"Book, if you want to die, I can make that happen for you!" Fat Bear stepped forward and said coldly, "If you're a man, step out and let your grandpa beat you to death!"
Book from the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps chuckled, "What's the matter, losing your temper? Want to fight me? Fine, but before the duel, shall we make a wager?"
"A wager?"
"That's right!" Book's sly eyes scanned Bai Feifei up and down, "If I win, this little beauty has to accompany me for one night. How about it?"
Fat Bear roared angrily, "You..."
"What 'you'? Are you afraid of losing?" Book chuckled mockingly, "If you're scared, I can overlook your earlier rudeness!"
Fat Bear's eyes almost spat fire. This Book was utterly detestable, daring to set his sights on Bai Feifei.
Although Bai Feifei had only been with the Grey Bear Mercenary Group for barely over a month, during this time, she had conquered the hearts of the veteran mercenaries with her strength. They had genuine respect for Bai Feifei.
So when Book voiced such vulgar terms, Fat Bear wished he could tear him apart.
"There's no way I can agree to such terms. How about we each bet an arm instead?" Fat Bear growled.
Book waved dismissively, "What would I want your arm for? All rough and dark—nowhere near as delightful as a delicate little beauty. If you're not betting, let's forget about this!"
"Fine, we accept!" At that moment, Bai Feifei stepped forward and said, "We'll go with your wager. If we lose, I'll accompany you for a night."
Book narrowed his eyes at Bai Feifei, "Little beauty, do you mean it?"
Bai Feifei sneered, "Though I am a woman, I understand the principle of a gentleman's pledge being worth gold!"
"Good!" Book clapped his hands and smiled, "Little beauty, I'm liking you more and more. Rest assured, tonight I'll take good care of you and let you experience the real joys of being a woman!"
"Hahaha!" As soon as Book finished speaking, a wave of vulgar laughter erupted from the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps.
"Then let's begin!" Book took a step forward, smiling.
Bai Feifei raised her hand, "Hold it!"
"What's wrong, little beauty? Having second thoughts?" Book teased.
Bai Feifei sneered, "Second thoughts? Hardly! I only have a minor condition—I'll be your opponent."
"You?" Book sized Bai Feifei up, his face breaking into an amused expression, "You're joking, right? Do you even know who I am?"
Bai Feifei replied coolly, "It doesn't matter. No matter who you are, you're no match for me."
"Such arrogance, little girl!" Book licked his lips, his eyes gleaming with even stronger admiration and possessiveness. In the Underworld, it wasn't often you encountered a feisty little wildcat like this.
Fat Bear approached Bai Feifei and warned, "Book is one of the top fighters in the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps. They call him Lone Wolf. He's ruthless—anyone who duels him ends either dead or gravely injured. Be careful."
Bai Feifei nodded.
"Alright, since the little beauty herself suggested it, I'll play along!" Book said with amusement.
Bai Feifei said grimly, "Fine. But there's still one more thing."
"Geez, how many questions do you have?" Book said impatiently, "Are you trying to stall for time?"
Bai Feifei scoffed, "Stalling? Hardly. I'm just asking—if you lose, what are you prepared to pay?"
"If I lose?" Book laughed derisively, as though he'd heard the funniest joke in the world, "Me, lose? Are you kidding me?"
"A proper wager requires both sides to stake something of equal value," Bai Feifei said. "If you lose, you must kneel and shout three times, 'The Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps is no match for the Grey Bear Mercenary Group.' Deal?"
Book's brow furrowed, and a murderous glint flickered in his eyes. "Ha, interesting. Looks like you're full of confidence."
Bai Feifei narrowed her eyes, "Are you betting or not? If you're too scared, then get lost and stop showing up in front of me!"
"Fine, I'll bet!" Book sneered, "Little beauty, today I'll teach you a lesson about humility!"
The conflict between the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps and the Grey Bear Mercenary Group had drawn a crowd of onlookers from other mercenary groups. Such arranged duels were common among mercenaries. Upon seeing the Grey Bear Mercenaries send out a seemingly delicate woman, the audience broke into cheers.
Fat Bear and his companions, however, were not particularly worried. Among the four of them, Bai Feifei was the strongest. If Bai Feifei couldn't beat Book, none of them could.
"What a spectacle!" In a high-rise office overlooking the base's square, two men stood by the window, observing the scene with smiles.
"Sir, shall we stop them?" one of the men asked respectfully.
"Stop them? Why?" The one-armed man who had spoken earlier said nonchalantly, "What we need are mercenaries with raw instinct. Besides, it gives me a chance to gauge their strength and see if they're fit for the mission ahead."
Under the jeers and cheers of the crowd, Bai Feifei and Book stepped into the center of the square, facing off.
"Little beauty, I'll give you one last chance!" Book said, "Once I enter battle mode, I won't be showing any mercy."
Bai Feifei flexed her wrist casually and said, "Go ahead. I want to see what kind of trash the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps is made of."
"Heh, since that's the case, I won't hold back!" As soon as Book finished speaking, his body transformed into a Phantom, darting toward Bai Feifei.
Bai Feifei's heart skipped a beat; Book's speed was beyond her expectations. Suddenly, the Seven-step Silver Light Snake emitted a warning. Bai Feifei instinctively stepped back.
With a ripping sound, Bai Feifei's long sleeve was torn apart, three bloodied gashes appearing on her arm.
"Such speed! Why do I feel like Book is even faster than before?"
"No doubt about it. He's worthy of being the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps' second-ranked fighter. His strength has definitely reached Peak A-level!"
"And he's barely in his thirties. There's room for growth. Who knows—he might break into the Demi-God Domain someday!"
...
"Not bad reflexes!" Book licked the blood from his nails and chuckled, "But next time, you won't be so lucky!"
Bai Feifei's expression darkened. In martial arts, speed is the ultimate weapon. To defeat Book, she first had to overcome his astonishing speed.
"Haah..." Bai Feifei exhaled deeply, a glimmer of Serpent Eyes flashing in her gaze. "Come on then!"
