Chapter 2522: Ego Check
Sam unlocked the prototype arms and placed them on the table.
Underneath it, the damage was revealed. His arms broke. Not from Icarus’ attacks, but from the attacks he made.
The attacks on par with Pretranscendence late stage, were too much for his Initiation body to handle. But still, it wasn’t too much of a problem.
They are just some normal fractures which he can easily endure.
"What do you feel now, Icarus? To get your ass handed to a guy who is so much weaker than you?"
Icarus didn’t say anything. He didn’t understand the point Sam was making.
Sam on the other hand didn’t even look at him. He was focused on healing his arms. He aligned the bones and the fractures were healed pretty quickly. And he spoke while he did that.
"See Icarus, I can’t believe that you take yourself so seriously.
I like you. I do like the rest of the managers. You are someone with guts to challenge the faith that was forced up on you since you were kids.
You guys were smart enough to question the gods and their followers when you saw their brutal, barbaric and most importantly, their hypocritical acts.
And you guys have half decent strength to put up a fight that will make the leaders of the opposition spare a glance at you.
But that’s about it. That’s all you are worth."
Sam turned to look at Icarus, with his arms healed. He stepped closer to him and crouched down. His face close to Icarus’ own as he spat coldly, with a blank expression.
"Don’t you dare think that you are someone in a position to actually use me Icarus.
While you squirm and writhe to fight against the academies... I am challenging your gods.
My actions were never about your revenge. My fight is with Zeus since the start and this academy, and your revenge against that academy, were all collateral consequences.
Just like the suit I am making, to put it crudely and ignoring all of our personal friendship... you are a but a tool in a game much bigger than you can fathom.
So, don’t you dare claim the credit for my current state.
In fact, while contribution in this revenge plan might be significant, your need was never. You were always replaceable.
Even if you were not there and I only had those seven managers, things would have been the same.
Even if all the managers hadn’t been present, the things would have been the same. The outcome wouldn’t change.
Only my means would.
And, I know about my potential more than you could even imagine and a snowball has better chance at surviving in hell than you actually have a shot at hindering it.
Actually... fuck it... I will put in the most simplest words.
All the gods that you worship hate me to the core, because even with all their celestial majesty, they couldn’t make me do what they want me to do. And you, a fool who is far away from actually understanding his own insignificance in the grand scale of things... thinks that you actually made me do your bidding?
Just how self-centered are you?"
Icarus froze on the spot. He looked at Sam’s face, deep in his eyes and knew that he was dead serious.
Sam wasn’t boasting or trying to elevate himself up. No, he actually believed everything he just said and he believed it to be so true as the red blood coursing in his veins.
That made Icarus feel ashamed all of a sudden.
He stood up, with his head down and walked out of the mountain.
He needed some time alone.
Sam turned to look at the rest of the managers and said.
"While I appreciate your help and gladly have it, if you harbor such thoughts, just leave. I believe we have benefitted mutually until now and with our common goal and journey in consideration, I would call us even.
You have until the end of the day to decide."
Some managers exchanged glances and some thought about Sam’s words.
Ivar on the other hand.
"So, did you cook the stew? I am hungry..."
Sam had a smirk on his face, when he heard those words and pointed at food he prepared for them. He then went back to the prototype on the table.
"It is almost there... Something that could truly bridge the gap between cultivators... Almost there..."
He muttered to himself as a smile bloomed on his face.
This is one of the main projects and the one he had been dreaming about for a long while.
He had taken down some pretty powerful people even when they had extremely high power difference.
He used tricks, formations, poisons, anything that he could use. But he hadn’t created something that would equalize the field. Like, he wanted to bypass and actually fight someone who has a higher level, toe to toe.
He did have a workable concept, but it felt unnecessary, because most of the threats were neutralized with formations and explosives.
But this time, he knew that there is a limit to what he can do with the formations.
And he also found a proper workaround for the biggest problem that stopped him from creating a suit like this.
The energy source.
Even when creating an artificial spiritual core, he has a limit to how powerful he can make it.
He would need years to nurture them properly. But Divine Inheritances basically erased that problem.
Now, he has everything he needs.
The purpose, the means, the energy... the only thing that he probably lacked right now is a cushioning mechanism that will help him reduce the impact on the body when he used this suit and also the metals.
The first one is already in the works and the second one is already being gathered.
Soon, this will be ready and he won’t have to worry about even the third graders, or probably even higher grade people.
