"Do you trust me?"
Hearing these words from the Paragon Ancestor made Corey to recall a deep and long thought he once had about the Paragon Ancestor's question.
Does he trust the Paragon Ancestor?
This once a question he pondered deeply on, and the answer he arrived at was... Yes.
Yes. He trusted the Paragon Ancestor.
And when he arrived at this answer, his next question was... Why did he trust the Paragon Ancestor?
When Corey asked himself this question, the first answer that came to his mind was that his trust in the Paragon Ancestor was because he was a human who consumed the blood essence of the Paragon Ancestor.
Unlike the second, third, and subsequent generations of Paragons whose bloodline purity was not close to that of the first generation Paragons, Corey's bloodline purity was extremely close to them.
His connection with the Paragon Ancestor was extremely tight, and he had this natural feeling of trust toward the Paragon Ancestor that by all means should not be normal.
If this was why he trusted the Paragon Ancestor, then it was dangerous because he did not have his own free will and he was being manipulated.
And if it was also why he trusted the Paragon Ancestor, it was also not his fault.
When he had both the Paragon Ancestor's blood and the Supreme Ancestor's blood, he was advised by another Paragon not to take the All-Father's blood.
When Corey thought about it, it was not wise of him to trust the words of the Wandering Paragon since the old man was also a Paragon.
Who said he was not lying or exaggerating about the Supremes and the All-Father.
Corey knew he had thought about all of these back then, and one of the reasons he decided to believe the old man back then was because the Universal System had praised the All-Father.
And again, Corey wanted power. He needed power to be able to save his sister, survive, and thrive.
And he had never regretted his decision in absorbing the Paragon Ancestor's blood.
Corey had wondered for a long time if he was being influenced by the blood essence of the Paragon Ancestor or even by Nina.
But who was Corey?
Corey was a man with the soul origins of the dead gods of his universe.
He was a man who had a nigh-perfect control over his body, soul, and spirit.
He was a man who could inspect his body in a way that not even immortals and gods could.
Corey used every single Star of Consciousness in him to scour every inch of his body and to also perform a lot of experiments on his mind.
He knew that it might be futile in the face of the might and greatness of the Paragon Ancestor, but he still did everything possible to see if his thoughts were being manipulated and to also know if he truly trusted the Paragon Ancestor.
After doing all of these, Corey knew that he was not being manipulated and that he trusted the Paragon Ancestor.
It was not a total, complete, and blind trust, but he trusted the Paragon Ancestor because the Paragon Ancestor had done nothing to say he couldn't trust him.
He had never hurt him, and he has only being helpful to him.
Maybe the Supreme Ancestor was not so bad and might have treated him well or even better, but for some reason, whether it was because he had an inherent dislike for the Supremes or maybe it was because of something else, he had a feeling that his life would have been much worse if he was a Supreme.
Another reason why he trusted the Paragon Ancestor is also because of what he just saw.
Could a being who is at the peak of power but plays video games and arcade games truly stoop so low to play mind games with a mortal like him?
Corey was certain that with the intricate connection he had with the Paragon Ancestor, the Ancestor of Paragons could choose to make him his puppet and he won't be able to resist.
Maybe there was a bigger picture as to why he had his freewill?
Maybe he was already being controlled like a puppet but he didn't know?
Maybe he was merely a chess piece on the board game of beings like the Paragon Ancestor and the Supreme Ancestor?
Maybe....
Corey could come up with a million maybes, but that would be foolish of him since the Paragon Ancestor had given him no reason for him to distrust the ancient being.
So what was his answer to the Paragon Ancestor's question?
"Yes. I trust you." He said with a calm tone and expression, and the Paragon Ancestor smiled.
"That's good... I won't tell you what would happen in the process of you becoming a race, but I can tell you a few things."
The Paragon Ancestor paused, and his expression became slightly solemn.
"First of all, many beings would want to stop you. They would descend unto your world and attempt to stop you the moment you reach a point in you becoming a new race."
"Normally, the bastard old man would have prevented this from happening and would utterly destroy anyone of them that descends on your world since it's in his domain... But he won't do that because you chose the part of the Paragons and not the Supremes."
"Stopping them would not benefit him in any way, and it would be even detrimental to him, so he won't stop them from coming to your world to kill you."
Corey's expression became incomparably solemn when he heard this, and he couldn't help but feel a chill in his soul because of the severity of the Paragon Ancestor's words.
He had known for some time that what he planned on doing would come with severe consequences and events he could not comprehend, he did not expect it to be this serious.
Although he did not know who these beings the Paragon Ancestor was talking about, he knew that for the Paragon Ancestor to have a solemn expression, they were beings that were truly unfathomable to him.
Beings that could kill him with a mere exhale or a thought.
A part of him expected this.
No.
Not that he expected this. A part of his mind chose to make the worst case scenario something he could not comprehend.
Something utterly incomprehensible, so that he would not be shocked and overwhelmed when it happened.
However, this realization was one that made him to have a rethink about what he planned on doing.
Should he continue on the path of madness he envisioned?
Or should he take a more safer path?
"Don't worry. I'm here to protect you. You just have to trust me."
