Chapter 2643: Chapter 2643: Chen Meili’s Connection Arrived
Yu Qi nodded. She had already noticed their presence nearby earlier. When she had checked with her own hidden bodyguards, they mentioned that they had also detected those other presences. Her leader had even gone to speak with them, and through that brief interaction, they confirmed the identity of those men. They were indeed the elite bodyguards of Grandpa Mu.
"In that case, I will take my leave first." Yu Qi said, giving a slight nod.
As Yu Qi stepped out of the room, she was immediately surrounded by a group of children.
"Sister Yu Qi, let’s play together!" One of the children chirped excitedly.
Yu Qi squatted down, lowering herself to meet the children’s eyes at their level. She gently placed her hand on the head of the child who had spoken, her expression softening.
"I am sorry, but I cannot play with you all right now. I have to leave because I have some work to do. Once I finish my work, I will come back and play with all of you, okay?" Yu Qi coaxed them patiently.
"Promise?" the children asked in unison, their eyes wide with expectation.
"Hmm... I promise." Yu Qi replied with a reassuring nod.
Only then did the children reluctantly let her leave. Yu Qi got into her car and drove toward the greenhouse. Upon seeing Yu Qi’s face, the security guards no longer stopped her, allowing her to enter the premises freely. As she approached Jung Lian, she heard a harsh, angry voice scolding him from a distance.
"How long do I need to wait? Where is the person who dared to fire my niece?" Chen Song, Chen Meili’s uncle, demanded in a thunderous voice, his anger unmistakable.
"She will arrive soon." Jung Lian answered calmly, his tone remaining remarkably steady despite the other’s aggression.
Yu Qi entered the room, her expression carved from ice, cold and utterly unreadable. The air itself seemed to still as she stepped inside, as if even the atmosphere recognised her presence.
When Chen Song heard the door swing open, he assumed it must be the person who had dared to fire his niece. He whirled around, his mouth already open to deliver a scathing reprimand, his anger barely contained.
"You must be the one who dared to dismiss my niece. I understand there may have been some misunderstanding in the orchards. However, as the Assistant Manager, I cannot allow a staff member to be fired without a proper HR review. You may hold a high position, but we have protocols—" Chen Song stopped mid-sentence.
The rest of his words died abruptly in his throat as he finally looked up and saw exactly who was standing in the doorway. The colour drained from his face in an instant.
Yu Qi narrowed her eyes slightly, her gaze sharp and piercing as it locked onto Chen Song, pressing down on him with invisible force.
"C-Chairwoman?!" Chen Song’s voice cracked painfully, the word breaking apart under the weight of his shock.
A faint, almost imperceptible curve touched Yu Qi’s lips, but there was no warmth in it.
"Oh... So you actually recognise me." Yu Qi said calmly with a light yet suffocating tone.
No one else in the room dared to make a sound.
She walked forward with measured, unhurried steps. The soft echo of her heels against the floor rang unnaturally loud in the silence, each step striking like a countdown.
Reaching the head of the long table, she pulled out the chair with deliberate precision and sat down gracefully, crossing one leg over the other. Her posture was relaxed, yet the pressure she exuded only grew heavier.
"Yes... I recognise you." Chen Song stammered, lowering his head immediately, as though even meeting her gaze for another second would be unbearable.
A bead of cold sweat slid down his temple. He did not dare to look at her again. It had never once crossed his mind that the person who fired his niece would be the Chairwoman herself. Bitter regret clawed at his chest for ever coming here so arrogantly. Slowly, stiffly, he turned his head and shot his niece a furious glare, his eyes filled with suppressed panic and blame.
"Mr. Chen, you mentioned a ’misunderstanding’ earlier. Did your niece explain to you exactly what she did to get herself fired by me?" Yu Qi asked, her tone calm but laced with an unmistakable edge.
"I... I was under the impression that it was a simple dispute between visitors." Chen Song replied weakly.
His earlier confidence had completely crumbled, leaving only unease behind.
"Oh... Then it seems she did not tell you the truth." Yu Qi replied, her eyes flicking briefly toward Chen Meili with quiet disdain.
Chen Meili felt her throat tighten instantly, her fingers trembling uncontrollably at her sides. Yesterday, she did not feel like this when facing Yu Qi.
"Chairwoman, please... tell me what she has done." Chen Song pleaded, his voice dropping lower as unease settled heavily in his chest.
Yu Qi leaned back slightly, her fingers resting lightly on the armrest, completely at ease.
"Very well, I will kindly enlighten you. I was with my grandfather, picking fruit, when your niece suddenly approached us. She accused me of being a mistress, a ’kept woman’ to my own grandfather. She insulted both my grandfather and me, then demanded that we get lost. I don’t believe we were doing anything suspicious enough to warrant such a horrible and baseless accusation." Yu Qi explained evenly.
Chen Song was completely paralysed with shock. His legs nearly gave out beneath him. Calling the Chairwoman a kept woman? In front of her own grandfather? Was his niece truly that foolish?
