Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

Princess Xinyang’s face remained straight as she said, “It was a mosquito bite. Not what you’re thinking.”

Yu Jin continued combing her hair. “Oh.”

From her tone, Princess Xinyang could tell she did not believe it. With a sigh, she insisted, “It really was a mosquito bite!”

“As you say, Your Highness.” Yu Jin raised her brows, gathered the smoothed strands of hair into a bun, and pinned it with a white jade hairpin atop Princess Xinyang’s head. “Lord Marquis only left at midnight…”

Princess Xinyang clenched her teeth. “That was because Yiyi cried all night!”

Yu Jin smiled faintly. “As you say, Your Highness.”

Anyway, I don’t believe it!

Princess Xinyang was left with no way to defend herself, when just at that moment, Marquis Xuanping strode in looking refreshed and spirited.

Men and women truly were different. Though both had only gone to bed at midnight, she was exhausted beyond measure, while he was brimming with energy.

Princess Xinyang shot him a glance, only to notice that on his neck, too, there was a mark strikingly similar to the one on her own.

Sensing her gaze, Marquis Xuanping asked, “Qin Fengwen, why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my neck?”

He turned to check himself in the bronze mirror. “When did I get bitten? No wonder it’s been itching.”

Yu Jin stifled a laugh.

Princess Xinyang glared at her.

Yu Jin tried to hold back her smile and said, “Lord Marquis, was it a mosquito that bit you? Could it be a person instead?”

The two of you were far too passionate last night!

Yu Jin had truly misunderstood. Nothing had happened the night before and it really was just the mosquitoes. Now that she thought about it, Little Yiyi’s crying was not entirely due to the noisy opera troupe. Perhaps she too had been bitten.

But how was she supposed to convince Yu Jin otherwise?

Princess Xinyang was so vexed she felt like hitting someone.

Yet in Marquis Xuanping’s eyes, her expression conveyed something entirely different. Leaning lazily against the dressing table, he let out a cold laugh. “Qin Fengwen, are you suspecting that I went out last night to find another woman?”

Princess Xinyang cast a frigid glance at Yu Jin. This was all her fault.

Yu Jin squeezed the comb in her hand. “Ah, I think I just heard Jing Kong’s voice! I’ll go check on him!”

With that, she bolted from the room in a flash.

Princess Xinyang could not be bothered to explain.

After all, even if she did explain, it would be useless. He always had a hundred reasons not to listen.

“You can go to whomever you want, it has nothing to do with me.” She stood up coldly and walked toward the cradle.

Marquis Xuanping looked at her back and suddenly spoke, “I didn’t go. I come here every night, so where would I have the time to look for another woman?”

Princess Xinyang held onto the cradle, not turning back, and said in a cold tone, “If you want to go, then go. I can take care of Yiyi myself.”

Marquis Xuanping raised his brows and said: “That won’t do, you can’t coax her.”

Princess Xinyang took a deep breath, silently warning herself to stay calm. She absolutely must not beat him to death, otherwise Yiyi would be left without a father.

“Then why did you come over in the morning? Yiyi doesn’t even cry in the morning!”

At least she finally caught him in a mistake!

Marquis Xuanping sighed innocently, “Today our daughter-in-law is offering tea. Since you didn’t go to the Marquis Estate, I had no choice but to come to the Princess Mansion instead.”

Princess Xinyang clenched her fists. This was indeed… an irrefutable reason!

For the sake of her son and daughter-in-law, Princess Xinyang suppressed the blazing fury in her chest and decided not to argue with this infuriating man.

The two of them sat down in the room.

As soon as Little Yiyi opened her eyes and saw her handsome father, she flailed her arms and legs in joy.

“Where’s Qing’er?” Marquis Xuanping held his daughter in his arms and asked Qin Fengwen.

Princess Xinyang replied, “It’s not yet the hour for him to return. He should have taken Jing Kong out.”

Otherwise, Jing Kong would surely have been running all over the estate looking for Gu Jiao by now.

Marquis Xuanping said, “Then…”

Princess Xinyang snapped, “Stop talking!”

Little Yiyi: “Waaah——”

“You too!”

Both father and daughter obediently shut their mouths.

The two exchanged looks.

Marquis Xuanping looked at the daughter in his arms with grievance. Your mother is so fierce.

Little Yiyi looked pitifully at her father. Your wife is so fierce.

Princess Xinyang dressed in splendid attire, preparing to welcome her new role as mother-in-law.

But from morning to noon, and then from noon to evening, she waited. Even when the sun had already set, the two little ones still had not come.

Marquis Xuanping stood up with a smile, gracefully flicking the wide sleeve of his robe, “As expected of this Marquis’s son!”

Princess Xinyang: “…!!”

……

Lanting Courtyard.

Xiao Heng slowly woke in the dim glow of dusk.

In truth, he had already woken once before. But when he saw Gu Jiao sleeping so sweetly in his arms, he couldn’t bear to wake her, and so he drowsily fell asleep again.

Thick curtains covered the doors and windows, plunging the room into darkness, making it impossible to distinguish day from night.

It wasn’t until a ray of golden dusk light slipped through the crack of the curtain and scattered upon the red gauze canopy that specks of brilliance lit up the room.

The light shimmered faintly, falling upon Gu Jiao’s tightly shut eyes.

He raised his hand to shield her eyes from the light.

He kept his hand in that position for a long time. Even though his arm grew stiff, he felt no fatigue.

If it weren’t for… in truth, he could have…

The person in his arms stirred, letting out a muffled murmur from her small lips.

“JiaoJiao, are you awake?” He asked softly.

Gu Jiao opened one eye, glanced at him, then quickly closed it again, “Not awake yet, still want to sleep.”

Wait, why was her voice so hoarse?

It didn’t even sound like her own voice.

And her legs, it didn’t even feel like her own anymore.

She couldn’t move.

Her whole body was sore.

What on earth had happened last night?

During the first half of their wedding night, everything still followed a rather normal pattern. The pair, though inexperienced in practice, were nevertheless well-versed in theory, and after some awkward fumbling, they still managed to complete the deed.

It was just that the first experience was not very pleasant.

So the two of them decided to try again.

At that moment, Gu Jiao felt thirsty. She accidentally drank flower-brewed liquor, mistaking it for water. From that point onward, everything spiraled out of control.

Xiao Heng had no choice but to dismiss all the servants in the courtyard and ordered that no one was to return without his instructions.

That was also why, during the day, not a single person went to Princess Xinyang’s residence to report on what was happening in Lanting Courtyard.

Gu Jiao vaguely remembered opening her little medicine chest, but she had no idea what she had taken out from it…

Or perhaps that indecent box had conjured up something indecent again…

“You’re awake.” Xiao Heng said.

Gu Jiao kept her eyes closed, “I’m not.”

Gurgle~

Gu Jiao’s stomach growled.

The specks of light shifted to another spot and no longer shone directly onto her eyes. Xiao Heng lowered his stiffened arm, gently brushing her soft cheek, “Get up and eat something.”

Gu Jiao moved her long legs, and Xiao Heng drew in a sharp breath, his voice husky, “JiaoJiao, don’t move.”

Gu Jiao went still.

It wasn’t that she was obedient, but rather that she truly didn’t have the strength to move anymore.

How could this be even more exhausting than fighting a battle… even if she fought through an entire night, she wouldn’t end up with her waist and legs this sore and weak.

Just what exactly had she done last night?

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
