Black Quantiarch: The Progenitor's Odyssey

Chapter 97: The Assassination 3

Luna quickly closed her eyes that were actually slightly bloodshot because of her anger, taking deep breath to calm her raging emotions down.

She certainly was smart enough to tell at a glance that the Divine Grade Artifact was not something the assassins could've owned by himself meaning it was definitely given to him by the one who hired him.

Since Divine Grade Artifact were absolutely not some random roadside trash that just anyone could own them, let alone this Early Rank One Pseudo-Divine Phase assassin.

Moreover even her own family which could be considered as one of the strongest Pseudo-Divine Phase families out there, only had a maximum of 5 Divine Grade Artifact.

Meanwhile Wix's heart shuddered..

"A Divine Grade Artifact." She muttered, her obsidian gaze quivering, locked on to the obsidian ring in her twin sisters hand.

"A Divine Artifact. Huh?" She repeated with a dry lough. Finding the situation, now even more funny already having come to the same conclusion as her twin sister.

Freya observing Luna and Wix's grim expressions just sighed inwardly and confirmed with a wry gaze.

"Indeed. It's A Divine Grade Artifact. Albeit a low level and a heavily damaged one, that the assassin used to conceal himself and infiltrate the mansion."

She nodded, afterwards she inhaled a long breath to collect her thoughts, her expression appearing slightly exhausted.

"Lady Evelynn was indeed right, she had certainly mentioned to us last night about this Low Level Divine Grade Artifact whilst trying to reassure us, as for why we were unable to sense that assassin, however we were so lost in our own dejected emotions and depressing thoughts that we completely ignored her."

At Freya's words Wix had her eyes tremble, finally understanding why she had that strange feeling earlier as though she was forgetting something however there was no point in knowing that know.

Therefore she too sighed with a weary look on her face. "It's not surprising that we were unable to sense him if he had a Divine Grade Artifact on himself."

"Even if the Artifact itself is badly damaged and most of its runes etched on it are completely dull, either not working at all or are working with some major flaws, at the end of the days it is still a divine artifact.. "

"No.. " Luna argued, her eyes narrowed, focused on the obsidian ring in her palm, her expression having returned to her normal self, calm and composed.

"Hmn.. this Artifact.. " she mumbled thoughtfully. "Although divine in grade. Is certainly heavily damaged just as Freya had mentioned earlier. And if we had been a little more vigilant or had our guards up, instead of how relaxed we were last night.. " Than she shifted her attention towards her sisters, Wix and Freya.

"I think we would've definitely sensed something amiss or might even have sensed the assassin himself even before he succeed in breaking into the mansion."

At Luna words both Wix and Freya immediately fell into deep contemplation. A minute later Freya suddenly nodded in agreement. "Hm. I think you're absolutely correct, Luna."

"We certainly are at the peak of the second phase of ascension and there obviously aren't that many people who are stronger than us or even are as strong as us, in this phase of ascension out there. So indeed.. "

"If we had been better prepared and weren't so laid back in our attitude towards the safety of the mansion because of the Peak Pseudo-Divine Grade protective inscriptions and runes encrypted and inscribed on this mansion, we definitely would've sensed that assassins presence and aura."

"Besides, this dull obsidian ring although a divine grade artifact.. " after pointing towards the said ring, Freya continued.

"With a plane and normal appearance, certainly something a concealment type artifact should have, isn't exactly that strong enough to obscure that assassins presence from us if we genuinely put our minds into finding him."

Than her brows furrowed. "However! The big question is, how did a assassin who is only in his second phase of ascension got ahold of a divine artifact of all things."

Luna smirked in derision. "Of course. It was given to him. An assassin having a Divine Grade Artifact whilst we ourselves who came from such Nobel families don't have one. That is just absurd and sounds ridiculous instead." She chuckled in contempt.

"Anyways.. " Wix yawned, while stretching her body at the same time. "Did you find out about anything as for who ordered the assassination on our master. Although Lady Evelynn had indeed gone to investigate this particular issue nevertheless it still wouldn't hurt if we did a little bit of investigation of our own."

Freya shook her head with a source expression. "Unfortunately there was nothing else present in that assassins spatial ring that would've given us some clues regarding what you just asked. I even invaded his memories through his dreams yet there was nothing in them, they were completely blank and empty to the point that it seemed like he was just born a few days ago."

"So you're implying that someone had actually wiped a pseudo-divine's memories, even before the attempted assassination ~ "

Freya nodded at Luna words. "Indeed. They were so through in erasing all the clues that could potentially lead to thier identities being discovered that the poor assassin didn't even remember his own name or even the fact that he was a shadowvail spirit. They completely wiped his very identity from his memories even so there were still a few bits of information in his mind and that.. "

Freya suddenly stopped when she remembered those memories, biting her lower lips in frustration, her fists clenched in fury, hard enough that her skin cracked, her fingernails digging into her palms while her crimson blood dripped on the smooth tiles below like a flowing water.

Luna had her brows wrinkled in displeasure, not liking how Freya was harming herself yet she still asked in a calm voice since she could tell that Freya was really infuriated by the memories she saw in that assassins head.

"What did you see Freya, tell us." Luna questioned, her tone demanding.

At her loud voice Freya too immediately came out of her reverie. "I.. I'm sorry." She apologized wearily.

"It is perfectly alright. You can calm your mind first after that you can tell us what are these memories that made you this distressed."

Luna comforted, her voice gentle something out of her calm shell, her expression worried for Freya, yet also curious about the memories themselves.

Freya nodded and after a minute she finally opened her mouth, her crimson-red gaze locked with her two sisters.

"That assassin.. he was told by a blurry figure in some unknown room or maybe an unknown place since there wasn't any light in that area and the assassin himself was also disoriented and confused form what I saw in his memories. He was told to kill our Master and.. and have his body be dilevered to that blurry figure in that same place within a week."

Although Freya had certainly started speaking steadily after collecting her thoughts even so her voice still could not help but crack at the end in powerlessness.
