Chapter 249: 033: High-level Wizard
…
Perhaps it was because of Avery?
Lynch felt that he wasn’t so perverted to begin with; it was simply Avery’s indulgence. Regardless of what unreasonable demands he made, she was always willing to comply…
By the time he came back to his senses, it was already the next morning. Lynch was still full of energy, but he had to consider the other party’s endurance. After all, Avery wasn’t part of the Refining System—at most, she had taken a few magic potions to enhance her physical qualities, but she wasn’t much stronger than an ordinary person. After a night of relentless exertion, it was visibly apparent that her body had weakened, her breathing labored.
Once their desires were sated, it was time for an exchange of minds.
The two of them made breakfast together, sharing amusing anecdotes from their recent experiences.
“I only just realized how magnificent the ocean truly is…”
Lynch chatted with her about his recent adventures. Of course, after weighing the pros and cons, he decided to omit details about the magic energy alchemy research. After all, revealing those things wouldn’t benefit either of them and might even pose risks.
“A Sea Clan funeral? Playing music for a two-headed octopus… Just listening to your description makes it sound fascinating. The underwater scenery must be incredibly beautiful, right? I really wish I had been there.” Avery said with envy.
Lynch picked her up and set her on the nearby dining table to free up space for cooking. Smiling, he replied, “That’s easy. If you want to go, we can go anytime. The catfish monster left me a conch shell—communication is very convenient.”
“I do want to…” Avery sounded tempted but quickly shook her head. “But I better not.”
After a pause, she continued, “There’s still a pile of matters to deal with within the family. Aside from the time I need for cultivation, most of my spare time has to be spent on these things. I’m lucky enough to have carved out a free moment today—there’s just no time for it.”
If there was one thing about Avery that Lynch wasn’t satisfied with, it would undoubtedly be her background.
Especially in recent years, it was visibly clear that she had become increasingly busy. Apart from her cultivation time, most of her hours were consumed by family affairs. Sometimes, they wouldn’t even see each other for an entire year, which seriously disrupted their life together.
Lynch wasn’t overly sensitive or dramatic, but there were times when he honestly felt that if Avery didn’t have her current status, his life with her would undoubtedly flow more smoothly.
He advised her, “There’s no need to handle everything personally. Just leave what can be delegated to others and let them do it. Believe me, the world won’t stop turning without you—it’s unnecessary to shoulder everything yourself.”
“I’m sorry,” Avery said apologetically.
She understood Lynch’s frustrated feelings about their prolonged separations. It was precisely for this reason that whenever they did meet, she did her best to cater to his every whim, turning herself into a plaything for him to cradle and toy with in bed.
Avery sighed softly. “I’d love to be a hands-off leader too, but now is not the time. Many things I have to personally oversee. Only by personally taking control can I truly seize power.”
After a pause, her tone turned impassioned. “Seizing power will allow me to rewrite the rules, and only then can I control our destiny!”
All of Avery’s efforts were ultimately for Lynch—for the sake of twisting the rules so that she could marry him and become a true wife in name.
Lynch frowned. “There’s really no need for all this…”
He meant it sincerely. Lynch genuinely felt their current situation was perfect. On the contrary, if they were to officially marry… Sure, this society’s marital system granted abundant privileges, but it demanded proportional responsibilities in return.
As the heir to a large Wizard family, if Avery truly married him, he would inevitably be forced to act as the family’s head.
At that point, every quibbling detail, every trivial annoyance would inevitably become a burden on his shoulders. His time for cultivation would be eaten away, and his freedom to sail the seas and explore distant lands would disappear. Fancy looking at the little stream in front of their house? That would probably be as good as it’d get…
Overall, as irresponsible as it might sound, Lynch genuinely felt that their current arrangement without marriage was more comfortable and fulfilling.
Of course, Avery didn’t share his perspective. After all, the resources she could command as part of the Tavendish family were immeasurable. Becoming her legal husband would grant him the rights to utilize those resources—a benefit that no Wizard could possibly ignore.
Lynch’s words were simply out of concern for her, not wanting her to overburden herself.
With this in mind, Avery felt suddenly reinvigorated, as if the fatigue that had weighed her down for days had evaporated in that moment.
She proclaimed with determination, “Don’t worry, I can do it. I promise you!”
Lynch said no more. With words exchanged to this extent and such efforts already underway, he felt that expressing his true thoughts might come across as disrespectful to Avery…
One step at a time—that was his approach. What’s meant to come, they’d face when it came.
After that, their conversation shifted to matters of cultivation. Avery, not long ago, leveraged the effects of Su Ya Water to successfully advance to the Wizard rank, and she’d begun her education in the Wizard levels.
As the chatting continued, the topic soon turned to meditation.
Avery asked, “By the way, is your cultivation progressing smoothly? Why do I feel like the Deep Meditation Method I learned is somewhat different from the one I taught you?”
Having formally begun studying Deep Meditation, Avery astutely noticed that the Deep Meditation Method she had given Lynch seemed slightly different from what she was currently learning. But given her current limited understanding of Wizard-level knowledge, she couldn’t pinpoint exactly where the discrepancies lay or what they meant.
Lynch shook his head casually and said, “It’s nothing. Deep Meditation Laws inherently differ. What you study and what I study should naturally be from different sources. My cultivation is going smoothly—there’s no issue.”
“Is that so?”
Hearing that from Lynch, Avery no longer harbored doubts. Smiling brightly, she said, “Good to hear your progress is steady. I had to pay a hefty price and beg the family for ages before I managed to get this Deep Meditation Rule. It wasn’t easy!”
She puffed out her chest slightly with pride, exclaiming confidently, “That’s why I keep telling you not to worry about the current rules. Look, I’ve already altered the Deep Meditation Rules, haven’t I?”
“If I can change the rules for Deep Meditation, I can absolutely change the rules for marriage!” she finished resolutely.
Listening to her words, Lynch found his earlier concerns starting to fade away.
He nodded and said, “Alright, I trust you.”
…
Time returned to calm once more, and the days passed by in cultivation.
[Deep Meditation Proficiency +1]
Spring turned to autumn, and countless years flowed by in the blink of an eye, ushering them into another autumn.
It was still the same forest.
In the forest, the scenery was picturesque. The trees were draped in golden and fiery red hues, their leaves falling gently like raindrops, carpeting the forest paths with soft layers that crunched beneath every step. The sunlight peeked through the sparse branches, casting dappled shadows that infused the forest with a sense of warmth and mystery. In the distance, the mountain ridges blazed with autumn colors, vibrant and radiant, like an intricately painted masterpiece.
Fairies busied themselves darting between the trees, preparing for the cold winter. As their population flourished and grew, the Fairy society began to show signs of hierarchy.
Some of the older Fairies reclined lazily against tree trunks, basking in the sunlight and enjoying the splendor of the crimson leaves, reveling in peace and tranquility.
Meanwhile, others scurried around collecting nectar, resin, wild fruits—even wrestling with squirrels for nuts. When they failed to bring back sufficient food, they faced scolding and humiliation from higher-ranking Fairies, making their society a peculiar microcosm of absurdity.
In this autumn season, everything was directed toward preparing for the impending harsh winter. Meanwhile, Lynch’s strength, after years of hard work, finally transitioned from spiritual power liquefaction to solidification, marking his ascension to a higher tier.
The pinnacle tier of this land—the apex of power—
