Chapter 3472: Diva, Diva (29)
Yue Wenlun closed his studio and devoted all his energy to hunting for Qiao Ling’er. Aside from a phone number that no longer connected, he realized he knew nothing about her. He didn’t know her family background or even where she lived.
Eventually, Yue Wenlun tracked down her hometown and found her parents to ask about her whereabouts.
Qiao Ling’er had moved to the capital to work but didn’t have a local household registration, and her family was not particularly wealthy. When Yue Wenlun arrived at their home, her parents told him that she hadn’t returned at all.
It appeared her parents were still unaware of what she had done.
Pretending to be a suitor, Yue Wenlun asked for her current phone number. After some hesitation, they gave it to him.
Yue Wenlun took the number to the mobile service provider to check the registration. He found that the account holder was a woman named Li Kelan.
Who was Li Kelan? How could Qiao Ling’er’s parents have a number registered to that name?
Once he had the name, Yue Wenlun searched for information on Li Kelan online. He found music videos and her registration details for a talent show.
This person looked nothing like Qiao Ling’er. There wasn't a single point of resemblance. How could it be her?
She must have had plastic surgery and changed her identity. That woman had even changed her surname.
Yue Wenlun decided to ‘beat the grass to startle the snake.’ He would go meet this Li Kelan in person.
He went to the television station and watched Li Kelan on stage. His reaction was identical to Ning Shu’s: could plastic surgery really achieve this? She was a completely different person.
But as he listened to her sing, he had a premonition that this woman was going to be a star. Her style was incredibly versatile. One moment she was singing a soft, lingering love song, and the next she was performing an upbeat, explosive track.
Furthermore, she claimed all these songs were her own original creations.
The mention of ‘original creations’ immediately reminded Yue Wenlun of the plagiarism scandal.
Yue Wenlun took a bouquet of flowers backstage to present to her.
Qiao Ling’er was touching up her makeup in the vanity mirror when the flowers appeared. She froze for a moment, and when she saw the man reflected in the mirror, her expression shifted. She nearly lost her composure and stood up.
However, she quickly steadied herself, took the bouquet, and thanked him with a reserved, polite smile.
"Thank you for the flowers, sir." Qiao Ling’er looked at Yue Wenlun as if he were a complete stranger.
If it hadn't been for her brief slip-up a moment ago, Yue Wenlun might have actually believed he had the wrong person.
"Qiao Ling’er, we meet again," Yue Wenlun said in a low, malicious voice.
Qiao Ling’er’s body stiffened. However, her eyes were full of confusion and innocence as she said, "Who are you talking about, sir? You have the wrong person."
Yue Wenlun spoke through gritted teeth. "Qiao Ling’er, I’d know you even if you were burnt to ashes. You might have changed your face, but you can’t change the superficiality and ruthlessness in your bones."
Qiao Ling’er frowned and handed the flowers back to him. "Sir, if you came here to give me flowers, I welcome you, and I thank you for liking my music. But it’s incredibly rude of you to come here, harass me with nonsensical accusations, and mistake me for someone else. Please leave. This is a private backstage area."
"Qiao Ling’er, how long are you going to keep up this act? I’ve already visited your parents." Yue Wenlun felt a surge of satisfaction as he watched her face turn pale.
"Sir, I am not Qiao Ling’er. How many times do I have to say it?" Looking offended, Qiao Ling’er pulled her ID card out of her bag. "Look for yourself and see if I’m the person you’re looking for."
Skeptical, Yue Wenlun took the ID. The name on it was indeed Li Kelan, and the photo matched her current face perfectly.
Could he really have made a mistake?
Yue Wenlun looked back and forth between the ID and the woman. The document truly confused him.
He took out his phone to snap a photo of the ID, but Qiao Ling’er quickly snatched it back. "What do you think you’re doing? Why are you taking a picture of my ID? Do you intend to use my information for something illegal?"
"I’m going to verify your identity. I am certain you are the person I know!" Yue Wenlun stated flatly. He refused to be fooled by her beauty; he had learned his lesson once and was determined not to repeat it.
"You must be mentally ill! You’ve got the wrong person, yet you’re acting as if you’re in the right and trying to photograph my ID? Not even the police have the right to do that." Qiao Ling’er was panicking.
She hadn't expected Yue Wenlun to track her down through a phone number. Her parents were such useless, pig teammates. She should never have contacted them.
And they weren't just ordinary pig teammates—they had actually given her number to a complete stranger.
Right now, Yue Wenlun looked like he wanted to devour her alive. If he managed to prove she was Qiao Ling’er, her life would be over.
"Because of a wrong number, you’ve decided I’m the person you’re looking for. I have every reason to suspect you’re trying to intimidate me."
Qiao Ling’er looked serious. Her anger gave her an imposing air.
"Go ahead and call the police. Let them check if this ID is real. Do you think a fake ID is enough to pull the wool over everyone's eyes?"
Yue Wenlun was fearless. He had nothing left to lose.
This woman had destroyed his career, yet she thought she could live a carefree life? In her dreams!
Qiao Ling’er gave a cold snort. "Fine. Call the police and let them check. See if my ID is a forgery. Hmph!"
She wasn't afraid at all. The ID had been provided by the system. She had essentially taken over someone else's identity, and there were no holes in her paperwork. Even if the police investigated, they wouldn't find anything.
Seeing her so confident, Yue Wenlun began to doubt himself. However, his intuition told him he had the right target.
From her initial reaction to seeing him to her current act of playing the stranger—it was all a performance!
He was a Best Actor award winner, after all. He could sense when someone was acting.
Moreover, this woman was clearly afraid of him. If she had a clear conscience and hadn't done anything to wrong him, why would she be afraid?
"You are Qiao Ling’er. No matter how much you hide, I recognize you." Yue Wenlun smiled at her, revealing his stark white teeth. His smile held no warmth. It was bone-chillingly cold.
This gave Qiao Ling’er a bad premonition. Was this man going to latch onto her and never let go?
If he really wouldn't leave her alone, she would call the police. She was no longer Qiao Ling’er, so he had no reason to frame her.
After the plagiarism and rape scandals, it would be very interesting to see the Best Actor award winner involved in a third scandal: the harassment and intimidation of a female artist.
