Chapter 4934: Avoid
“Quickly! Get out of the way! Get out of the way!”
Yue’er was munching on her cotton candy when she heard the shouts. She looked toward the commotion and saw a spirit beast carriage careening wildly down the street, completely out of control.
Yue’er calmly licked her cotton candy again, watching the beast-drawn carriage approach. Amidst the surrounding crowd’s gasps and sighs of regret, she lightly pushed off with her toes. Her small figure then sat down on the second-floor balcony railing of a nearby tavern.
Perched on the second-floor railing, her feet dangling over the edge, she held onto a pillar for balance with one hand while eating her cotton candy with the other. Curiously, she watched the erratic carriage crash into a small stall, scattering its wares everywhere.
The onlookers stared in astonishment at the child sitting on the second-floor railing, dangling her tiny legs. They had expected such a small child to be thrown off, yet the little girl proved surprisingly agile.
Old Predecessor Guo paused, looking up to find the little girl sitting above, smiling down at him.
“Can we eat first? I’m hungry!” Yue’er said sweetly, flashing an innocent, adorable smile as she nibbled on her cotton candy. She noticed it was shrinking even though she was reluctant to eat it.
Seeing this, Old Predecessor Guo nodded and smiled. “Alright, find a seat upstairs. I’ll be right up.” ” With that, he stepped inside the tavern.
Traveling together, they knew this child wouldn’t touch a single grain pill, yet she was indeed more sensible and diligent than most children. During their journey, she rarely complained about eating only dry rations and pastries. Now that they had the opportunity to enter a tavern, it was only right to let her enjoy a proper meal.
The chaos on the street hadn’t fully dispersed yet, but the city guards arrived swiftly to handle it. However, many people had witnessed the little girl’s light and agile movements, so they kept glancing up at the second floor of the restaurant.
After finishing her cotton candy, Yue’er sat by the table waiting for the food to arrive. She had already ordered from the waiter before Old Predecessor Guo had even come up.
“Were you startled just now?” Old Guo sat down and inquired.
“No, it was those two beasts that got startled. But they didn’t hit me.” Yue’er said, twirling the teacup on the table with her small hand as she asked, “Grandpa Guo, is your friend’s house far from here?”
“Not very far. There’s no rush. Now that we’re in the city, we can have a meal and rest a bit before going. ” Old Master Guo chuckled, glancing down at the street below. He saw the city guards arriving and the two spirit beasts, which had gone out of control for some unknown reason, being slain, their blood splattering the ground.
He frowned slightly, seemingly surprised by the brutality and bloodshed of the city guards’ enforcement.
“Those two beasts died so unjustly.” Yue’er propped her cheek with one hand. Turning to see the scene below, she couldn’t help but sigh softly.
“Oh?” Old Predecessor Guo paused, somewhat surprised by her remark.
“I just caught the scent of herbs on them—the kind that drives beasts mad,” Yue’er said, still twirling a teacup on the table.
Hearing this, Old Guo asked no more. Certain matters within the city were best left unquestioned; otherwise, they would only invite trouble.
“Food’s ready! Braised golden pig’s trotters, crispy-skinned spirit pig meat…” The waiter called out loudly as he placed the dishes he was carrying onto Yue’er and the others’ table.
