Extra Survival Guide to Overpowering Hero and Villain

Chapter 225: Fight III

Fenric quickly aimed again. There was no time to think.

"I have to finish this before more monsters show up!"

He shot another arrow. It hit the already-damaged right eye, and the Kraken screamed again.

Now both eyes were barely working. The huge monster swung its tentacles blindly, hitting the water and sand instead of them.

Spunky jumped and bit another tentacle. The Kraken tried to pull away, but Spunky didn't let go.

The girl shouted, "It's losing control! Keep attacking!"

Fenric fired again. And again.

More notifications popped up. More EXP. But he didn't stop to read anything.

Timer: 2:32 remaining.

Then, finally… the Kraken turned around and started retreating into the ocean, still roaring in pain.

The girl's expression turned hopeful. "It's running away! We're winning!"

Fenric's legs felt weak. "Good… because I'm running out of courage."

Spunky barked loudly, chasing the Kraken back into deeper water. The giant monster thrashed a bit more… and then disappeared under the waves.

Silence.

Fenric didn't trust it. He tapped the girl's shoulder.

"Is it… gone? Like… really gone?"

She nodded slowly. "Yes. It fled. We… actually survived."

Fenric dropped to his knees, exhausted.

"Thank every god in every world…"

Spunky walked back to them, tail wagging like a happy puppy — just a puppy the size of a building.

Fenric stared up at him nervously.

"He's… friendly, right?"

Spunky lowered his giant head and licked Fenric once.

Fenric was now covered in dog drool — a full-body slime bath.

"…Okay. Good dog," he said weakly.

The girl laughed a little. "You did well, bow-user."

Fenric blinked. "My name… is Fenric. Or at least my new name is."

She smiled kindly. "I'm Liana. And I'm glad you're on our side."

A new system message appeared:

Liana looked around at the broken houses and smashed boats, then turned back to Fenric.

"The Chief is still away, so for now, let's go and help the other villagers fix the damage," she said gently. "Or if you need rest, that's okay too."

Fenric shook his head. "Yeah… I'll just help instead of sitting and staring into space again."

He stood up, still sore but smiling a little. Spunky wagged his giant tail, sending a mini-gust of wind across the beach.

Liana gave Fenric a small hammer and pointed toward a broken storage hut.

"You can start with that one. It's safe work."

Fenric nodded. "Safe sounds perfect."

He walked over, and the other villagers stared at him — some surprised, some grateful. A little kid ran up first.

"Are you the hero who scared the sea monster away?"

Fenric froze.

Hero? Him?

"Uh… Spunky did most of the work," he said quickly, pointing at the giant dog.

Spunky barked proudly, as if agreeing.

The villagers laughed a bit, easing the tension.

Fenric began helping them put wooden planks back into place. His hands still shook, but each hammer swing felt like he was proving something — maybe to the world, maybe to himself.

Liana helped nearby, glancing over once in a while.

"You did great today," she said.

Fenric tried not to blush. "I… just don't want anyone to die because I was too scared."

Liana gave him a soft smile. "That's what makes you brave."

Fenric swallowed and nodded. He kept working.

The sun slowly began to set over the water, painting the sky orange.

Night finally arrived. The villagers set up small fires and handed out simple food — mostly cooked fish and some bread. Everyone looked tired, but alive.

Fenric sat near one of the fires with Liana and Spunky, who was now curled up like a giant warm wall behind them.

He watched the villagers eat and talk happily, smiling despite everything that happened. Kids played with pieces of driftwood, pretending to fight monsters.

Fenric blinked in surprise.

"No wonder that Kraken attacked you guys…" he muttered.

Liana tilted her head. "What do you mean?"

Fenric pointed at the food. "You're literally eating fish… right next to the ocean. Like waving a 'come eat us' sign. The Kraken probably got jealous."

Several villagers overheard and laughed, shaking their heads.

One fisherman grinned. "If the giant sea beast wants dinner, it should pay like everyone else!"

Fenric smirked a little. "Yeah, maybe it should bring silver next time."

More laughter spread through the group. The fear from earlier slowly faded, replaced by relief.

Fenric relaxed back against Spunky's fur. The giant dog gave a small "woof" and rested his head near Fenric protectively.

Liana handed Fenric a cup of warm drink.

"To surviving today," she said.

Fenric nodded and tapped his cup against hers lightly.

"To not dying," he replied with a tired grin.

They drank.

They drank quietly for a while — warm, sweet, and calming. The drink helped wash away the fear and stress stuck in Fenric's chest all day.

But after a few more cups… Fenric's eyes drooped.

He hadn't realized how exhausted he truly was.

His head tilted forward.

Then sideways.

Then—

Thunk.

Fenric fell over onto Spunky's fur like a dropped potato sack.

Liana blinked. "…He fell asleep?"

Spunky sniffed him and gave a small, protective rumble — making sure no one bothered his new human friend.

The villagers smiled and let Fenric rest. He had earned it.

Next Morning

Fenric woke up with sunlight in his face… and the worst headache he'd had in years.

He groaned loudly and rubbed his head.

"Ughhh… I hope this world have sober drink… because I definetely need one…"

He sat up and realized he was still leaning against Spunky, who was snoring softly like distant thunder.

Liana was already awake, preparing food. She noticed him and walked over, smirking slightly.

"Good morning, hero," she said.
