Hero or Villain, Both

Chapter 232: Everything was missing

Once the skeleton crossed the line of where the trap should have been, there was silence that followed.

There wasn't a single thing that was triggered even though the skeleton seemed to be walking on where the traps were supposed to be.

Once he came back to his senses, Faust gave a mental order for the skeleton to come back to where the trap should have been.

After coming back, he even made the skeleton jump up and down on where the trap's trigger should have been.

But no matter how the skeleton tried to trigger it, there was no reaction from where the trap should have been. It was as if the trap simply did not exist, even though we clearly remember the trap being there.

"What is going on?" That was all that we could say when we saw this.

After all, all of us knew that there should have been a trap there.

Seeing this, Faust waved his hand for us to step back before making the skeleton walk in a different direction. Since we were trapped like this, the only thing that we could do was trigger another one of the traps to see what would happen.

But the same thing happened where there wasn't a single trap that was triggered.

It really seemed like we were mistaken about this with how nothing happened after the skeleton stepped over the spot that the trap should have been.

Faust didn't give up with just this as he had the skeleton walk over several other spots where there should have been traps, but there wasn't a single response from this place.

No matter how we looked at it, it really seemed like we had made a mistake with this place.

In the end, all of us looked at Tempest.

"No." He didn't even need to ask to know why all of us were looking at him like this.

But even though he firmly rejected this, none of us gave up on this matter.

After all, if he didn't do this, then there really was no way for us to move any deeper into this dungeon. So we had to keep pressuring him so that he would do this for us.

It took a while, but we were able to convince him to send a clone over in the end.

As a slime, it was only natural that he would be able to clone himself.

This was just one of the features that came with his race.

Though through the shared stats, we were able to do the same thing.

It was just that it felt wrong to do that when there was an actual slime here.

Once the slime version of him bounced over to where the trap should have been, the same thing happened where there was no reaction at all. It seemed that this place was completely devoid of any trap with how it reacted.

After all, this slime was also able to change into a human since it was a clone of Tempest.

But no matter what form it took, it just couldn't activate the trap.

"Does that mean that there's no trap at all?" This was the only conclusion that we could come to when we saw this. There was no better proof of this and it was impossible for us to continue ignoring the facts that were in front of us.

After a while, we slowly made our way into the room and stepped onto the traps ourselves.

It was hard for us to get rid of the knowledge that we had brought to this world, but we had no choice but to give it up when this knowledge didn't give us anything.

Seeing that there was nothing happening after we stepped on these plates showed that there really wasn't a single trap here.

"Are we sure that this is the same place?"

None of us said anything as we looked around as if we were confirming this.

But in the end, it didn't matter how many times we looked around since it was still the same. We could have looked around this place a hundred times and the results wouldn't have changed.

So in the end, we had no choice but to start moving deeper into this place.

"This is where a trap should be."

But there was nothing after we sent a skeleton forward.

"This is where a nest of monsters is."

There was only an empty room.

"This is where a pitfall should be."

There was only a solid floor.

The more that we saw this, the more anxious we couldn't help becoming.

After all, this was a dungeon that seemed to be devoid of everything. Everything that we had brought with us from the game world was missing.

As for why that was important…

"If the traps and monsters were missing, then what about the treasures?"

After all, this place was a dungeon that had quite decent loot. That was the main reason why anyone even came to this dungeon in the first place.

If even the loot was missing, then that meant that there was no point in us exploring this place.

The only thing that was even pushing us forward at this point was the fact that there was this concentrated fire elemental energy that was in the air. This concentrated fire elemental energy actually came the treasure that was at the center of this dungeon, so there was still hope that it was still there if the fire elemental energy filled this place.

But the hope was becoming more and more dim with each trap that was missing.

It really seemed like the signs were pointing to this place being an empty dungeon.

If it was an empty dungeon, that meant that we had come all this way for nothing…

It would have all been a waste of time.

"This is the final room." I said in a heavy voice to which the others revealed grim looks, but they didn't say anything in the end as they waited for me to open the door.

I took a deep breath before pushing open the door.
