Jimmy returned to the office and saw Mark and Julia there. He directly assigned tasks: "Mark, Julia, everyone needs to work overtime today, verify all clues and evidence thoroughly, and prepare a diagram of the crime scene. Tomorrow afternoon, there will be a news conference where information about these three large-scale shootings will be fully disclosed."
Julia: "Is it this urgent? There are still many things we haven't verified yet."
Jimmy shook his head: "Several supervisors just had a meeting and decided that this. The impact of the three consecutive shootings is too significant, or else they wouldn't have gathered in the conference room to discuss this case simultaneously."
Mark: "Yang, we need extra support, relying on us definitely won't be enough."
Jimmy: "I understand, just wanted to inform you first. Let's sort out all the investigation contents now, and I'll go apply for technical support. We must finalize everything today, and tomorrow morning we'll verify the data. The conference will begin in the afternoon."
Mark glanced at Julia, and Julia shrugged, turned to look at the computer screen, and continued her investigation. Mark nodded and resumed his previous inquiry.
Seeing their arrangements, Jimmy turned and left the office, heading to Ruiz's side, but Ruiz was likely still with Dave. Jimmy had to wait a while before seeing him return. Jimmy called out directly: "Ruiz, we need help."
Ruiz blinked in confusion; having just left the meeting room, what's happening now? "What do you need?"
Jimmy: "Technical department, as many people as possible. We need to consolidate all information today; the workload is too large. Also, contact the lab and the forensic doctor's office to prioritize our case; we must receive the report today."
Ruiz frowned: "I don't have that many people to give you."
Jimmy: "Whatever you can offer is good enough; I need enough people now to gather information and create a diagram of the crime scene needed for tomorrow's conference."
Ruiz nodded, understanding that deciding to hold the conference tomorrow seemed overly rushed. Jimmy definitely couldn't sort the data alone. "Alright, I'll make the call to the technical department, you can go find them."
Jimmy smiled and nodded: "Thanks, and remember to remind them, they'll likely have to work overtime today."
Ruiz: "Alright, head back."
Jimmy returned to the office and compiled with Mark and Julia all the necessary materials, including the shooters' information, and the victims' and survivors' data, which needed redaction before presenting at the conference. Of course, it's selective disclosure; the two deceased children are too tragic to reveal.
After organizing everything, the three headed directly to the technical department, where it was easier to investigate and avoided repeated authorization. Jimmy also needed them to reconstruct diagrams of the shooting scenes, and three shooting scenes required substantial work.
Having arranged all the tasks, Jimmy finally found time to sit down and focus on drafting the speech for tomorrow's conference. Fortunately, he had spent several months in the public affairs office, so even if his drafts were discarded, he was familiar with the conference procedures and talking points.
During overtime in the evening, Jimmy ordered takeout for Mark and the others, taking a portion of tomato sauce pasta back to his desk, managing with just that since he wasn't very hungry anyway.
However, upon seeing the pasta, Julia felt uneasy: "Mark, this one's for you. I'm going to have instant noodles."
Mark puzzled, "Hmm? What's wrong?"
Julia looked at a pizza nearby and shook her head: "Uh, I just don't feel like seeing anything red today; I'll settle for instant noodles." She said and went to the pantry, equipped with a refrigerator and other food—typically neglected compared to ordering a decent meal.
Jimmy saw Julia head out and immediately called after her: "Julia, bring me a coffee."
Though his spirits were good, having a mediocre coffee wasn't a bad idea.
Jimmy: "Mark, has the report from the forensic doctor's office arrived?"
Mark: "Three have arrived; I've been in contact with them. They'll send all reports before midnight tonight."
Jimmy: "Excellent, how about the identity of Shooter No.2?"
Mark: "Confirmed. Also a retired military personnel, likely recruited through the same channel as the others. Yang, I worry this matter isn't over... Will Scott is likely not the mastermind behind this."
Jimmy: "Don't worry, if this matter has follow-ups, the Anti-Terrorism Team will intervene. They have far more resources than we do."
Mark: "Alright."
Busy until midnight, finally much of the data and information was completed, and the technical department submitted the rendered simulations of the three shooting scenes, marking a wrap-up.
It was too late, so Jimmy and the others stayed without returning home, each finding a place to rest. Jimmy managed to go home in the morning for another three hours sleep, then showered and changed clothes before heading back to the office.
In the afternoon, the conference was to be held. Jimmy rechecked the materials prepared by Mark and Julia and then went to the public affairs office to have a makeup artist groom him and communicate with Isabel in advance.
Today's speech was crafted by Jimmy himself. Initially, Isabel planned to review and revise it, but time was indeed too tight; Jimmy had it ready by noon, leaving only a moment for Isabel to skim through it without detailed modifications.
