Chapter 2785: Chapter 2785: Kill The Guards Who Laughed At The Captives
Fortunately, the medical researchers had not yet had the opportunity to begin their horrific experiments on this particular group before the sudden evacuation order had been issued. Unfortunately, that did not mean they were going to be spared. Instead, The organization had decided to eliminate every single one of them on the spot.
No witnesses.
No physical evidence.
No living survivors.
One of the armed mercenaries casually chambered a round into his rifle before looking at the frightened captives with a sickening, mocking smile.
"You people should actually consider yourselves lucky." That person sneered.
The captives stared back at him, confusion briefly mingling with the fear in their eyes. Lucky? Several of them instinctively raised their heads, desperate for any sign of mercy. For just a fleeting, cruel moment, a tiny spark of hope flickered inside their dark hearts.
Perhaps...
Perhaps they were finally going to be released. Perhaps this endless nightmare was finally coming to an end. Seeing the fragile hope gradually appear on their faces, the guard’s smile twisted into something even wider and more sadistic.
Then, he mercilessly shattered it to pieces.
"Because you would not end up becoming experimental subjects anymore." The guard snickered.
The captives’ eyes widened. Before anyone could make sense of his words, the guard laughed out loud.
"That’s because..." The guard deliberately paused, grinning viciously. "...you are all going to die right here instead."
The chamber instantly fell into a heavy, suffocating silence. Several captives felt their knees completely give way beneath them. Some burst into silent, hopeless tears. Others desperately bit their trembling lips until they bled to stop themselves from crying out loud.
The younger child buried his face against the older child’s shoulder, his small body shaking uncontrollably. The older child, despite being terrified out of his mind, instinctively stepped in front of the younger one, trying to shield the smaller boy with his own fragile body.
Seeing their horrified, broken expressions, the surrounding guards burst into even louder, cruel laughter.
"Don’t look so terrified. Next time, just pray that you are reborn as an animal." Another guard mocked, raising his weapon. He barked out a laugh before adding, "At least if you are lucky enough to become someone’s cute little house pet, you will actually be loved instead of ending up in a place like this."
The entire group of guards joined in the raucous laughter, as though they had just heard the most hilarious joke in the world.
Standing silently nearby under the complete protection of Invisible Mode, Yu Qi’s expression gradually turned ice-cold, her eyes void of any warmth. Beside her, Long Hui’s dark eyes turned dangerously sharp.
The suffocating, murderous aura surrounding the two of them quietly intensified, filling the air with a chilling pressure. Neither of them uttered a single word. Bound by invisible shadow, every single guard in that chamber had already been signed, sealed, and sentenced to complete destruction.
Yu Qi made her move without another moment of hesitation. This time, she did not even bother hiding her presence or acting secretively. She took one swift step forward and threw a punch straight at the nearest guard’s face. Unlike before, she did not hold back even the slightest bit of her strength.
Boom!
The instant her fist connected with the guard’s face, a horrifying crunch echoed throughout the chamber. The tremendous force shattered every bone in his face. His nose collapsed, his jaw fractured instantly, and fragments of bone exploded outward. His entire body was launched through the air like a cannonball before crashing violently into the concrete wall several meters away.
Bang!
The impact shook the wall. The guard slid limply onto the floor, leaving a heavy trail of blood behind him. He died instantly, without even having the opportunity to scream.
Everyone present froze in shock. The remaining guards stared blankly at the scene before them. Their companion had suddenly been sent flying as though struck by an invisible monster. For a brief second, none of them understood what had just happened.
"Who’s there?!" One of the guards suddenly shouted.
He immediately raised his assault rifle, pointing it wildly toward the empty air in front of him. The other guards finally snapped out of their daze and instinctively followed suit. Within moments, every rifle was aimed in different directions.
However, there was no one there. Only empty space.
The captives were equally stunned. They looked around nervously, completely unable to comprehend what had just transpired. Even though hope slowly began growing inside their hearts, none of them dared to move. If they made even the slightest sudden movement, they feared the panicked guards might mistake them for the invisible attacker and open fire.
Since Yu Qi had already revealed herself through her brutal attack, Long Hui no longer saw any reason to hold back either. He calmly stepped toward another guard. Without any unnecessary movement, he casually threw a punch.
The guard never even realised death had arrived. His chest caved inward from the terrifying impact before his body was hurled several meters backwards. He slammed heavily against another guard before both of them crashed onto the floor. The guard Long Hui had struck died immediately.
Seeing two of their companions die within mere seconds from attacks delivered by invisible entities, sheer panic finally erupted among the remaining guards. Their expressions turned deathly pale.
"Run!" Someone shrieked.
No one cared about their orders anymore. No one cared about executing the captives anymore. They simply wanted to survive. They had absolutely no idea what was slaughtering their men, nor did they wish to find out. If those invisible attackers wanted to rescue the captives, then they could have them! At least they would still be alive.
