Chapter 49: Communication

Julia looked at Yan Luo, noticing his short, rounded ears, and her lips pressed slightly together.

"Human?"

Hearing this voice, Yan Luo's eyes shifted slightly.

The brown-haired elf's words sounded somewhat familiar, with a hint of an archaic Chinese accent.

The next second, Julia transformed into a whirlwind, suddenly launching an attack; the slender sword at her waist drew a silver line in the air, slicing towards Yan Luo's cheek.

Yan Luo abruptly ducked, his fists clenched at his waist, and unleashed a powerful punch.

The slender sword suddenly changed direction, shifting from a horizontal to a vertical slash, and Yan Luo's fist surged straight upward, crashing unerringly into Julia's wrist.

Julia suddenly sensed something was wrong and hastily withdrew her sword and retreated.

She had a feeling that although she could hurt this human, she herself would be wounded even more severely.

Julia had already retreated, but Yan Luo pursued relentlessly, his feet pushing off the ground as he charged forward, his towering, muscular frame crashing through the air, hurling a heavy punch.

Facing such a powerful assault, even though Julia had a weapon in hand, she dared not engage Yan Luo directly. She could only keep retreating, dodging Yan Luo's fists, hoping to exhaust him and make him reveal a flaw.

"Sister!"

Suniya saw that Julia and Yan Luo were fighting and was momentarily stunned. She gritted her teeth, brandished her sword, and charged at Yan Luo to help surround him with Julia.

By the time Julia noticed, it was too late. Suniya had run behind Yan Luo and thrust her slender sword from afar.

Yet Yan Luo didn't even turn, grabbing the sword with his reverse hand, exerting force to pull Suniya along with the sword towards him, then released his grip, using his palm like a knife to chop at Suniya's wrist, causing her hand to lose strength and unable to hold on to the shining sword.

The slender sword fell from Suniya's hand, but Yan Luo effortlessly caught it.

Now, he also had a weapon.

Seeing this, Julia was quite frustrated. She quickly retreated two steps, distanced herself from Yan Luo, and then sheathed her slender sword, removed the scabbard, and tossed the weapon aside.

"I surrender!"

Seeing this, Suniya stared in disbelief, "Sister?!"

Julia glared at Suniya. If not for this little one rushing to her death, she might have exchanged a few more blows with this human.

Seeing Julia abandon her sword, Yan Luo also discarded the slender sword, sticking it into the ground beside him.

After two seconds, he remembered something, walked over to pull out the slender sword, and turned to the edge of the lake.

After washing the sword in the lake, Yan Luo started to scale and fillet the giant fish himself.

Yan Luo ignored them like this, leaving Suniya and Julia dumbfounded.

Julia blinked, turned her head to look at her sister, and asked in a low voice, "What's with that human?"

Suniya shook her head dazedly, "I, I don't know. When I met him yesterday, I thought I had encountered some strange demon, so I shot an arrow at him. I didn't expect he was so powerful and captured me..."

As she spoke, Suniya lowered her head in shame.

As a member of the Lingge Corps, being captured by a human was incredibly humiliating.

Losing a fight wasn't such a big deal because no elf was invincible, but being captured was too shameful.

Julia narrowed her eyes, pondered for a moment, and asked again, "Can he understand what we're saying?"

Suniya shook her head, "It seems like he can't understand."

Hearing this, Julia stepped towards Yan Luo.

Suniya got anxious, hurriedly grabbed her sister's arm, and said urgently, "Sister, what are you doing? He seems to be ignoring me, let's go!"

Julia glanced at her sister, chuckled, "Do you know why he's ignoring you? Because he knows, with a burden like you, there's no way for me to escape him. Now he has a weapon, and given the accuracy of his arrow throw earlier, if he throws the weapon when we leave, what do you think will happen?"

Upon hearing this, Suniya blushed and bowed her head, gritting her teeth.

It was all her fault. If it weren't for her, her sister could have already escaped.

Julia approached Yan Luo, looked down at him handling the scales of the hard-scaled fish, and suddenly squatted down, pointing out a weak spot under the scales to Yan Luo.

Yan Luo glanced at it and realized that by handling the scales through the weak spot, the fish scales could indeed be removed more quickly.

"Thank you." Yan Luo nodded to Julia.

Hearing this, Julia turned to Suniya and smiled, "Those two syllables should mean thank you."

Then, Julia pointed at Suniya and said to Yan Luo in a stiff tone, "Thank you."

Hearing this, Yan Luo stopped his actions and looked at Julia in surprise.

After thinking for a moment, Yan Luo pointed at the giant fish and said, "Fish."

Julia's eyes lit up, and she also said the name of the hard-scaled fish in her own language.

Yan Luo suddenly dropped the slender sword and dived into the water, quickly retrieving two different species of fish from the lake.

He used the same pronunciation to point at the two fish and said the word "fish," and Julia's mouth slightly opened, then used another syllable to state the word for 'fish' in the elf language.

After this, Yan Luo and Julia abandoned the handling of the hard-scaled fish and wandered around, pointing out the names of common objects in their own languages as they walked.

Suniya was completely baffled, only knowing that the two were communicating but not understanding what they intended to do.

After half a day, Suniya's stomach began to grumble, but the two still hadn't stopped their communication.

In the end, she had to pick up the slender sword and handle the hard-scaled fish herself.

While scaling and filleting the hard-scaled fish, Suniya couldn't stop muttering to herself, feeling a strong sense of resentment towards the human and her sister.

By late afternoon, Yan Luo and Julia finally stopped their exchange.

It wasn't because they could no longer communicate, but because they were hungry and needed to eat to have the strength to continue communicating.

Through Julia, Yan Luo learned some of the elf language and could at least engage in brief communication with Julia.

Sitting by the fire at the lakeside, Yan Luo demonstrated his magic power measurer to Julia, and as the fish was digested, the numbers on the instrument continued to rise.

Yan Luo didn't recall where he had seen it, but he had read that mathematics was supposedly the only universal communication method between two unknown civilizations. From the current situation, this might not necessarily be true, but math was indeed easier to communicate than language.

Julia still couldn't fully understand what Yan Luo was saying, often half-guessing, and sometimes she misunderstood the original meaning of his words.

However, after seeing the numbers on the magic power measurer, she quickly understood what it was measuring and what those numbers signified.

Julia requested that Yan Luo let her borrow the magic power measurer for a bit, and after testing it, she confirmed her body's magic power level.

3078 Qì!

The magic power level of a lethal-grade demon was approximately 1001 to 5000 Qì. Considering only the magic power, Julia was considered mid-tier among lethal-grade demons.

But in terms of actual combat ability, Julia could suppress most lethal-grade demons.

Human development was much better than she had imagined!

Julia returned the magic power measurer to Yan Luo, realizing through the instrument and from the amount of salt Yan Luo used earlier that these humans, who had disappeared for over eight thousand years, might be more developed than the elves.

Words could be deceitful, but facts would not.

While the elves also had instruments for measuring magic power, they weren't as convenient and accurate as the one Yan Luo wore.

"We are leaving now."

Julia stood up, walked over, and pulled the bewildered Suniya up. She asked Yan Luo, "Do you want to join us?"

Although Yan Luo had the idea of cooperating with the elves, he was alone and joining Julia would only be akin to seeking a strategy with a tiger.

He shook his head and also rose to leave, but not in the same direction as Julia and Suniya.

Julia bid farewell to Yan Luo, and Yan Luo responded with a "Goodbye."

Yan Luo returned the slender sword to Suniya, then turned and left.

Watching Yan Luo's departing figure, Suniya looked at her sister and asked, "Are we leaving now?"

Julia nodded, "That human is quite powerful, very close to the master tier."

Suniya was taken aback.

Master tier meant a strong individual capable of killing a Level 4 demon!

Could that human be so powerful?
