Also, that canyon administrator Carlos replied that he could deliver gasoline within an hour.
Yesterday, Luke and the others left the rest area and drove here, which took more than three hours. Even if they stopped occasionally, the drive took at least two hours.
This indicates that his location is not far from here.
Could it be that the gasoline theft was orchestrated by him? Did he steal Amas Martin's gasoline to sell it at a high price?
That doesn't seem right. Amas Martin doesn't have his contact information; the business card was provided by Luke.
If Amas Martin hadn't met Walker and himself, they wouldn't have been able to contact each other.
Or perhaps I'm overthinking it, and these are just coincidences?
After quickly tidying up, Luke and Walker got into their RV as planned last night and drove to the bottom of the canyon.
The road inside the canyon was winding and rugged. After driving for a while, the road narrowed, making it difficult for the RV to pass.
Luke and Walker parked the RV in a safe area and got out to walk to the bottom of the canyon.
They didn't carry much, just water, food, guns, and a first aid kit.
Walker also brought his sniper rifle.
The sniper rifle uses large-caliber bullets, making it more effective against beasts.
Luke's Glock pistol has a fast firing rate and a lot of bullets, suitable for dealing with people.
But it's not ideal for wilderness use; the bullet caliber is too small and not powerful enough to kill a beast with one shot. Wounding a beast would only make it more vicious.
If venturing into the wild again, Luke would consider bringing a revolver or shotgun.
"It's so beautiful here!" Walker exclaimed, taking out his camera to take pictures before handing it to Luke, "What do you think?"
"Not bad," Luke replied.
Walker smiled, "Compared to nature, we humans are so insignificant. Getting out and about makes all those troubles seem trivial.
With a big heart, trouble becomes small."
Luke took out the treasure map to examine it. "According to the map, there should be a balance stone nearby. Once we find that stone, it means we're not far from the treasure location."
Walker looked around with his phone, "Buddy, don't jump to conclusions. Red Rock Canyon houses quite a few balance stones, they're just one of the signs."
Walker took a few steps forward and, noticing Luke hadn't followed, turned back. Luke was squatting on the ground, seemingly observing something. "What have you discovered?"
"I found tire tracks, looks like from a motorcycle," Luke said.
Walker also walked over to examine, frowning, "No, these tire tracks don't look like a motorcycle."
"It should be a sidecar motorcycle, with a sidecar attached on the right," Luke replied.
"Interesting, this kind of motorcycle would indeed be suitable for adventure and treasure hunting," Walker noted.
Luke pointed at the tire tracks, "The marks seem fresh."
Walker smiled, "Seems there are quite a few tourists venturing into this canyon."
Luke stood up and continued walking.
The pair walked for another twenty minutes before reaching the bottom of the canyon, where they were greeted by the towering rock walls on both sides.
With the sun climbing higher, they sought a shady spot to rest and finally found some under a tree. However, there was a rattlesnake underneath.
Not wanting to disturb the rattlesnake, they continued on their way, respecting the order of arrival.
Walker surveyed the surroundings with binoculars, "Hey, I think I spotted that sidecar motorcycle, but I don't see anyone around."
Luke, intrigued by the motorcycle, suggested, "Let's go have a look."
Led by Walker, they found the black sidecar motorcycle, which was locked, and indeed, no one was around.
Luke first surveyed the surroundings, then looked down at the ground, saying, "The person is likely alone."
"How do you know?" Walker asked.
Luke pointed at the ground, "There's only one set of footprints, likely a man's."
Walker approached the black sidecar motorcycle, observing that it seemed a bit aged with several scratches but remained functional.
Standing beside it, he asked, "Isn't it cool?"
"Should I take a picture of you with it?"
"No need, taking pictures should involve the owner's consent first." Walker waved it off, whispering, "I think the owner of this sidecar motorcycle is also here for treasure hunting."
"Let's not worry about him; we should stick to our route," Luke suggested.
They continued onward, with Luke feeling he heard a faint sound, gesturing to Walker.
Walker lifted his binoculars, "There's a man sitting ahead, seems injured."
He handed the binoculars to Luke.
Luke peered into the distance, observing that the man looked to have a foot injury and was carrying a hunting rifle, with no others in sight.
Luke advised, "Find a vantage point nearby that offers concealment; I'm going over to check."
"Be careful," Walker cautioned.
Splitting up, Walker proceeded further, finding a high ground suitable for hiding. Lying on the ground, he held binoculars in his left hand and a sniper rifle on the right side.
Luke approached the injured man.
The voices became clearer, "Fuck! It hurts so badly, which bastard did this?
If I find out who, you're dead."
Luke didn't get too close, making noise intentionally, "Hey, buddy, need some help?"
The injured man jerked his head up, revealed to be a white-haired old Caucasian man, whose first instinct was to raise his hunting rifle.
Luke spread his arms, "No need to be nervous, I'm just a tourist. I saw you were hurt and thought you might need some help?"
Seeing Luke unarmed, the old man sighed in relief, lowering his rifle, "Sorry, I got too edgy.
You better stay where you are, some bastard laid out a trap here, I wouldn't want you to end up like me."
Luke then saw a metal trap clamped to the old man's foot, which he was trying unsuccessfully to pry open.
"How did you get caught in a trap?"
The old man gritted his teeth, "No, this isn't for catching animals; it's meant to catch people. Someone deliberately set this trap!"
