Hero or Villain, Both

Chapter 265: Is this really it?

"There are a few soul traces coming from here."

"There's no soul traces here at all."

"This place is empty as well."

I couldn't help knitting my non-existent brows when I heard these reports.

These came from the necromancers that I had sent out to scout out this outpost.

Since I had been teaching them necromancy, I had taught them a few interesting spells that were related to the soul. With these spells, it was easy for them to sense the location of souls.

That meant that they were able to find the necromancers that were in this outpost even without entering.

Though the most important thing to find with souls were the powerful undead.

Some undead that were very powerful could even develop their own souls, like elder liches.

Or else I wouldn't have been able to take control of this body and break free of the necromancer that created me. Though a bigger part of it was all because of the shared stats skill that allowed me to retain my will.

That should have been the real reason that I had been able to take over this lich body.

"Do they just not have any guards at all? No, it must mean that they're using undead as guards, right?"

Even though I tried to explain it to myself, it wasn't as if it made sense.

If they were using undead as guards, there still would have been a single soul signature from that place. The undead would only be able to follow simple orders, so there had to be a living person that would be able to control them stationed there to control them just in case anything happened.

So for there not to be a single trace of a soul…

Was it some kind of trap?

After thinking about it, I decided to take a look for myself.

When I saw what was there, I couldn't help feeling even more disappointed.

That was because there wasn't a single trace of the Undead Society there, it seemed that they didn't even bother keeping guard over their own outpost. It was as if they were daring people to challenge them with how empty it was.

With the shared knowledge from the other avatars, I was able to use a few techniques that allowed me to search this place, but…

"There really isn't a single thing?"

The more that I tried to find something, the less that I found.

It really seemed like there wasn't a single thing here…

But how could they just leave themselves unguarded like this?

"What if we just send in the undead first to test it?"

Seeing that I was just standing there in a daze as I tried to find something off about this place, one of the villagers suddenly made this suggestion.

I thought about it, but I decided that this really was the best choice.

While it might mean that we would lose the advantage of this being a surprise, it was still better than being caught off guard by the Undead Society in the end.

However…

"So there really is nothing at all." Even the villagers couldn't help being surprised when they saw the skeleton that they sent forward walking through this passage without a single thing being set off.

"Ha, it seems like I really overestimated them." This was different from how I normally talked around the villagers, but I really couldn't help letting this slip out.

It was to the point where the villagers didn't mind it since they were thinking the same thing.

"Let's just wipe them out." I said before waving my hand and opening up my spatial storage.

Since Draco was just too big to go around on his own, I had to use the spatial storage to bring him around. It was a good thing that he was an undead, so it wasn't as if he needed oxygen or heat to survive.

The spatial storage wasn't suited for living things because it lacked these things.

But Draco the Bone Dragon was made of bones in the first place, so it was fine to store him in there. It wasn't just him alone, but also a bunch of other undead that I had created with the help of the villagers during this time.

Since I had a chance to test them, it would be a waste if I didn't test them against the Undead Society now.

"Just crush them all." That was what I said to Draco and the other undead that I summoned.

Once they received this order, they didn't hesitate to follow.

The undead climbed onto Draco's back and seemed to prepare to jump down when it was needed. Other than the undead that I summoned, there was also undead that the villagers summoned that climbed onto their backs.

Other than calling them here for scouting, naturally I called them here to supply some undead as well.

I didn't want any problems, so I wanted a proper force that could match the necromancers in this place. Just the undead that I had alone wasn't enough to take care of all these necromancers.

Though the undead that I summoned did make up half of the undead that was on Draco's back.

Once all of them were ready, Draco flew up into the sky and raised its head as if it was preparing something.

The funny thing was that even though a Bone Dragon had appeared, there was still no sign of movement from the Undead Society. It really seemed like they didn't post a single guard around this area.

Perhaps this was their arrogance from being an organization that had lasted for many centuries.

They didn't think that they needed to do something like this?

But if that was what they thought, they were completely wrong.

After gathering power for a bit, Draco suddenly lowered its head and sent the blue flames down to the ground.

This was the Bone Dragon's flame breath made with the soul flames that the Bone Dragon possessed.
