Chapter 1271: DAY ONE OF MILITARY TRAINING (I)

THE standard-issue military training uniform, a simple green top and matching trousers, hung loosely on Luo Yan's slender frame. The plain fabric and basic cut contrasted with his fair complexion and naturally gentle features. His dark hair fell softly against his forehead.

He picked up his phone from the desk and took a picture of his reflection in the mirror, carefully angling it to show off his slim waist. Then he sent the photo to Shen Ji Yun on WeChat.

[yanyan1213]: Brother Ji Yun, how do I look in my uniform?

Since it was still very early, he expected it would take some time for Shen Ji Yun to see his message. But to his surprise, the "read" label appeared almost immediately under his message. Then, less than a second later, Shen Ji Yun sent him a sticker of an adorable white rabbit with heart-shaped eyes.

Luo Yan chuckled.

[yanyan1213]: I bet you'd think I'm prettier with no clothes on.

Shen Ji Yun sent back a sticker of a rabbit with a bright red face. Luo Yan decided to be a little more playful and typed:

[yanyan1213]: Should I send you some nudes?

There was a pause, and the three dots appeared on the screen, showing that Shen Ji Yun was typing a reply. But the dots kept appearing and disappearing, which meant he was typing something and then deleting it.

Luo Yan could easily picture what Shen Ji Yun must look like right now. The other was probably blushing deeply after reading his message. Just as he was about to type that he was only joking, Shen Ji Yun had already sent a reply.

[luckycloud]: I would love that, but please do not send anything. What if someone hacked my phone? Anything you put online can stay there forever. I do not want anyone else to see you in a state of undress. Besides, if I had a photo like that, I might spend too much time... entertaining myself. That would not be good for my health.

Luo Yan read the message, and a warm feeling spread through his chest. Shen Ji Yun might have joked at the end, but his protectiveness shone through every word. He genuinely didn't want to risk any private photos being exposed, so he thought it was safer not to have them at all. To Luo Yan, that cautious, caring thought was incredibly sweet.

[yanyan1213]: Relax Brother Ji Yun, I was just teasing you. But thank you, for looking out for me.

Luo Yan smiled and sat down at his desk, continuing his conversation with Shen Ji Yun. He was so engrossed that he jumped in his seat when a loud alarm suddenly sounded throughout the entire dormitory building. He recognized that sound even though it had been years since he had last hear it. It was the wake-up alarm used during military training to tell all students it was time to get up.

He sent a quick message to Shen Ji Yun, letting him know he had to leave the dorm soon.

[luckycloud]: Today will probably be basic drills. Remember to drink plenty of water and put on sunscreen. Good luck. I know you will do just fine.

Luo Yan smiled and sent a quick thank you. Just then, he heard his roommate groan. He turned toward the other bed and saw Zhen Yihan slowly waking up.

"Make that alarm stop..." Zhen Yihan mumbled, his voice heavy with sleep.

"I'm afraid that's not possible," Luo Yan said in amusement.

Zhen Yihan's eyes flew open the moment he heard Luo Yan's voice. It seemed to jolt him into remembering he wasn't in his own bed at home, but in the university dorm. He quickly turned his head toward where the voice had come from. When he saw Luo Yan already dressed in his military training uniform, his eyes widened in surprise.

"Why are you already dressed?" he asked.

Luo Yan chuckled softly. "I woke up a while ago. You should go get ready now. We have to be downstairs by 6:15."

Zhen Yihan let out another groan as he got out of bed. He grabbed his toiletry bag and looked at Luo Yan.

"Will you wait for me, Xiao Yan?" he asked. "I promised I'll make it quick."

Luo Yan nodded. "Of course."

Luo Yan and Zhen Yihan followed the stream of students down the stairs and gathered in the open area in front of their dormitory building. A man wearing a staff uniform and holding a clipboard waited for the crowd to settle before speaking.

"Good morning," the dorm manager began, his voice carrying easily over the quieting students. "I will now call your names for roll call. Please answer clearly when you hear your name."

After the attendance was checked, he continued. "You will now proceed to the cafeteria for breakfast. You have forty-five minutes. At seven o'clock sharp, all freshmen must assemble on the main sports field. Do not be late."

As soon as the dorm manager finished speaking, the crowd of students began to move. They started walking toward the cafeteria. The quiet area quickly filled with the sound of footsteps and casual conversation as everyone went to follow the instructions.

Luo Yan and Zhen Yihan joined the line moving through the cafeteria. When they reached the serving station, they saw everyone was receiving the same meal on their trays. Luo Yan picked up a tray and received a boiled egg, a plain steamed bun, a bowl of warm rice porridge, and a small dish of pickled vegetables.

The food was simple, but he knew it was meant to be hearty and practical for the long day of drills ahead. He remembered that during the regular semester, this same cafeteria would be bustling with countless options, from stir-fried dishes to noodle soups. But during military training, efficiency and energy were the priority.

After they finished breakfast, they made their way to the sports field.
