Diary of a Dead Wizard

Chapter 1014: Heart of Slaughter

Upon receiving Saul’s promise, a glimmer of amusement flashed in Douglas’s eyes.

It was a kind of satisfaction from controlling everything.

He looked toward the north, where the existence of the Abyssal Eye was as conspicuous to Douglas as the sun in the sky.

However, this conspicuous existence was currently shrouded in dense death energy.

Observing it through the death weaving method, the abyss was simply a ball of yarn composed of death.

Those messy loose threads extended from the deepest part of the ocean, like drowning travelers desperately trying to grasp all the duckweed they could see.

Douglas withdrew his gaze. Since the wizards here wanted to force another bottle of poison down the abyss’s throat to accelerate its death, he could certainly cooperate.

Anyway, the abyss had already begun taking action, and death was dancing at the intersection of worlds.

Douglas could already vaguely see the direction the world was heading.

Although he was more inclined to observe the Abyssal Eye’s annihilation, ultimately, regardless of who survived or who completely stepped into death, it would be beneficial to Douglas.

But privately, he actually looked forward more to a third kind of ending, which was why he had been so careful to hide his identity before, balancing the strength and trump cards of both sides.

Oh right, there was also a very crucial tool.

Douglas looked at Saul, who warily looked back at him.

He suddenly spoke, breaking the standoff, “I discovered an interesting structure beneath the island.”

“That’s the Mechanical Heart, the power source that allows this Sky City to float in the sky.” Saul shared the intelligence he knew. “However, its energy source is quite special—all dead low-rank wizards become its nourishment.”

After Saul finished speaking, the three people across from him showed no surprise whatsoever.

Gorsa and Frim obviously already knew this.

And for Douglas, sacrificing low-rank wizards was just an inefficient method he looked down upon.

“I could tell, but it’s useless.” Douglas said bluntly.

Of course it was useless.

Perhaps Ophelia had previously wanted to use the Mechanical Heart to complete her fifth-rank advancement ritual, but later she changed direction and chose to advance to the fifth rank by converting herself into a water sprite.

Unfortunately, fourth-rank wizards still couldn’t completely change life forms, so she had to give up again.

Later, Ophelia disappeared to who knows where.

She wasn’t secluded in Sky City, nor was she visible anywhere else in the world.

It was as if she had deliberately hidden herself.

Douglas didn’t care about Sky City’s former master. “I don’t have much confidence in wanting to mislead the Abyssal Eye either. However, I have some insights into death, so I can make some modifications here through information in this area.”

Frim frowned slightly, neither agreeing nor disagreeing with Douglas’s choice. However, he was here to help and had no say in the matter.

But Gorsa wouldn’t be as polite as Frim. “I don’t have much research into the power of death. If you’re going to design it this way, I might not be of much help.”

Douglas said indifferently, “You can follow my instructions, or you can do something on your own. This place is big enough anyway.”

He obviously didn’t care whether Gorsa joined or not.

Gorsa chuckled and turned to ask Saul, “I’m planning to try something myself. What about you?”

Who would have expected Saul to say, “I also understand death weaving somewhat, so I’ll research together with Wizard Douglas.”

Gorsa made a gesture of raising his eyebrows, as if he hadn’t expected Saul to choose to cooperate with Douglas.

However, even if his little apprentice hadn’t stood on his side, it didn’t affect Gorsa’s decision. “Then you all take your time. I’m going to take a look at the White Glass Palace.”

After speaking, Gorsa ignored the others and disappeared in a flash. ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ 𝓷𝓸𝓿𝓮𝓵⁂𝓯𝓲𝓻𝓮⁂𝓷𝓮𝓽

Saul also didn’t look at the departing Gorsa and directly said to Douglas, “Shall we start now?”

Douglas looked at Saul with deep meaning. “Don’t play tricks with me.”

Saul shrugged. “What do you have to fear? Afraid we’ll use too much force and directly kill the Abyssal Eye?”

Only then did Douglas withdraw his gaze. “Let’s go down.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Saul felt as if he was being stretched, becoming a thin thread that spun in the air before suddenly diving downward, drilling into the soil.

Frim beside him was the same.

They were directly dragged by Douglas into the Mechanical Heart.

Along the way they encountered layers of array restrictions, but they had almost no effect in front of Douglas.

Douglas was like casually poking through several layers of gauze, easily breaking through the entire Sky City’s defenses.

Only at this moment did Saul experience a fifth-rank wizard’s advantage in space.

The other party hadn’t actually broken through the defensive magical arrays, but had directly bypassed the defenses on another level.

After arriving in the wizard world, he seemed finally willing to display a tiny bit of a fifth-rank wizard’s power.

Saul only felt that the originally three-dimensional world seemed to instantly become a two-dimensional plane, while he became a point jumping out of the plane.

This point rapidly jumped in the space outside the plane, so that the afterimage became a line.

This gave Saul the illusion that he had been stretched.

But actually, he had been compressed.

In the blink of an eye, Saul was standing inside the Mechanical Heart again.

This experience was also different from entering the Prismatic World. But the underlying principle seemed about the same—both involved jumping out of the original level.

Just like Saul’s fate lines. He was clearly enveloping the sky above Sky City and still continuously growing. But when Saul didn’t want to show himself, even Douglas couldn’t see the fate lines’ existence.

“Jumping out of the original level, world, cognition?”

Saul stood in the Mechanical Heart’s room, motionless for a long time, until Douglas directly pulled the Mechanical Heart’s core from the ceiling and threw it in front of the other, only then did he come back to his senses.

“I’m going to transform this thing into a Heart of Slaughter.”

Frim raised his hand and sent a light orb into the Mechanical Heart’s interior. Soon the light orb returned to his palm and drilled in.

“I sensed a very regular life force. But this regularity is too simple and crude, causing its life to be as rigid as machinery.”

Douglas said, “So it’s a useless thing. Can only be put to waste utilization now.”

As he spoke, some black shadows appeared on his body. The shadows bared their fangs and claws as they pounced into the Mechanical Heart.

The iron-gray Mechanical Heart immediately spewed flesh-colored, foamy paste from various orifices and pipes.

These disgusting substances flowed to the ground, emitting a fragrant aroma like freshly baked white bread.

“There’s quite a bit of death energy on this.” Saul waved his hand in front of his nose, not liking this smell.

“That’s exactly why it’s suitable for transformation into a Heart of Slaughter.” Douglas said. “Let’s begin now. You two…”

Douglas began commanding the two without ceremony.

Meanwhile, Gorsa, who was strolling through the White Glass Palace, walked with his hands behind his back to the throne where Ophelia had once sat.

A few days ago, Saul had also waited here for Ophelia’s response.

Gorsa patted the hard stone seat and shook his head, obviously very much disliking this kind of hard chair.

But he still turned and sat down.

Just as he sat down, Gorsa discovered a small soul fragment squeezing out from the middle of the chair back. Then, seemingly recognizing the familiar Gorsa, it suddenly merged into the back of his head.
