From the drawer there was a badge of the Detective agency with the Vice Captain imprinted on the bottom.
She casually tossed the badge and Grey caught it. After giving it a scrutinizing look, he placed the badge on the right side of his chest. He then nodded at the Captain.
"I hope you're not forgetting about the one thousand points you owe me right?" She quickly reminded him. Grey wanted to reject saying he didn't owe her any money but considering she threw the match, he couldn't say anything. Ashamed of himself, he rubbed his nose.
"Anyways, as the Vice Captain of Red five sequence three of the Detective agency, your pay per month would be equal to five power stones." After she spoke, Grey nodded his head slowly as if his salary was meager but enough.
But inwardly, he was happy. A salary of five power stones a month meant five thousand spirit coins. That is to say he had five points... That didn't sound as good as he wanted in his head, but didn't dally any further.
"First thing first, let's get you acquainted with the area! Our job as the Detective agency is to handle a murder cases of any sought, including anything concerning the secret order-" Grey had heard of this Secret Order before, they were responsible for the death and killing and masses of people.
The whole Continent was wary of them and kill on sight any member they meet. Because of the unorthodox way the Secret Order did things, it warranted the attention of the higher ups of various sects and academies.
"-if you see a Secret Order member, kill on sight! If you cannot kill him or them alone, call for backup"- she gestured to the Jade slip "-You can also take in wanted criminals and the sorts for some extra pay. That's what everyone does around here, whatever is found on them is yours. The academy won't take any of it from you. But if it's a group mission, you will have to share the rewards between people that partcipated." She said as she walked Grey off to the door. With the swing of her hand, her hair changed color to black and her face also changed to an ordinary look, so as not to arouse suspicion. She then took out a Detective hat and put it on his head. His hair was just too good looking.
"I almost forgot, here are some places that we have some activities of the Secret Order. Here are some places you shouldn't under any circumstances go to, and lastly here are some places that serve good food!" She slightly whispered that last part. With a short nod, Grey quickly remembered the information.
Seeing that he understood, she nodded in satisfaction and said. "Great, now let's get you acquainted with your immediate area of jurisdiction!"
With a gentle swing of her hand, the door was flung open. Grey looked on in quite a daze. Her appearance now was different from the purple haired delicate looking girl from before. Now she looked a little above average, but had a certain charm around her.
"Do you have any questions?" She asked when she saw him entering a dazed state. Grey nodded his head.
'I have a lot!' He said inwardly but he said "Only a few..." Instead. She looked at him before nodding once, a hint for him to speak on.
"What was the purpose of the whole tests?" Grey asked his first question. Captain took a glance at him and sighed before she replied. "The whole purpose of the tests was to determine the capabilities of new students. If you were observant enough you would notice that people who were eliminated were not people who were weak. Sky Mist doesn't actually care about your talent or comprehensive abilties, what they care about is your character. If you are weak willed, easy to bully and never take risks, how will you survive in such a tough environment. Although the rules prohibit direct killings, they will still be some ways where people will be killed in secret and the academy can't do anything about it!
"If you do not meet those standards then you can never survive here! Hehe, the only thing you would be useful for is to be bullied or used as cannon fodder." The Captain said with a smirk, she took out a lollipop and put it in her mouth. Grey was still holding the Apple in his hand and then decided to eat it.
"Hold your other questions for now, let's take a stroll and get you more familiar with this place." That Captain said. So for the next one hour, Grey and the Captain strolled the streets of Sky Mist academy. But Grey noticed something as he walked, most of the citizens would wear fearful expressions when they saw the badge on the side of his chest.
He then realized that the Captain wasn't wearing her badge and immediately took it off. After that, people no longer avoided him nor had weird expressions. But some ladies would take a second glance at him due to his peculiar Grey hair that couldn't be hidden under the Detective hat.
'I really have to cut my hair...' He voiced inwardly when he saw the stares he got from girls. The Captain had been quiet like she didn't notice anything wrong which made Grey cringe.
"Captain, do you think I can get an advance for this month's salary? I don't have anywhere to live at the moment." In shame, he bowed down his head.
'Just the rent alone is killing me! I wonder if I can get other jobs such as refining Pills and make some extra money?' He said inwardly.
"Huh, you want to get your money in advance? Well, I guess that's okay. But don't forget about the one thousand points you owe me!" She said casually.
"Wait Captain, who assigned me to the Detective agency department? And to your squad?" Grey asked when he suddenly realized the coincidences.
"You've finally realized it, huh. Well, obviously it was me! How else was I suppose to collect my one thousand points from you if you went to another department, or worse, another sequence?" She said and exaggeratedly threw her hands up in the air.
"So I am here because of the one thousand points? You must have some power to be able to influence my placement though!"
"Yes, of course! I value my money very much!" She did not answer the end statement, it was more or like she ignored it. But Grey didn't pester, as far as he got his advance and could find a place to stay, he was content.
As if reading his mind, "You don't have to rent an apartment you know, as the Vice Captain you have an office all to yourself. You can stay there instead! I really wouldn't suggest you living in a rented apartment, talk less of the protection, privacy and other matters are to be spoken of. You can always buy the magic treasures privileged to sequence three when you have enough spirit stones. You don't have to pay much rent for it and it's all yours." Captain said.
Grey interest was piqued. "What's the Magic treasure?"
"You ever heard of a Flying ship? Sky Mist sells them but for we sequence three cultivators, the price is reduced. Part of our privileges!" Captain said proudly.
"What is the price of the Magic Treasure?" He was thinking if buying it if it was cheap enough. Now that he thought about it, renting apartments wouldn't cut it for him. Not only would he be renting it daily, but he would also have to figure out protection for himself. Adding it with the daily tribute of the Sky Mist city, he would go broke before he knew it.
Captain gave him a sweet smile that made him shudder a bit. He suddenly felt a sense if foreboding. "It's not expensive, only one hundred spirit stones!" The moment she said that, Grey almost coughed up blood.
'One hundred spirit stones! But I only have five! How long would it take me before I can buy it? Let's not even talk about the day to day expenses I would do. I still need to buy ingredients to refine my poison, plus I haven't eaten since morning!'
Seeing his expression, the captain's expression turned even sweeter and said softly. "You can borrow some money for me. But remember that you will have to pay it back, in cash and some other ways, hehe."
Her sweet voice made him shudder repeatedly. His blood ran cold. "No thank you, I'm fine!" Grey said. The captain pouted before she shrugged and continued walking with Grey following with just one step behind. Some times she would want to stand side by side with him but he would always make sure he was a step behind.
At some point she got frustrated and couldn't hold it back. "Why are you doing that?"
"You're the Captain, and I'm the Vice Captain!" He gave a short and simple answer. The captain suddenly cleared her throat before saying.
"We have come to the end of the tour! I guess you can now navigate a small area belonging to sequence three, you officially start tomorrow so you can do whatever you want in the mean time. Tomorrow I'll clearly brief you on your responsibilities." She had already started to walk away, but after the count of three she turned back and face palmed.
"Ah, I've almost forgotten! Here is the advance you asked for-" she brought out a jade slip and fiddled with it for a few moments before putting it back. Grey felt the Jade slip in his possession vibrate within his clothes. When he brought it out, he saw five points had been added to his account.
He nodded curtly at the Captain. The monetary placement was very good. Sometimes you didn't even need to hold spirit stones or coins with you. But then his expression turned puzzled, he didn't give the captain his details so how did she sends him points.
"How did you send me points even though I didn't give you my details?" Grey asked with a confused look on his face.
The captain's cheeks turned a tinge of red as she came up with an excuse while stammering. "I-I'n your-r c-captain, so why wouldn't I k-know your details-s." Immediately after she said that, she turned and went away in a slight daze. Grey watched all of this with calmness, his confused expression eventually turned nonchalant and then detached. He felt suspicious of the Captain, but since she was his superior at the moment he couldn't do anything about it.
