Chapter 3907: The Real Demon
"You..." One prisoner stared blankly but words refused to come.
Another slowly shook his head.
"How..." His voice trembled. "How is he still this strong?"
A third prisoner looked toward Lin Mu’s shackles. "They sealed his cultivation too..."
Several others quickly noticed another disturbing detail.
"Look at him." One whispered. "He doesn’t have a single scratch."
Another swallowed loudly. "The fall... He survived it completely."
"No broken arms."
"No broken legs."
"No injuries."
Their voices became increasingly apprehensive.
Every newcomer suffered the same things after the descent: Broken bones, internal bleeding, severe bruises and sometimes permanent disabilities. But the man before them appeared perfectly healthy.
Their understanding of reality quietly began collapsing.
Unfortunately for them Lin Mu offered no explanations. He possessed no obligation to satisfy their curiosity. Instead, he answered them with violence.
His right foot shifted half a step and his body rotated before his fist shot forward.
WHOOSH
The punch never reached its targets as it never needed to. The terrifying pressure generated by the movement alone erupted outward. Five prisoners happened to stand directly before him and the invisible force struck them first.
CRACK CRACK CRACK
Their chests visibly caved inward and two died instantly. Their hearts ruptured before their bodies even left the ground. The remaining three flew backward while coughing blood as sharp cracks echoed through the cavern.
Their ribs shattered one after another beneath the overwhelming pressure. All three crashed heavily into the prisoners behind them and several more fell beneath the collision. But before anyone recovered, Lin Mu spun.
WHOOSH
His right leg swept across the air.
The movement appeared almost effortless but another violent wave of compressed air exploded outward. More prisoners screamed as their bodies launched across the summit and several struck protruding rocks with horrifying force.
KACHA
One man’s neck snapped immediately.
CRACK
Another landed headfirst upon the stone and the impact shattered his skull.
SHLICK SHLICK SHLICK
A third rolled down the mound before striking a cluster of embedded bones that pierced through his weakened body. Those fortunate enough to survive continued screaming while clutching broken limbs.
Years of starvation had stolen much of their resilience. Their bones had gradually become brittle and their muscles lacked the strength to protect them. Ordinary immortals might have endured such impacts.
But the prisoners of the Mad Demon Depths could not.
And within only a few breaths... The gathering had already become a massacre.
The battlefield fell into complete silence. Only moments earlier, nearly a hundred prisoners had surged forward with murderous intent, convinced that overwhelming numbers would guarantee another easy hunt.
Now the stone summit had transformed into a graveyard as bodies lay scattered across the cracked ground. Several had died where they landed, their lifeless eyes still carrying expressions of utter disbelief.
Others writhed weakly, clutching shattered ribs or twisted limbs while coughing blood onto the ancient bones embedded throughout the mound. The survivors stared at Lin Mu with faces drained of every trace of confidence.
No one moved and no one dared to breathe loudly as within only a handful of breaths, nearly a quarter of them had died. More than seventy percent of the remaining prisoners carried injuries ranging from broken bones to ruptured organs.
Those who still stood unharmed had survived through nothing more than fortune. They merely happened to remain near the back of the crowd. Had they been a few steps closer, they too would already be lying among the dead.
The realization spread rapidly through every surviving prisoner’s mind.
Their prey had become their executioner!
One man quietly dropped the sharpened femur he had been holding and it struck the stone with a dull clatter. But nobody paid attention. Another prisoner instinctively stepped backward, then another.
Soon several people had begun retreating without realizing it as fear quietly consumed them.
One gaunt middle aged cultivator stared at Lin Mu while unconsciously muttering to himself.
"No... This can’t be... He can’t be human..."
Another swallowed loudly.
"Perhaps..." His voice trembled. "...perhaps he’s the real demon."
Several nearby prisoners heard those words but none laughed and no one dared to dismiss the suggestion. Instead, more than one pair of frightened eyes drifted toward Lin Mu once again.
The towering young man stood calmly within the center of the cracked summit. His breathing remained perfectly steady and his robes bore almost no damage that wasn’t already there. Even the blood staining portions of his clothing belonged entirely to other people.
His body carried no wounds and he showed no exhaustion or strain. He looked exactly the same as he had when the battle began. Against that, they looked like starving ghosts while Lin Mu quietly observed them.
His expression remained indifferent.
These prisoners had survived countless years through brutality. The weak died while the strong devoured them. That cruel law had ruled this place long before his arrival. But today, someone stronger has finally appeared.
As Lin Mu silently evaluated the remaining survivors.
At that moment, the old man finally moved. His weathered face had twisted into something resembling madness. Fear still lingered within his remaining eye, yet beneath it burned fanatical conviction.
His trembling hand suddenly reached toward his own palm as a jagged fragment of sharpened bone flashed.
Slash!
Fresh blood immediately poured from the deep wound before the old man raised his bleeding hand high before violently throwing the blood into the air. The crimson droplets scattered upward and instead of falling, they hovered.
The old man’s hoarse voice echoed throughout the summit.
"O’ Great Deity of the Depths!" His remaining eye remained fixed upon the crystal skull. "Strike down this heathen that dares cheat you!"
The floating blood suddenly dissolved and the crimson droplets transformed into tiny particles that merged with the lingering dark mist surrounding the effigy. The faint wisp that had remained suspended ever since exposing Lin Mu finally stirred.
Until now it had merely hovered. But now, it came alive. The dark vapor condensed into something resembling a narrow serpent made from smoke. Tiny crimson and yellow sparks continuously flickered throughout its body.
The surrounding air grew noticeably colder while the prisoners immediately lowered their heads. Several began whispering prayers beneath their breath. Lin Mu quietly watched the approaching wisp.
