his own mobile courtyard, merely smaller and less advanced.

Little Bull, meanwhile, looked as if his entire worldview had collapsed.

"You can carry a house?"

"A small one."

"Can I have one?"

"Not yet."

Little Bull looked disappointed.

The old man could only shake his head.

Once they settled down, He Jian finally became serious.

"Our journey will take a long time."

Little Bull nodded.

"So we might as well use the time properly."

The young man tilted his head.

"How?"

"I’ll teach you."

Thus began Little Bull’s education.

The first lessons had nothing to do with cultivation. Instead, He Jian started with the basics; history, geography, the structure of the Immortal Realm, the existence of the Four Immortal Courts, and the major sects.

It was all the common knowledge that every cultivator was expected to possess.

Lin Mu naturally knew all of this already. In fact, he knew much more than most immortals.

Still, he listened attentively.

And whenever appropriate, he asked simple questions. Some were intentionally naive while others were designed to fit Little Bull’s background. The performance proved remarkably convincing.

Even Lin Mu had to admit that Cattaleya’s acting lessons had been worth enduring.

Several hours later, He Jian began testing him.

"What are the Four Immortal Courts?" the old man asked.

Little Bull immediately answered.

"The Eastern Court."

"Good."

"The Southern Court."

"Continue."

"The Northern Court."

"And?"

"The Western Court."

He Jian nodded approvingly.

The old man asked several more questions and Little Bull answered them all correctly. The old immortal began growing increasingly surprised. The villagers had repeatedly described the young man as somewhat slow.

Yet his learning speed appeared excellent.

Anything taught once was remembered.

Anything explained clearly was understood.

The old man began wondering whether the villagers had simply misunderstood him. Perhaps Little Bull was never slow. Perhaps nobody had ever properly taught him before. The realization made He Jian feel somewhat regretful.

How much potential had been overlooked all these years? The lessons continued.

Eventually the old man moved toward literacy.

"Can you read?"

"A little."

"A little?"

Little Bull nodded.

He Jian took out a basic text.

"Read this."

Little Bull accepted the book.

Lin Mu quickly skimmed the contents.

Thankfully Ashy’s investigation had revealed that Little Bull possessed basic literacy. The young man had learned enough reading and writing to handle simple tasks for the villagers.

Had he been completely illiterate, maintaining the disguise would have become far more troublesome.

Thus Lin Mu began reading.

The words came out somewhat slowly.

Simple characters posed no issue, common phrases were read smoothly, but whenever particularly complex terminology appeared, he paused. Sometimes he guessed incorrectly. Sometimes he asked for clarification.

The performance remained perfectly believable.

By the end of the exercise, He Jian appeared highly satisfied.

"This is more than enough."

Little Bull smiled.

The old immortal stroked his beard thoughtfully.

’The villagers truly have underestimated this young man.’ He reckoned.

Several days passed in this manner.

The first teleportation journey lasted four days.

During that time He Jian continuously taught him.

Little Bull absorbed everything.

History.

Customs.

Cultivation terminology.

Social etiquette.

The basics of sect life.

The young man’s progress surprised the old immortal repeatedly.

Eventually the teleportation channel ended as the spatial tunnel collapsed around them and a new world greeted their arrival.

After leaving the teleportation facility, they discovered that the next available transfer would not depart for another week.

Thus they temporarily settled down.

For He Jian, the delay represented an opportunity. The old man had been curious about one matter from the very beginning.

Little Bull’s inability to cultivate.
