Chapter 3831: Disaster Passed On
Several voices spoke rapidly in the corridor and the Luozi brothers looked toward the doorway.
"They’re here."
Moments later, four disciples entered the office. And the first thing Lin Mu noticed was how utterly exhausted they looked. The disciple leading the group possessed enormous dark circles beneath both eyes. He looked as though he had not slept properly in several days.
The second disciple had apparently forgotten to shave for quite some time as stubble covered almost his entire jaw.
The third disciple wore two entirely different shoes. One boot reached almost to his knee while the other barely covered his ankle.
The final disciple somehow still had several grains of rice stuck to both shoulders and even one in his hair.
Lin Mu blinked. ’Were they dragged out in the middle of breakfast?’ Or perhaps... ’They were still getting dressed when someone shouted for them.’
Little Bull immediately stood up with a broad smile.
"Hello!" He enthusiastically waved both hands.
The four administrative disciples instinctively stepped back. Then they looked at each other.
"...He waved."
"I saw."
"Why did he wave?"
"I don’t know."
The disciple with dark circles slowly took out a jade slip and activated it. A small projection appeared above its surface showing Little Bull’s recorded appearance from yesterday’s recruitment.
The four carefully compared the image with the smiling young man standing before them. Several long moments passed, until finally... The disciple with mismatched shoes nodded.
"It’s him."
The others simultaneously released relieved sighs.
"Thank heavens."
"We found the right one."
"I thought we’d have to search Wild Peak."
"So did I."
Luozi Yi folded his arms. "You can handle the rest?"
The administrative disciples nodded together. "Yes."
Their answer carried identical exhaustion.
Luozi Er looked almost sympathetic. "You received the assignment?"
The disciple with the rice grains sighed. "We were the last ones to report this morning."
"...Unfortunate."
"Very."
Apparently, everyone already understood exactly what that meant.
Little Bull looked between them. "What happened?"
"When you’re the last to arrive..." The disciple scratched his cheek awkwardly. "...you receive whatever assignments everyone else has avoided."
"Oh." Little Bull nodded. "So... they avoided me?"
"No." The four immediately shook their heads. "Absolutely not."
"It was only..." The disciple searched for an appropriate explanation. "...Wild Peak paperwork."
Little Bull accepted that answer without question. "Okay."
The Luozi brothers rose from their seats. "Then we’ll leave Junior Disciple Little Bull in your care."
The four administrative disciples simultaneously bowed since technically they were lower ranked than the manager brothers. "Thank you."
After exchanging several documents, the Luozi brothers returned to their own duties while the four newcomers guided Little Bull outside. As they passed through the courtyards once more, Lin Mu noticed the visible relief spreading among the servants.
Several actually smiled.
One elderly servant even clasped his hands together toward the heavens. "The paperwork has found its rightful owners."
Another servant beside him nodded solemnly. "The disaster has passed."
"No." The supervisor corrected him. "The disaster has merely moved elsewhere."
Little Bull turned around. "What disaster?"
"...Paperwork." The supervisor answered immediately.
Little Bull nodded. "Paperwork sounds scary."
Several servants agreed with complete sincerity. Outside the compound waited what initially appeared to be an ordinary wooden cart. Only after approaching did Lin Mu realize it floated several centimeters above the ground.
Simple formation patterns glowed faintly beneath its frame while four spirit jade wheels rotated lazily despite never touching the earth. The administrative disciples climbed aboard.
One of them gestured toward Little Bull. "Please."
Little Bull climbed in as well before the cart immediately leaned noticeably toward his side. The disciple controlling it blinked. "...Heavy."
Little Bull looked down. "Sorry."
"It’s fine." The disciple quickly adjusted the formation and the cart steadied itself before gently rising into the air.
Little Bull’s eyes widened dramatically. "The cart can fly?"
All four disciples looked toward him.
"We assumed..." The disciple with dark circles answered. "...that you couldn’t fly yet. So we brought transportation."
"Nice." Little Bull smiled brightly. "I like flying."
The simple honesty made all four disciples relax slightly. They had spent the entire journey expecting a troublesome assignment. After all, the recruit belonged to Wild Peak. The same Wild Peak whose disciples regularly solved disputes by wrestling immortal beasts.
Instead, Little Bull simply seemed curious about everything.
The disciple with the mismatched shoes leaned closer toward his companion and whispered. "He’s actually polite."
His companion whispered back. "...Don’t jinx it."
Lin Mu pretended not to hear.
The cart gradually accelerated and soon the Janitorial Division disappeared behind them. The scenery changed continuously beneath the floating vehicle. Dense forests gave way to wide open plains and rolling hills stretched across the horizon while crystal clear streams wound through valleys like silver ribbons.
Occasionally enormous immortal beasts could be seen roaming freely in distant grasslands and several flying disciples crossed paths overhead before vanishing toward entirely different divisions.
Lin Mu quietly observed everything. Every landmark became another point upon his growing mental map. After some time, another massive lake appeared far in the distance. Unlike the peaceful lakes surrounding Wild Peak, this one constantly churned.
Towering waves rolled across its surface despite the complete absence of wind while dark clouds hung permanently above its waters. Every now and then enormous columns of water rose hundreds of meters before crashing back down.
’Rain Dragon Lake.’ Lin Mu recognized it immediately from Lady Kang’s map and combined with what the Luozi brothers had told him earlier, his interest only increased.
’I’ll have to investigate it.’ Lin Mu thought, as it was another possible hiding place and another forbidden zone.
He quietly stored the thought away. The journey continued for nearly an hour and a half before the administrative districts finally appeared. Compared to the rugged atmosphere surrounding Wild Peak, this place felt incredibly orderly.
Wide roads intersected at perfect angles, buildings followed symmetrical layouts, every courtyard appeared meticulously maintained and even the disciples walking through the streets moved with obvious purpose.
The flying cart landed before a large administrative hall and without wasting time, the four disciples escorted Little Bull directly inside.
