Chapter 3556: Medusa (22)
As she was unable to find her way back, Ning Shu had no choice but to use the positioning system. She spent merit points to locate Athena.
Five merit points was nothing to the now-wealthy Ning Shu. It was well worth using a little bit of merit to reduce the obstacles in her task.
After spending those five points, Ning Shu learned that Athena was currently in her temple within the city of Athens.
With a route map in hand, finding Athena became much easier. However, in her earlier aimless flight, she had wandered quite a long distance away.
Along the way, Ning Shu kept pondering how to annihilate a god’s godhead.
A godhead was the symbol and source of a god’s power, much like the significance of the energy stored in Ning Shu’s internal core.
A godhead was incredibly hard and possessed the will of the god.
Having a godhead was essentially what made one a god.
This was going to be difficult!
The sky was full of gods, which meant there were a lot of godheads.
If only she had mastered the ordinance of time, that would be wonderful. No one could escape the ordinance of time.
However, she had to destroy the godhead using normal power. If she used the power of the ordinances, the original host, Medusa, would not be able to use them upon her return and would certainly be left at the mercy of others.
This was truly a major problem.
Ning Shu pondered while she practiced. This situation where pulling up one radish brought up a whole trail of mud—one vine producing far too many melons—was really hard to handle.
Ning Shu felt she might have to take on all the gods in the sky.
If she couldn’t win, she would be destroyed, but it was also unrealistic to wipe out all the gods because there were simply too many of them to count.
There was a god for everything: the god of wine, the god of the sea, the goddess of harvest, the god of curses, the goddess of beauty, the god of love, the sun god, and the god of war. Every god had a skill they could be proud of.
Even if she used a basket to collect godheads, she would need a lot of them.
The most effective way was to possess power that made the gods fear and respect her, allowing her to stand on equal footing and have an equal say.
As for her Unsurpassable Martial Arts, the original host could continue practicing them after returning, but how could she obtain power that would strike fear into the gods?
The kind of power that ensured no one would dare to mess with her!
Ning Shu decided to use Athena for practice. Even if she couldn’t defeat her, she could at least make a run for it.
She would use Athena to hone her skills, and then she would go find Poseidon.
The original host’s tragedy was caused by these two people. Once they were dealt with, if anyone else came looking for trouble, she would fight them too!
If no one bothered her, then they could live in peace, though that seemed unlikely.
As a human, her actions were rebellious and disrespectful to the gods.
After several days of travel, Ning Shu returned to the city of Athens, where soldiers clad in armor guarded the city gates.
The previous turmoil had left the entire city of Athens desolate and in ruins. Now, the city was being rebuilt.
Just as Ning Shu was about to enter the city gates, she was stopped. A man with blonde hair and a heroic spirit, riding a horse and wearing armor, blocked her path.
The sky over Athens was filled with Athena’s divine aura. The moment anyone touched that aura, Athena would sense it. Ning Shu had wanted to enter Athens quietly and stealthily.
Now it seemed that was impossible!
“Remove your veil,” the man on horseback shouted at Ning Shu.
The man looked her up and down. “What is your name?”
He gave a look to the surrounding soldiers, who then quickly encircled Ning Shu.
“Are you the evil priestess Medusa?” the man asked.
Huh, even with a veil on, someone recognized her. It seemed her natural beauty was truly hard to hide.
“It really is you, the evil priestess Medusa.” The knight raised his spear and pointed it at Ning Shu.
Ning Shu looked at the man. He had a towering and majestic build, a voice as loud as a bell, a spear in one hand, a shield in the other, and a long sword at his waist.
Could he even use that many weapons at once?
“And who are you?” Ning Shu asked the knight.
“I am Perseus.”
Ning Shu: …
Ning Shu, while smiling: Motherfucker…
Zeus’s heroic son had appeared, the very man who was supposed to cut off Medusa’s head.
Ning Shu looked at Perseus expressionlessly, her gaze cold.
Perseus felt his skin crawl. “Are you the evil priestess Medusa?”
“I am. What can you do about it?” Ning Shu stood on the giant dragon’s head, looking down at Perseus from a height.
In the original storyline, Athena had cursed Medusa and turned her into a snake-haired gorgon, and had her banished to a lonely island.
Elsewhere, in the past, King Acrisius of Argos had imprisoned his daughter, Danaë, because a prophecy stated that her son would kill him and take his throne.
Prophecies again. Prophecies were truly interesting.
That massive lecher Zeus turned into a shower of gold to mate with Danaë, causing the king’s daughter to become pregnant and give birth to Perseus.
The king’s reaction: Dammit, kill them…
So he sealed his daughter and grandson in a chest and threw them into the sea to fend for themselves, but they survived thanks to Zeus’s protection.
Once Perseus grew up, in order to protect his mother, he decided to kill Medusa and take her head to present to the King.
During his adventure, he received help from the gods. He learned Medusa’s location and was given three treasures.
Using those three treasures, he successfully killed Medusa and claimed her head.
Even after Medusa died, her eyes could still turn people to stone. Half of her blood could bring the dead back to life, while the other half was fatal. Medusa’s terrifying power became a form of protection.
Perseus used Medusa’s head to defeat a sea monster and rescue his future wife.
He established his own kingdom, the city of Mycenae. Eventually, he offered Medusa’s head to Athena. Athena inherited Medusa’s abilities, and Medusa’s likeness became the pattern on Athena’s shield.
Ning Shu: Motherfucker…
What exactly did Medusa do wrong?
She was raped and cursed, and even after becoming a monster, this was her fate.
This Perseus, who came to take her head, actually received help from the gods. Afraid that this useless waste wouldn’t succeed in decapitating Medusa, they even granted him three divine artifacts, constantly upgrading his gear.
To cut off the head of an innocent person and still be called a hero?
Did Medusa eat your family’s rice or something?
Poseidon, who defiled Medusa; Zeus, who was with countless women; and all those heroes—their harmful actions toward women went unpunished. All that remained was the ‘wickedness’ of women. It was always the woman’s fault.
Athena, as a woman herself, punished Medusa but let Poseidon go free.
Her position forced her to focus more on the center of power—the patriarchal system—and its interests.
Perseus appearing in Athens now was likely because he was here to pick up his gear, right?
He was definitely here to see Athena.
Ning Shu removed her veil and tilted her head as she looked at Perseus. She was going to cut off Perseus’s head instead.
Perseus was suddenly stunned by the sight of Ning Shu’s face. He lost himself for a moment in such a beautiful countenance before snapping back to his senses and shouting, “Vicious priestess Medusa! You harmed the people of Athens and desecrated the gods. You must be punished!”
He was just prattling on. Ning Shu directly transformed water into a blade and sliced off Perseus’s head.
