Chapter 2794: Soul-Curse

Chapter 2794: Chapter 2794: Soul-Curse

"That is precisely what we are counting on." Yu Qi chuckled softly.

Hector Vaughn stared at Yu Qi.

Hector Vaughn blinked, staring at her in utter confusion. "You... you want them to trace the ping?"

"Yes." Yu Qi’s smile was audible beneath her mask. "We infiltrated this island to investigate MicroTech’s operations."

She slowly rose to her feet, her presence radiating an icy, overwhelming pressure.

"But after bearing witness to the sickening atrocities your people inflicted upon those helpless children..." Yu Qi paused, her tone dropping into a promise of absolute retribution. "...I want to see just how deep this rot actually runs."

A violent shudder ran straight down Hector Vaughn’s spine.

For the first time since this nightmare began, he realised that the total dismantling of his island base had never been their ultimate goal. These two individuals had not come merely to destroy a facility. They were hunting the entire global network. And he had just been rendered their involuntary key to the vault.

"Provide the access keys." Yu Qi ordered.

Hector Vaughn bowed his head, his hands trembling so hard he could barely hold them steady. After a agonizing internal struggle, he let out a long, defeated breath.

"Fine..." Hector Vaughn whispered, broken. "I will tell you everything."

"Good." Yu Qi approved.

At that moment, small footsteps sounded across the deck as Xiaohua and Xiaoliu jogged up from the perimeter.

"Master!" Xiaohua called out, waving her hand enthusiastically.

"We have fully secured our assigned sectors," Xiaoliu added in his usual calm, measured tone.

Yu Qi turned toward the two children, her cold aura instantly softening. "Excellent work, both of you."

Xiaohua pointed a chubby finger down at the trembling Hector Vaughn. "Can we put him to sleep now like the rest?" she asked innocently.

"Not yet." Yu Qi shook her head. "We still require his assistance."

"Alright." Xiaohua nodded obediently, though a bright, mischievous smile immediately bloomed across her face as she locked eyes with the terrified director.

Hector Vaughn’s jaw twitched nervously. Looking at the cheerful, dangerous smile on the young girl’s face, a terrible premonition settled into his gut, and his instincts told him he was going to regret surviving this day.

Hector Vaughn spilt whatever information he possessed regarding the organisation. Aside from Blackstone Island, MicroTech owned numerous other isolated islands purchased specifically to be transformed into black-site research facilities hidden far from public oversight.

Yu Qi pressed him on the experiments combining cultivation and superpowered humans. Hector Vaughn went silent, visibly reluctant to divulge those particulars. However, after Xiaohua casually pricked his finger with one of her sharp thorns, he quickly abandoned his silence.

"The superpowered human trials have been running for a long time." Hector Vaughn confessed, his voice trembling. "They used to be conducted right here on this island. But once new facilities were constructed elsewhere, they transferred those primary experiments away. I genuinely don’t know the exact details of what they are working on now!"

"Oh, really?" Yu Qi tilted her head, her voice dripping with scepticism. "That’s strange, because I recovered some interesting data from one of your lead researchers’ terminals. It outlines active superpowered human experiments conducted in this very lab. If what you just said was true, it means you have been running unauthorised trials behind your organisation’s back."

Yu Qi smiled coldly beneath her rabbit mask.

Hector Vaughn froze, utterly stunned that she had already unearthed that hidden data. "You..."

"Let me enlighten you on something." Yu Qi interrupted smoothly. "No matter how many times you run those experiments, you will never achieve your desired result unless the subject already possesses a dormant connection to the power you’re trying to harvest."

"What?!" Hector Vaughn demanded. "What do you know about it? What ’connection’ are you talking about?"

"The inheritance. The bloodline," Yu Qi stated plainly before elaborating. "You crave that incredible power for yourself. You foolishly believed that if a test subject successfully unlocked it, you could simply harvest that energy and transfer it into your own body."

Yu Qi shook her head in disdain. "Stop dreaming."

"What? No! That’s not true! Master Liang said otherwise!" Hector Vaughn blurted out defensively.

Yu Qi’s eyes narrowed beneath her mask. She caught the slip instantly. "Master Liang... Who is he?"

The moment the name left his lips, Hector Vaughn’s expression shifted drastically. His face drained of all colour, and he began shaking his head frantically, overtaken by absolute horror.

"You are still trying to hide information at a time like this?" Yu Qi chided. "You really don’t understand your situation."

Suddenly, Long Hui sensed an abrupt, dangerous spike in energy. His expression changed instantly. Without a second’s delay, Long Hui grabbed Yu Qi by the waist and surged backwards, putting distance between them and the panicked director.

"Brother Hui?" Yu Qi was surprised.

"Something’s wrong!" Long Hui stated.

Long Hui’s sharp gaze remained locked on Hector Vaughn.

A second later, Hector Vaughn’s body violently detonated from within.

Boom!

Long Hui instantly deployed a powerful spiritual barrier around himself and Yu Qi, deflecting the lethal shockwave, flying debris, and smoke.

Yu Qi stared in shock at the charred crater where Hector Vaughn had been standing moments prior.

"What just happened?" Yu Qi asked.

"It seems ’Master Liang’ implanted a localised soul-curse or explosive trigger inside him." Long Hui frowned, analysing the residual energy. "If he attempted to divulge classified secrets, it would automatically detonate."

"The trigger word must have been ’Master Liang’." Yu Qi deduced.

"Hmm." Long Hui agreed.

"It appears the mastermind behind MicroTech ensured their key operatives could never betray the inner circle." Yu Qi surveyed the smoking remains.

"They anticipated their regional directors eventually being captured." Long Hui added.
