Chapter 3881: Upsetting Lin Mu

Chapter 3881: Upsetting Lin Mu

High Elder Shatter Peak roared. "YOU ARE MAKING A BIG MISTAKE!"

His fists continued falling as barrier after barrier exploded. The treasury arrays immediately generated fresh ones and additional formation layers joined the existing cages. Soon dozens of barriers surrounded the enormous elder.

The treasury itself groaned under the continuous impacts.

Lin Mu watched everything in silence and right now he felt... Shocked.

That was the only word fitting the situation.

Since entering the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect, he had seen countless people interact with High Elder Shatter Peak. The other Peak Heads respected him and the Elders of neighboring divisions remained cautious around him.

Even those who disliked his straightforward personality rarely showed open hostility.

Within the Wild Peak itself the disciples practically worshipped him, the ordinary elders trusted him completely and Peak Head Mountain Roar openly relied upon him. Lin Mu had never imagined someone within the Peak would treat him this way.

Taegong behaved as though offending High Elder Shatter Peak carried absolutely no consequences. And the confidence itself spoke volumes. Lin Mu quietly allowed the illusionary chains to pull him forward.

Taegong had already begun walking toward one of the deeper passages while the formations dragged Little Bull behind him. High Elder Shatter Peak’s furious roars continued echoing throughout the treasury as barrier after barrier exploded but fresh ones immediately appeared.

The endless cycle continued.

For the first time since arriving at the Wild Peak... Lin Mu felt something stirring inside him.

It had nothing to do with the restraints, those meant little to him for he could break them whenever he wished.

No...

What truly bothered him was the sight behind him.

A man he respected. Someone who had accepted Little Bull without reservation. Someone who had patiently taught him and someone who had protected him. That man was now being openly disregarded before his own disciple.

A faint heat rose within Lin Mu’s chest.

His expression remained calm while his eyes slowly lifted toward Taegong’s back. And for the briefest instant... Something changed.

The innocent gaze of Little Bull disappeared as an indescribable aura escaped.

It lasted less than a heartbeat.

The pressure carried no cultivation, no visible energy or any killing technique.

It came entirely from Lin Mu himself... From the countless battlefields he had crossed... From mountains of corpses left behind... From cities consumed by calamities and from millions upon millions of souls that had entered the cycle of reincarnation through his hands.

The treasury seemed colder and even the surrounding light dimmed for that single moment.

If Taegong had turned around... He would not have seen a confused new disciple.

He would have looked directly into the eyes of a man who had walked through endless death without once allowing his resolve to waver. A man whose mere presence could make long lived experts hesitate.

Taegong’s footsteps paused as a strange unease suddenly welled up within his stomach.

He frowned slightly.

"...Hm." He glanced around the corridor but nothing appeared unusual.

Behind him, High Elder Shatter Peak continued smashing barriers and the treasury formations continued rumbling. The restrained Little Bull quietly followed behind with a lowered head.

Taegong dismissed the feeling. "The High Elder’s anger is affecting the atmosphere."

He resumed walking, completely unaware that the true source of the unease had been only a few paces behind him.

The illusionary chains continued pulling Little Bull through the treasury.

Their silver light flickered rhythmically as they remained connected to the surrounding formations. Every few steps another rune would flash across the chains before fading away again, constantly verifying that their prisoner remained securely restrained.

Lin Mu lowered his head and allowed himself to be dragged along. His feet scraped across the stone floor while Taegong walked ahead without once looking back.

For a brief moment... A very brief moment... A different thought entered Lin Mu’s mind.

His fingers tightened and his body instinctively measured the distance separating him from Taegong.

Just over four steps as his restraints posed no real obstacle. Even now, Lin Mu could easily shatter them through brute strength. His physique alone was enough to accomplish that. The moment the chains broke, he could cover those four steps almost instantly.

His hand could wrap around Taegong’s neck before the man even realized what had happened.

One squeeze.

That was all it would take.

Even if Taegong somehow survived the first strike, the fight would already be over. The treasury arrays would become irrelevant once their controller lost consciousness. The image flashed through Lin Mu’s mind with startling clarity.

His fingers slowly flexed.

Then...

HUUUU

He exhaled quietly.

The thought disappeared as quickly as it had come.

’No.’ That was emotion speaking.

Lin Mu had survived countless dangers because he rarely allowed emotion to dictate his actions. His anger stemmed from watching High Elder Shatter Peak being openly insulted and imprisoned by someone who belonged to the same Peak.

It was understandable but it simply was not useful. Lin Mu slowly relaxed every muscle in his body as the innocent posture of Little Bull returned.

’Think.’ His mind immediately shifted toward analysis. ’Why?’

That question bothered him far more than the restraints themselves. Taegong clearly belonged to the Wild Peak. Or at least he appeared to. High Elder Shatter Peak had spoken to him with obvious familiarity.

Their argument carried the weight of many previous disagreements. They knew each other well. Yet, Taegong had shown almost no regard for either High Elder Shatter Peak or Peak Head Mountain Roar.

Even after High Elder Shatter Peak repeatedly mentioned Peak Head Mountain Roar’s acceptance of Little Bull, Taegong remained completely unmoved. It was as though those names carried little significance within the treasury.

’Why?’ Lin Mu’s thoughts drifted toward something he had experienced many times before.

Sect politics.

He had encountered enough large organizations throughout his cultivation journey to understand that appearances often concealed complicated internal structures.

Outwardly united factions frequently contained multiple competing authorities. Different elders answered to different superiors. And separate departments possessed overlapping responsibilities.

Some individuals enjoyed protections extending beyond their own divisions.

’Is Taegong an ordinary elder?’ Lin Mu doubted it. ’Or does he have some kind of backing?’
