Abyss Sequence

Chapter 48: The Second Elf

Swish, swish, swish—

The rushing stream plunged straight down from a height along the mountain wall, splashing on the lake surface below.

Yan Luo followed the stream and found a lake, with a waterfall existing on the other end of the lake.

He started a fire by the lake and put the fat he harvested this morning on a stone to grill.

The fat sizzled, and a large amount of oil seeped out.

While walking through the forest this morning, Yan Luo discovered a plant that somewhat resembled a gourd. He picked the gourd-like fruit, thinking it might serve as a container.

Not knowing how to make a gourd container, Yan Luo cut off the top half of the gourd, hollowed out the inside of the lower half, and tied it up with vines, thus making a crude bowl.

He extracted the oils from the fat and used a stone with a depression to hold it, setting it aside to cool before pouring it into the 'gourd bowl.'

He wasn't sure if this was useful since he had never learned any of this stuff.

There were still quite a bit of oils on the surface of the stones over the fire, so Yan Luo placed slices of meat on them to grill.

Suniya sat nearby, wanting to give Yan Luo some pointers, but because of the language barrier, even if she spoke, he wouldn't understand what she was saying.

So Suniya could only keep quiet and watched Yan Luo's actions silently.

When the meat slices were cooked, Yan Luo tasted one and found it more flavorful than the previous meals, but something was still off about the taste.

"It really doesn't work without salt."

Yan Luo looked at the remaining slices of meat, a bit at a loss.

Thinking it over, Yan Luo turned his gaze to Suniya.

"W-What are you doing?" Suniya shrank her neck, suddenly a bit frightened.

Yan Luo got up and walked towards Suniya, saying "Sorry," then reached towards her waist pouch.

He didn't know if elves in this world needed to replenish salt, but based on the salty taste he experienced from animal blood when drinking it, animals in this world likely needed salt.

If so, elves probably wouldn't be an exception.

After a day and a half of observation, Suniya was certain this human had no interest in her, so she didn't scream when Yan Luo fumbled for her waist pouch.

—After all, screaming wouldn't help.

Soon, Yan Luo found a small packet of fine salt wrapped in silk in Suniya's waist pouch.

It seemed that elves in this world already had the ability to refine salt, but she only brought this little amount. There were two possibilities—this elf was sure she wouldn't be out for long, so she carried just a small amount of salt; or perhaps this captured elf was of high status and had access to such grade of salt.

The white salt grains were pinched up by Yan Luo and sprinkled onto the meat slices.

Suniya watched from the side, unable to help but feel distressed, "Use a little less!"

Yan Luo glanced at her.

He didn't understand what Suniya was saying, but from her expression, this elf seemed somewhat dissatisfied with the amount of salt he was using.

Thus, it could be confirmed that the civilization behind the elves probably didn't possess large-scale salt production capabilities.

Thinking of this, Yan Luo narrowed his eyes.

If what that metal plate described was true, the humans of Blue Star had such tremendous power in the past, but it took thousands of years before the technology for large-scale salt production was developed, indicating that 'power' did not equate to 'technology.'

The thin sword didn't have any engraving on its surface, yet it could trigger abilities, suggesting that the elves in this world were much more advanced in magic power utilization than the humans of Blue Star in the present era.

After a moment of thought, Yan Luo came up with an answer—

Profitable!

In modern society, everything requires money, and if he wanted to deal with the Abyssal Believers, he would need a lot of money.

Currently, he was the only one with the means to traverse both worlds; maybe he could find a way to communicate with the elves of this world, enabling them to engage in trade with Blue Star through him.

However, there were some issues that needed addressing.

Firstly, Yan Luo didn't know how high the upper limit of extraordinary power in this world was, whether there were any formidable individuals comparable to Sequence One; secondly, if he intended to trade with this world's elves, his own strength was also a concern—if he wasn't strong enough, the Jade that enabled communication between the two worlds might be taken away.

Thinking of this, Yan Luo felt it was time to start training.

While in Lingquan City before, Yan Luo hadn't consumed any booster gemstone powder; he now carried all three portions with him.

While eating meat slices, Yan Luo took out one portion of gemstone powder, poured it into his mouth, and swallowed it down with water.

Seeing Yan Luo's actions, Suniya was a bit dumbfounded.

What was that thing? Why did she feel that it contained abundant magic power... no, how could this human just consume it?

Suniya widened her eyes, "What did you eat?"

She had forgotten that Yan Luo didn't understand her words again.

Yan Luo gave Suniya a puzzled look, continuing to share the meat slices with her.

His body gradually heated up, yet Yan Luo remained calm as he continued eating, only standing up after finishing all the meat in front of him and walking toward Suniya.

At this moment, Yan Luo was emitting white steam all over, his skin flushed as if he had taken an aphrodisiac.

Suniya shrank back in fear, screaming, "No! No!"

Yan Luo reached out for her, while Suniya tried to twist away with all her strength, but his grip was too strong, making it impossible for her to escape.

"Ah!!" Suniya screamed, tears and snot flowing.

With rough techniques, Yan Luo set Suniya's right hand joint back in place and then reached for her legs, ignoring whether it pained Suniya or not, he helped her reset her joints.

Suniya lay trembling on the ground, too ashamed to lift her head.

Because it was extremely painful just now, she had quite literally soiled herself...

After a long time, Suniya finally calmed down, wiping away the dried tears before turning her head to look at the lake.

Only to find the lake water roiling, seemingly like a giant beast was battling below the surface.

That human had just gone into the lake; she didn't know what he was going to do there.

Even though her hands and legs were restored, Suniya felt utterly exhausted, not wanting to move a single finger.

She quietly watched as the lake transformed from turbulent to silent, witnessing the lake surface bulge as the tall human emerged with a giant fish slung over his shoulder.

Yan Luo tossed the giant fish onto the ground, pointed at Suniya, then pointed at the slender sword beside her, and finally pointed at the fish on the ground.

Regardless of whether Suniya could understand, Yan Luo once again turned and entered the lake, engaging in battle with the animals within.

Despite the booster gemstone's effect not dissipating completely, Yan Luo was determined to strengthen himself as much as possible.

Sitting on the bank, Suniya was a bit dazed, glancing at the gleaming sword nearby, then at the nearby giant fish.

What did he mean? Was he asking her to process the fish?

Although consuming this Grade Three Scale-fish could slightly enhance her strength, weren't they enemies? Yet he was letting the enemy handle the food preparation?

Suniya grew angry for a moment, then picked up the slender sword, releasing her anger on the Scale-fish.

"Darned human, you'll be doomed once my sister finds me!"

While scraping the fish scales with the slender sword, Suniya gritted her teeth and muttered to herself, treating this fish as Yan Luo's likeness, every cut feeling as if she were slicing the human.

Before long, Yan Luo returned to the shore, and Suniya immediately ceased her muttering.

This time, Yan Luo was dragging a python in his hand.

The python looked terrifying, but it was merely a hazard level, much weaker than that deadly level giant fish, making it easy for Yan Luo to handle.

After tossing the python aside, just as Yan Luo was about to head back into the lake, his eye caught something, turning to look at a tree in the distance.

He walked past Suniya, under her astonished gaze, picked up the quiver she had thrown onto the ground, and drew an arrow.

Aiming at the tree, Yan Luo suddenly threw the arrow.

Thud!

The arrow shaft was embedded nearly halfway into the trunk, startling the elf hidden behind the tree.

"Well, who would've thought I'd be found out."

A tall, voluptuous, brown-haired elf emerged from behind the tree.

Upon seeing the female elf, Suniya immediately stood up, shouting, "Sister!"

It seemed these two elves knew each other.

Yan Luo's gaze was fixed on the brown-haired elf, yet he didn't let down his guard towards what was behind him.

The brown-haired elf grasped the slender sword handle hanging at her waist, squinting at Yan Luo, while Yan Luo clenched his fists, muscles secretly tensing.

Was a battle about to break out...?
