The Quantum Path to Immortality

Chapter 143: Adept Breakthrough

As Elias walked out of the betting section where he'd collected his winnings, he reviewed the final numbers with satisfaction. The betting agent had been practically trembling while processing the payout.

"Final total," the agent had said, voice shaking, "including all compound betting returns from nine consecutive victories and the championship prize: 49,038,800 Infinity Essence."

Elias had started the day with 12,600 Essence. Through nine matches of overwhelming victory and compound betting, he'd multiplied his wealth nearly four thousand times.

The agent had added quietly, "Sir... this is the largest single-day payout in arena history. By a significant margin."

Now, walking through the city streets back to his mansion, Elias felt the weight of the specialized storage ring containing his fortune. Nearly 50 million Essence. Enough to fund his cultivation for decades. Enough to breakthrough to Master level and beyond.

Several passing Adepts gave him respectful nods. Word had spread fast—the Initiate who'd destroyed Crimson Spear Theron and 500 multiverses was now the most talked-about fighter in the realm.

Elias ignored the attention and headed home. He

Back in his mansion's cultivation chamber, Elias sat cross-legged and analyzed his situation.

Current status:

Cultivation base: Peak Initiate Infinity Law: 20% (Peak Initiate) Resources: 49,038,800 Infinity Essence Goal: Breakthrough to Adept level

The jump from Initiate to Adept wasn't just about accumulating power. It required a fundamental shift in understanding. The first stage of Infinity Law—Endless Path—was about potential infinity, things that could continue forever.

The second stage—Multiplicity—was about actual infinity. Not "approaching infinite" but genuinely infinite instances existing simultaneously.

He'd need to comprehend how one could become many, how a single technique could manifest in infinite variations at once, how to exist in countless states without losing coherence.

His Quantum Law gave him advantages here. He already understood superposition, existing in multiple states simultaneously. Translating that to Infinity Law should be straightforward.

Probably.

He reached through his quantum entanglement to check on his other self. In the multiverse, his duplicate was explaining to Aria why she couldn't turn her breakfast into infinite breakfasts.

"But Father, if you can do infinity, why can't I make infinite pancakes?" seven-year-old Aria argued.

"Because," his other self replied patiently, "infinity isn't about making more of something. It's about understanding that the concept of 'more' becomes meaningless when you reach true infinity."

"That's a terrible explanation. I still want infinite pancakes."

Kaelen laughed in the background. "Just let her have two servings, dear."

Through the link, Elias smiled. His family was doing well. Kaelen had reached early Multiversal level, and Aria was advancing frighteningly fast toward the same.

Good. They'd be ready when he eventually brought them to the Infinity Realm.

But first, his own breakthrough.

Elias arranged 10,000 units of Infinity Essence around his cultivation platform in a geometric pattern. He'd use 10 million Essence for this breakthrough—a massive amount, but he could afford to be generous.

He activated the mansion's arrays. Energy concentration increased. Time dilation engaged—five hours internal for every external hour.

Then he activated his Infinite Perpetual Ascension Technique and began absorbing Essence.

The energy flooded through him, far more intense than anything he'd used before. Each crystal contained compressed understanding of Infinity Law, and he was consuming thousands simultaneously.

His consciousness expanded. He felt his understanding of Endless Path reach its absolute limit, then push beyond.

And there, waiting on the other side, was Multiplicity.

The concept hit him like a physical force: one becoming infinite, not through division or replication, but through simultaneous existence across unlimited instances.

A single attack that was infinite attacks. A single self that was infinite selves. Not copies—actual existence, all real, all him, all happening at once.

His Quantum Divine Processor seized the concept and began integrating it into his existing framework. The calculations were complex—how to maintain consciousness across infinite instances without fragmenting, how to control unlimited versions of yourself without losing coordination.

Hours passed in the time-dilated chamber. Outside, minutes ticked by. Inside, Elias wrestled with infinity itself.

Then, finally, it clicked.

His Infinity Law comprehension jumped from 20% to 21%. Then 22%. Then 25%.

The breakthrough accelerated. His understanding of Multiplicity deepened with each percentage gained. 27%. 30%. 33%.

At 35%, something changed. His cultivation base, which had been at peak Initiate, suddenly surged. Energy flooded through his meridians, restructuring them, expanding them, making them capable of handling genuinely infinite power flows.

His soul refined itself further. His body adapted to the new level of existence. His Perpetual Horizon Core evolved, its structure becoming more complex.

The breakthrough continued. 38%. 40%. 42%.

At 45%, he felt the realm's suppression lessen dramatically. What had been a constant pressure became barely noticeable. His Quantum Law had already negated most of it, but now his Infinity Law comprehension was high enough that even without quantum tricks, he could function normally.

Finally, after what felt like days but was actually six hours, the breakthrough stabilized.

His Infinity Law comprehension settled at 47%—solidly in the Adept range.

Elias opened his eyes. He felt different. Stronger, yes, but also... more. Like he was simultaneously one person and infinite variations of that person, all existing in harmony.

He stood and tested his new power.

Elias raised his hand and threw a simple punch at the air.

The punch multiplied. What had been one strike became ten, then a hundred, then a thousand—all occupying the same space, all equally real, all hitting simultaneously.

The air itself screamed from the impact. The cultivation chamber's protective arrays flared, barely containing the force.

He stopped before breaking something expensive.

"Interesting," he murmured. "Every attack I make now has infinite variations built in. The opponent would have to defend against all of them simultaneously."

He tried his Quantum Strike Annihilation technique. The result was terrifying—not just an attack that existed in multiple quantum states, but an attack that existed in infinite quantum states, each one manifesting in infinite variations.

It was an attack that was literally impossible to fully defend against. Even if you blocked one version, infinite others would still land.

"I should probably avoid using that casually," he said to the empty chamber. "Seems excessive."

He tested movement next, activating Probability Slipstream. His body blurred, existing along infinite possible paths simultaneously. He moved from one side of the chamber to the other, and his motion was so fundamentally "everywhere at once" that observers wouldn't be able to track which version of him was real.

Because they were all real.

"Definitely Adept level now," he confirmed.

A notification array in the corner of the chamber lit up—someone was at his mansion's entrance.

Elias descended to the main floor and opened the door. Vel'kora stood there, looking simultaneously impressed and exasperated.

"You broke through to Adept," Vel'kora said flatly. "Of course you did. It's been what, three months since you arrived?"

"Three and a half," Elias corrected.

"Oh, well, Mr. three and a half months. That makes it soooooo much more reasonable." Vel'kora walked past him into the mansion without invitation. "Do you know how long it took me to reach Adept? Seven thousand years. Seven. Fucking. Thousand. Years."

"You mentioned you were at 18% Infinity Law. That's Initiate level."

"Yes, thank you for reminding me that you've surpassed me in three months what took me seventeen thousand years to achieve." Vel'kora found a chair and sat down heavily. "I'm not bitter. Not at all."

"You sound bitter."

"I'm being sarcastic. That's different." Vel'kora sighed. "Anyway, I'm not here to complain about your absurd advancement speed. I'm here because you've become famous, and famous people have problems."

"What problems?"

"Sect recruitment, mostly. Every major sect in the city wants you. The Eternal Spiral Sect sent a recruiters this morning to the guild. The Boundless Path Alliance sent three. The Probability Collective sent a Master-level cultivator to 'invite' you to join." Vel'kora made air quotes. "That last one wasn't really an invitation."

"I'm not interested in joining sects."

"I know that. You know that. But the sects don't know that yet, and they're not going to take 'no' for an answer easily. Especially the Probability Collective—they're aggressive about recruiting anyone with unique abilities."

"Then I'll decline aggressively."

Vel'kora laughed. "I'd like to see that. Actually, no, I'd pay to see that. Speaking of paying..." They pulled out a small pouch. "I bet on you. Not everything, because I'm not insane, but a decent amount. Your nine-match winning streak made me enough Essence to live comfortably for a decade. So, thank you."

"You're welcome."

"You're not going to ask how much I won?"

"It's not relevant to my interests."

"You're so weird. But in a good way, I think." Vel'kora stood. "Anyway, I just wanted to warn you about the sect recruiters. They'll be persistent. Some might even challenge you to 'friendly' matches to test your strength. Just... be careful, okay?"

"I'm always careful."

"You destroyed 500 multiverses yesterday."

"Carefully."

Vel'kora left, shaking their head and muttering about "impossible people."
