Chapter 3836: A Vast Library

Chapter 3836: A Vast Library

As a courtesy, Lin Mu waited for several seconds for someone to respond to his arrival.

"Hello?" His voice echoed through the cavern but no answer came.

Lin Mu sighed. "Of course."

He already understood what he needed to do. Lin Mu took out his newly issued disciple token and held it before the gate. For several seconds, nothing happened. Then a wave of energy emerged from the massive doors.

The energy washed over Lin Mu’s disciple token as the token glowed. Several runes upon the gate activated, then hundreds more. And soon, the entire cavern began trembling. Seeing this Lin Mu instinctively stepped backward.

The three hundred meter tall gate groaned as stone scraped against stone. Lin Mu raised his head, expecting the colossal doors to slowly swing open.

Instead... A tiny section at the bottom of the gate lit up.

Click.

A perfectly ordinary, human sized door opened.

Lin Mu stared at it as the small doorway looked almost comical against the enormous gate surrounding it. He remained silent for several seconds.

"That was unexpected," Lin Mu muttered.

Xukong laughed loudly within his mind. Lin Mu looked up at the three hundred meter tall gate once more. Then, he looked down at the tiny door. It was actually small for his current build too.

"Why even build the large gate?"

"Perhaps you’ll find out."

Lin Mu sighed before ducking slightly and walking through. The small door closed behind him. The moment Lin Mu stepped through the small door, he finally saw the true interior of the Wild Peak’s library, and for several seconds he simply stood there without moving.

Even with all the places he had visited throughout his journeys, and all the ancient inheritances, sect repositories, and private collections he had entered, the sheer scale of the place before him still managed to surprise him.

The library was enormous.

Shelves stretched across the cavern in every direction, with rows upon rows of them disappearing into the distance. Each shelf was dozens of meters tall, while some of the larger ones reached heights of over a hundred meters.

Yet even those massive shelves seemed small when compared to the cavern itself. Lin Mu raised his head and tried to find the ceiling, though he had to crane his neck back considerably before he could finally see the rough stone above.

’At least five hundred meters,’ Lin Mu estimated. ’Maybe even higher.’

It was difficult to tell the exact height because the ceiling was far from even. Large depressions and natural alcoves existed throughout the rock, some extending hundreds of meters farther upward.

Several shelves had actually been built into those alcoves, making it seem like the library continued directly into the mountain itself. Lin Mu could even see distant lights shining from some of the deeper sections, showing that there were probably additional chambers hidden inside.

The sheer amount of information stored here was staggering.

Lin Mu slowly walked forward while his gaze moved across the towering shelves. There were books, scrolls, jade slips, wooden tablets, bone slips, metal sheets, and many other forms of recorded information.

Some shelves contained millions of books alone, while entire sections were dedicated purely to jade slips. Lin Mu could already tell that it would take an ordinary cultivator thousands of years to even glance through a fraction of everything stored here.

"That’s a lot," Little Bull muttered aloud.

His voice echoed faintly through the cavern.

Xukong chuckled within his mind. "A rather simple observation."

"I have to stay in character," Lin Mu replied mentally. "Besides, it really is a lot."

He continued walking and soon noticed several strange objects floating between the shelves. At first, Lin Mu thought they were some kind of transport formation, though after observing them for a few seconds he realized what they actually were.

Platforms.

Dozens of stone platforms floated throughout the library, slowly moving between different heights. Some rose toward the highest shelves while others descended toward the floor. Each platform was several meters wide and had a small formation plate built into its center.

Lin Mu watched as one of the platforms descended from nearly three hundred meters above.

There was a Wild Peak disciple standing on it.

The man was almost completely bald and had arms thicker than Little Bull’s thighs. He stood upon the platform with his arms crossed, holding a massive stone tablet beneath one arm. Once the platform reached the floor, the disciple casually stepped off and walked away without even glancing in Lin Mu’s direction.

The platform immediately rose again.

Lin Mu smiled slightly. "That’s thoughtful."

He understood exactly why the platforms existed.

Body cultivators had many advantages.

Their bodies were stronger, their vitality was greater, and their physical capabilities could reach terrifying levels. A sufficiently powerful body cultivator could shatter mountains with their fists and survive injuries that would instantly kill ordinary Qi cultivators.

Flying, however, was troublesome. Most lower level body cultivators simply could not fly.

A Qi cultivator could use their Qi to control flying swords, activate flying tools, or directly support their body once they reached an appropriate cultivation realm. Their methods were refined and allowed precise movement through the air.

Body cultivators lacked such convenience. Those who reached the Immortal realm could release their vitality to propel themselves, though the result was often far less graceful. Lin Mu immediately remembered High Elder Shatter Peak.

The man’s method of flying could barely be called flying. It was closer to launching himself through the sky.

High Elder Shatter Peak had released an enormous amount of vitality from his body and used it as thrust. The resulting force had propelled him forward at astonishing speeds, though his movement had been far from subtle.

Lin Mu had felt like he was being carried by an uncontrolled rocket. Sure there was thrust, there was speed and there was even some directional control but hovering calmly in one place would probably be a challenge.

Lin Mu knew that highly experienced body cultivators could eventually gain better control over their vitality and achieve proper flight. High Elder Shatter Peak could probably do so if he truly tried.

But the man simply seemed to prefer blasting himself through the sky at ridiculous speeds. Most body cultivators never bothered developing such precise control. This was one of the major reasons many body cultivators still practiced a small amount of Qi cultivation.

They did not necessarily focus on increasing their Qi cultivation realm.

Instead, they cultivated just enough to gain access to basic conveniences. A small amount of Qi allowed them to activate jade slips, operate formations, use storage tools, control flying treasures, and perform many other everyday tasks.

Life simply became easier.
