Re: Evolution Online

Chapter 1457 - 1458: A new soulweaver in the cosmos

Cracks spread across the golden soul. Liam grasped the soul and erased the final bits of Archon's will attached to it. He then brought it into his soul space.

The moment the Archon's soul disappeared, the ruined battlefield finally fell silent.

Liam remained completely still for several seconds, almost unable to believe that it was actually over.

His first soul avatar floated in the distance, surrounded by slowly fading white-golden flames, while the second stood nearby with black and crimson energy still rolling across its damaged body.

Both were Dao Grand Masters, both belonged to him, and inside his soul space was now the soul of the man who had nearly killed him only moments ago.

"Holy shit."

Liam slowly lowered himself to the ground. The moment the tension disappeared, exhaustion hit him all at once. His legs nearly buckled beneath him as the pain he had been ignoring surged back through his consciousness, and Luna hurriedly wrapped an arm around him before he could fall.

Blood continued dripping from his nose. His head felt as though someone had repeatedly smashed it against a wall, and controlling two Dao Grand Master avatars while simultaneously maintaining his physical body had pushed his mind dangerously close to its limit.

Alex and Luna stared at the blood running down his face.

Liam wiped it away. "I am fine. We did it. We did it. We changed our fate."

Alex and Luna stared in confusion, but the old cauldron ancestor understood everything very well. "You really did. You stinking brat. You really did change your fate." His laughter rang loudly in the empty, almost fully destroyed world. "Now don't slack off. Finish what you started. I am standing guard for you here."

Liam nodded and dove back in. Now that there was no more pressure, he was immediately able to identify the soul strand in the archon's soul.

The other two had been dark and crimson respectively, carrying traces of their nature even after Liam stripped away most of the remaining soul energy around them, while the Archon's strand shone with a faint golden light.

More importantly, it felt incredibly complete. The demon and vampire souls had both suffered tremendous damage before Liam obtained them, but the Archon's soul had been captured almost immediately after his body was destroyed. Its deeper structure was almost perfectly preserved.

Liam carefully separated the golden strand. The moment it came free, his second soul avatar reacted.

The crude soul thread connecting the demonic and vampiric Dao cores began trembling violently, and Liam immediately understood why.

He had constructed that thing in desperation by forcing incompatible soul strands together and using his own soul energy as a bridge, but it had always been an imperfect imitation of his original soul thread.

It had somehow survived the avatar's insane series of breakthroughs, yet after reaching Dao Grand Master, its weakness had become even more obvious.

"Perfect."

Liam didn't hesitate. He brought the golden strand toward the crude soul thread. The demonic strand reacted first.

Black energy surged from it and immediately pushed against the newcomer, while the vampiric strand responded almost simultaneously with a wave of crimson energy.

Liam frowned but wasn't surprised. He had encountered the same problem when he originally tried to combine the demon and vampire strands, and forcing them together had accomplished absolutely nothing.

This time, however, Liam had no enemy trying to cut him apart. He could take his time to some extent, at least.

Liam began experimenting. The first attempt failed. So did the second.

By the seventh, he had managed to connect the golden strand to the crude soul thread at a single point, only for the connection to collapse moments later when demonic energy surged through it.

The failure didn't discourage him because, unlike before, every attempt taught him something.

Outside, Alex remained close to Liam's motionless body while the Cauldron Ancestor stood guard over the devastated world. Luna wandered around and picked up all the drops and the corpses, including the heavy loot on the three main big shots.

Inside, Liam continued working with obsessive concentration, rebuilding connections whenever they collapsed and gradually learning how the three different strands responded to one another.

Then, after countless attempts, something finally changed. The three strands locked together.

Liam froze. For several seconds, he didn't dare touch anything. The connection was still crude, with the dark demonic strand, crimson vampiric strand, and golden divine strand only joined together at several points rather than perfectly intertwined like his original soul thread, but none of them were rejecting the others anymore.

Black, crimson, and golden soul energy flowed through the structure in slow pulses, and every time the three energies reached one of the newly formed connections, the entire thread trembled without breaking apart.

"It worked." Liam carefully sent a little more soul energy through it. The makeshift thread held.

He increased the amount again, and although the three strands trembled violently, they remained connected. More importantly, the golden strand seemed to have changed the balance between the other two.

The demonic and vampiric strands still rejected each other whenever they came into direct contact, but with the third strand woven between them, the pressure no longer concentrated entirely on Liam's own soul energy holding everything together.

The second soul avatar immediately began changing.

Its demonic and vampiric Dao cores rotated faster as the newly reinforced soul thread allowed more energy to flow between them.

Previously, Liam had needed to carefully restrict both cores because every violent surge threatened to tear apart the crude connections holding the avatar together, but that danger had diminished considerably.

Black and crimson energy spread throughout the avatar's damaged body, rebuilding its missing flesh at a speed that made Liam's eyes widen. Within moments, the injuries disappeared.

The second avatar opened its eyes.

Boom!

A heavy pulse of soul pressure swept through Liam's soul space.

The millions of surrounding souls trembled as the avatar's presence suddenly became denser, while the unstable fluctuations that had constantly surrounded it began disappearing one after another.

Its cultivation hadn't increased beyond Dao Grand Master, but Liam could immediately tell that its actual strength had risen considerably. Before, a large portion of the avatar's power had been wasted simply keeping itself together. Now far more of that power could actually be used.

Liam grinned. "Three really is better."

Just as he finished, many system notifications chimed in one after the other.

[Ding! You have successfully created a soul thread from foundation]

[Ding! You have achieved the title 'Soul Weaver']

[Your perception of soul strands has been greatly enhanced.]

[Your ability to manipulate, separate, and weave soul strands has been greatly enhanced.]

[Foreign soul strand rejection reduced.]

[Ding! Soulweaver Thread (2/999)]

[Ding! You have successfully created a second soul avatar]

Liam looked at the notifications and exhaled. 2 soul threads and 2 soul avatars. Did this mean he could possibly make 999? If this was true, then the soulmancer class was absolutely broken!

Not that the class was without its own limitations. It looks like his real body is going to be lagging behind for a while. However, he was not too concerned about this. He hadn't properly digested all the memories so he did not know for sure, but he did catch some hints on dao body for clones.

Liam had a feeling that he might be able to evolve his soul avatars more down the line. That was a problem for later. For now he needed to get out of here and first fully process all of the souls he had gathered today. Not just the dao fragments but also the memories.

These were not souls of nobodies.

Even among the millions of ordinary soldiers who had died on this battlefield, many had lived for centuries, while the stronger cultivators had accumulated thousands or even tens of thousands of years of experience.

They had cultivated different Daos, traveled through different worlds, belonged to different factions, learned countless techniques, and gathered knowledge that Liam had never even known existed.

And then there were the three monsters. The demon general, the vampire and the Archon divine swordsman. Each of their souls alone was a treasure that Liam couldn't properly estimate.

The fragments he had absorbed during the battle had already given him enough comprehension to create new Dao cores and push his second soul avatar all the way to Dao Grand Master.

But those fragments represented only a small portion of what their souls actually contained. Hundreds of thousands of years of memories remained buried inside the demon and vampire alone, while the Archon's soul was almost perfectly preserved.

Liam had barely scratched the surface. Cultivation techniques, combat experience, dao comprehension, secret arts, information about different worlds and knowledge about demons, vampires, the Celestial Court, and perhaps even the entire political network of the cosmos. There was a lot to learn.

And most importantly, these held answers to many of his questions.

Just as Liam was mulling over these things, all of a sudden a small cauldron appeared in his soul space. The moment he saw it, his eyes went wide.

"Senior... This..." Liam stammered.

The old man's voice boomed in his ears. "Congrats brat. You are now qualified to wield me."

Liam stared at the small cauldron. He knew exactly how terrifying this thing was. And finally he would be able to use this! The alchemist in him was jumping with joy.

"Toss in your dolls and see what happens."

Liam smiled bitterly. Did he mean his soul avatars that he painstakingly created with his life on the life? Nevertheless, he tried it. Immediately Liam became shocked again.
