Chapter 4043: Accusations Of Rebellion

Chapter 4043: Accusations Of Rebellion

The three experts descended.

WOOONG!

Their combined pressure rolled across the area, and the crimson aura surrounding the Wild Peak members was pushed downward. Several disciples grunted while some of the weaker ones staggered backward.

The Sword Peak Head’s gaze swept across the gathered Wild Peak members before settling upon Lin Mu.

"Wild Peak!" His voice exploded through the surroundings. "How dare you display such behavior within the Core Court!"

Sword Intent accompanied his words, causing the air itself to feel sharp and it made several Wild Peak disciples clench their teeth.

"Have you decided to rebel against the sect?" the Clarity Peak Head asked next.

Her voice was completely different. It was soft and pleasant, almost gentle enough that someone might have mistaken it for concern. Yet the threat hidden within those words was unmistakable.

Declaring the Wild Peak rebellious would completely change the situation. The Law Division elders immediately became tense and Daoist Bone Ruler rubbed his forehead. He had somehow known his day would get worse.

Yet throughout all of this, the Grand Elder remained silent and his eyes were fixed upon Lin Mu.

He examined the massive old man standing at the center of the Wild Peak, taking in his white hair, long beard, enormous physique and strange robes belonging to a Junior Elder from an ancient era.

Lin Mu met his gaze calmly and neither spoke as several breaths passed.

The Sword Peak Head finally grew impatient.

"Explain yourself!" he demanded.

Lin Mu’s eyebrow rose.

"What rebellion?" Zhenyu asked.

The Sword Peak Head frowned. "We arrive to find the Wild Peak releasing their cultivation inside the Law Division, threatening its members, and invoking an ancient wartime doctrine. You dare ask what rebellion?"

Zhenyu gave him a look filled with disappointment. "We are exercising authority granted to the Wild Peak by the sect itself."

The Sword Peak Head’s expression stiffened.

Zhenyu continued, "The Open Palm and Closed Fist Doctrine was approved by our Patriarchs long before your great-grandparents learned how to cultivate. If you have forgotten your own sect’s laws, perhaps you should return to the Records Division and study."

Several Law Division elders lowered their gazes as they knew he was technically correct. The Closed Fist Doctrine had never been abolished.

The Clarity Peak Head frowned. "Ancient permission does not grant you the right to cause chaos wherever you please."

"Chaos?" Zhenyu repeated.

His gaze moved around the Law Division. "Interesting."

His eyes returned to her. "A member of the Wild Peak is deliberately framed, imprisoned, secretly thrown into the Mad Demon Depths, and the person responsible disappears under suspicious circumstances. Evidence implicating him is questioned before a proper investigation even begins, while multiple factions interfere with the matter."

Lin Mu’s voice gradually grew deeper. "Yet somehow, the Wild Peak closing its fist is the chaos that brings the Grand Hall running."

The Sword Peak Head’s expression hardened.

Zhenyu spread one enormous hand. "Where was this enthusiasm when Taegong disappeared?"

Nobody answered. "Where was this enthusiasm when a disciple was secretly sent into the Mad Demon Depths?"

Still nobody spoke. "Where was this enthusiasm when the Wild Peak demanded answers?"

High Elder Shatter Peak’s eyes brightened behind him.

Zhenyu’s gaze swept across the three newcomers. "But the moment my Wild Peak decides to use the rights our sect granted it, suddenly three experts descend from the Grand Hall speaking of rebellion."

He stroked his beard. "How efficient."

The words sounded almost complimentary and that somehow made them worse.

Daoist Bone Ruler closed his eyes briefly. ’He’s doing it again.’

The Sword Peak Head’s Sword Intent sharpened. "You!"

Zhenyu glanced at him. "What?"

The simplicity of the response caused several Wild Peak disciples to struggle against their smiles.

The Sword Peak Head’s jaw tightened. "You speak rather boldly for someone whose identity has barely been confirmed."

Zhenyu snorted. "If you wish to question my identity, get in line."

His eyes briefly moved toward Daoist Bone Ruler. "The Law Division Head already tried the direct method."

The Sword Peak Head followed his gaze and noticed something strange.

Daoist Bone Ruler looked away.

The Sword Peak Head paused. "What happened?"

Nobody answered.

Zhenyu smiled. "Ask him later."

Daoist Bone Ruler’s eyebrow twitched. He had absolutely no intention of explaining that particular event if he could avoid it. In fact, he hadn’t fully reported the matter of him losing against Zhenyu to the Patriarch and the Grand Hall.

And while the rumors had traveled there already, it was clear that the Sword Peak Head, and the other two who had come with him, had yet to fully learn of it.

The Clarity Peak Head studied Zhenyu carefully before speaking. "Regardless of your claimed identity, your conduct is inappropriate. You stand before the Grand Elder himself and continue speaking without showing even basic respect."

Lin Mu finally turned his attention fully toward her while the woman’s expression remained calm.

"Have you no understanding of seniority?" she asked.

For several seconds Zhenyu simply stared at her, then his shoulders shook. "Ha."

The Clarity Peak Head frowned.

"HAHAHAHA!" Zhenyu’s laughter exploded across the Law Division as several people stared at him in disbelief.

Even High Elder Shatter Peak looked surprised.

Zhenyu laughed until his beard shook, then finally wiped the corner of one eye. "Seniority?"

His grin widened. "You are lecturing me about seniority?"

The Clarity Peak Head’s eyes narrowed. "Is something amusing?"

"Very." Zhenyu leaned slightly forward. "Child."

There was absolute silence after the word was spoken and even the Clarity Peak Head’s expression froze.

A Law Division disciple somewhere in the crowd made a strange choking noise before immediately covering his mouth.

Daoist Bone Ruler closed his eyes again. ’Why?’

The Clarity Peak Head was thousands upon thousands of years old. She was a Transcendent Immortal, the master of one of the greatest peaks within the sect, and one of the most respected cultivators of the Heavenly Stream Guardian World.

Nobody called her a child, but Zhenyu apparently did.

"Did you just call me a child?" she asked slowly.
