Hero or Villain, Both

Chapter 242: Not prepared at all

"This isn't a fair fight at all."

But then again, I already knew that this was the case.

After all, it wasn't as if those humans would actually move just because someone told them that demons were coming.

It wasn't like in the story of the boy who cried wolf where they believed someone crying wolf right away.

Instead, it took them time to see if there were actually demons or not.

Though there were some adventurers that had believed what Stark had said and moved out their families, it wasn't even close to being enough.

Once the demons arrived, the people of the Deter Kingdom panicked.

Those that were supposed to be protecting the people of the Deter Kingdom immediately abandoned their duties. Once they saw that the demons were here, the first thing that they did was lock everything that could be locked and hid themselves away.

There was one layer of city walls that blocked the people of this capital from the demons.

Then there was another layer that was in the middle of the city that separated the poor from the rich, while also keeping the demons away. If the outer city walls were to fall, the inner city walls would still be there to keep the rich people safe.

It really showed what kind of place this Deter Kingdom was.

Though I already knew that since I had seen those rich people that were in charge of this place acted. After all, they were the kinds of people that only cared about their own benefits.

They didn't care about the people that they ruled, they just saw them as disposable.

That meant that at this moment…

"Hero, where are you going?"

The moment that I heard this, I couldn't help narrowing my eyes.

But we couldn't do anything in the end.

After the demons appeared, the first thing that the king of this Deter Kingdom did was to give the order to lock the gates and ensure that no one would be able to enter the castle.

The next thing that the king did was give the order to lock the gates of the inner city.

It wasn't an order to lock the gates of the city, but rather only the inner city where the rich and powerful lived.

It was only after all of this was done that they went to lock the gates of the city.

If it wasn't for the fact that the demons took it slow because their leader slowed them down, then there was no doubt that the demons would have already swarmed into the city.

There was no way that the demons would have given these humans the time to close the gates like this.

The one other thing that the king did was make sure that we were confined to the castle.

Aragon and I already knew about the demons coming before they even arrived, so we had already made our preparations. But that was based on the idea that they weren't completely greedy.

Now that we've found out that they were completely greedy, that plan didn't work well.

After all, the king was making sure that we were safe because he wanted to use us as a tool to ensure his own safety.

The hero had a very special status among the human race, it was one that was just like the saintess of the church who was also here.

With this hero by his side, it would mean that the king would have a very good piece by his side if things went wrong. Whether that was to use against the demons or to us to make a deal with the demons.

The only reason that we hadn't broken out yet was because the guards that were here were innocent.

Otherwise it would be impossible for normal guards like this to be able to keep us here.

But the longer that we remained here, it was clear that the more the people outside of the castle suffered.

The castle was in the central part of the town, which was also the most protected part. Since it was in the most central part of the town and was quite high up, we were able to see what was happening outside.

Though the outer city walls were still holding, the situation didn't seem optimistic with how many demons were out there. It really seemed like the outer city walls would fall at any moment with how things looked.

"We should go and help them."

It was Andrea who suddenly said this.

As a member of the Abel Kingdom's royal family, it was naturally hard for her to see the people suffering like this. She was the exact opposite of the Deter Kingdom's royal family where she actually cared about the people.

The Deter Kingdom was a small kingdom where the nobles abused their powers after all, it was completely different from the Abel Kingdom that was one of the bastions of humanity.

"You're the one that said that we shouldn't offend the Deter Kingdom's royal family in the first place." I suddenly said with a sigh.

Andrea revealed an awkward look when she heard this before saying, "I know that this is what I said before, but I take it back now. Those people clearly do not care about what happens to their own citizens."

There was a more serious look that had a trace of regret in it as she continued, "It makes me ashamed to call myself a royal like them."

"But you aren't a royal like them, are you?" I said to her with a smile on my face.

Slowly that serious look disappeared from her face and a smile crept onto her lips before she gave a simple nod without saying anything.

Since she had come to this decision, there was nothing holding us back anymore.

"Then how do you want to do…"

Before I could even finish what I was going to say, the door suddenly flew off its hinges.

"What is going on?" The guards outside asked in a shocked voice.

"We're leaving and you can't stop us."

So in the end, her choice was to use brute force.
