Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 453: Win-Win

Luke asked, "How do you know this isn't meant to trap beasts?"

"I'm a wilderness adventure expert. I've been hunting with my father in the wild since I was under ten. No one knows hunting better than me." The gray-haired old man gritted his teeth, inhaling sharply from pain,

"Could you lend me a hand first? I'll explain slowly later."

"Alright, what do I need to do?"

"Find some sticks and stones, we'll need them soon."

Luke was worried about encountering an animal trap ahead, so he didn't walk forward but retraced his steps, finding two relatively thick branches and two rhombus-shaped stones.

Luke used a stick to probe the ground and made his way to the side of the white-haired old man.

Under the old man's guidance, the two used sticks and stones to pry open the animal trap, and the old man quickly pulled his foot out.

"Thank you for rescuing me." The old man breathed a sigh of relief and lay on the ground, completely relaxed now.

Luke initially wanted to explore the surroundings, but seeing the old man's predicament, he abandoned this plan.

"How's your injury?"

"Luckily, my shoes are tough. Though my foot is injured, the bones are fine, I can hold on." The old man was sweating profusely, his body somewhat debilitated, "My name is Morris Dawan, and once again, thank you for saving me. I don't know your name yet."

"Luke Lee, are you here alone?"

"Yes, I'm used to acting alone." Morris Dawan glanced at his injured foot, "This time was just an accident.

No, to be exact, someone deliberately set this trap. What a son of a bitch.

If I find him, he will certainly pay the price."

Luke pursued, "Why are you so sure it's a trap?"

Morris Dawan said, "This kind of animal trap is rarely used anymore. Even if used, it's in dense vegetation areas like forests, not a barren canyon like this with no cover. A gun would suffice.

Besides, places where animal traps are laid usually have markers to prevent someone from accidentally triggering them, but there's none here, and it's set right in the middle of the canyon.

From my experience, this is meant for targeting people.

In the moon wars, many soldiers were crippled by these things."

Luke thought the old man's words made some sense. The surroundings were barren, and there were no animals. As he said, with such an open view, it's easier to hunt directly with a gun, why use such a sinister trap; whether it can catch beasts is uncertain, it might even be triggered accidentally.

"How did you get here?"

"You should have seen my ride, that black sidecar motorcycle."

"Yes, it's pretty cool."

"Exactly, everyone who sees it says that. I absolutely love it."

"Can you still walk?"

Morris Dawan looked at his injured foot, "I'm not sure."

Luke helped him up from the ground, walked a few steps, and placed him in a shaded spot.

"Your injured foot can't bear weight?"

"Yes." After those few steps, Morris Dawan's forehead was already wet.

Luke said, "If you trust me, give me the keys, I'll drive over to take you away."

He didn't say the next sentence, which was if you don't trust me, then you'll have to crawl back yourself.

Morris Dawan hesitated for a moment, "Of course, I trust you." He took out the car keys from his pocket and handed them over.

Luke took the keys, stood up, "See you soon."

Morris Dawan watched Luke's back, opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end remained silent.

Luke met up with Walker and shook the car keys, "Want to give it a try?"

Walker asked, "Cool, what does he do?"

"He claims to be an outdoor adventure expert. I didn't ask why he came here, anyway, it doesn't seem like a tourist trip."

The sidecar motorcycle can seat three people, two on the motorcycle, and one in the right-side sidecar.

"You know? Actually, the spot I most wanted was here." Walker sat in the sidecar.

Luke drove the motorcycle to get Morris Dawan.

"Vroom vroom..." Luke twisted the throttle, and the sidecar motorcycle roared.

The feeling is entirely different from riding a Harley.

Facing the wind, Luke asked, "How does it feel?"

Walker joked with a smile, "Mom no longer needs to worry about me getting car sick."

"Haha..." The two laughed.

Luke rode the sidecar motorcycle back to Morris Dawan's injury site.

Morris Dawan laughed, "I'm here, glad to see you again."

Luke laughed, "Your big toy is quite flashy, we almost left you here."

"I know it's very appealing." Morris Dawan glanced at Walker, "Is this your partner?"

"You can call me Walker, I brought a medical kit. I think we should treat you before leaving."

"Thank you, you're a good person."

Walker walked over to Morris Dawan, put the medical kit on the ground, "Just a normal person would do this."

Morris Dawan showed a wry smile, "Looks like I've met quite a few abnormal people in the first half of my life."

Morris Dawan took off his shoe.

Walker used scissors to cut open his sock, "Bear with it, I'm going to clean your wound, it might hurt."

"Go ahead, it's nothing for a guy who's grown up outdoors."
